Well, no wonder, after it nearly followed the dirt into the hole! I might have to make a pit stop after something like that. Didn't your Daddy teach you to "back up, then raise the blade" ??? Mine did, maybe that was why ... he never did tell me, he just said to do it that way. I always wondered if it had to do with the fact that he was most likely trained on cable dozers. Then again, he was trained in the Marine Corp, Engineer Battalion, where you did it their way, or, you did it their way. First tour involved some pretty gruesome work, the kind that has absolutely no "Glory" or recognition. Nobody asked him about that, and he never volunteered it, except to one person, and that person didn't tell me of it until Dad had been gone for over a decade. Sort of adds a different perspective to the name of "Greatest Generation," doesn't it? What they witnessed, endured, and after all that to come home and do as well as they did, and not speak about any of it.
JPaydirt for Chief Engineer on the new Star Trek series! He’s the only one I know with an antigravity D9G. He’ll have a switchblade warp core installed in the Enterprise ‘9G’ by the end of the second episode. The Borg will never be able to keep up. 😂
Good Day Jeff , You got me on this video . I thought for sure the big dozer was going into the hole .Some day down the road you will have to bring in some fill to top off . Take care .See ya .
It's been 40+ years since I have had the pleasure of pushing with a big dozer. Wednesdays and Saturdays were when I could get in some hours at the local landfill site. Buried everything back in those days. Soon they will be strip mining them for the good stuff that went over the edge. Gravel pit was were I got in loader time and a bit of crusher operations.
The radiator fan blades are reversible, they'll blow the heat from the engine towards the cab. Had an 8H with OROPS, with the fan blades turned, and some plywood sideboards, you could run in the middle of winter with a T-shirt and the stocking cap. And remember you're 8" from a 200 degree hydraulic tank
I noticed and some of your earlier videos that you wanted something to protect the concrete apron leading into your shop and inside your shop from the tracks of your bulldozers... why couldn’t you find some old or new conveyor belts that are a little wider than the tracks on the bulldozers you could lay them on the floor to drive on and would be able get your floor jacks and creepers over the top of them without too much trouble , also when you’re though with them you could roll them up and store them in a corner out of the way until the next time you need to use them ... just something to consider
@@Jpaydirt we use old conveyor belting too... Works great. We started with 10' peaces, then cut them down to 5' because it made them easier to drag out and put back. We also welded up a small cart with wheels to store them when not in use. Roll the whole stack to the door, throw one off each side, pull the cart 5 ' , repeat. Works great!
So what did we learn today? I have a pile of dirt about that size from building my shop, I can move it with my skid steer and TLB and take 2-3 weeks or I can rent a D9 and move it in about an hour and a half...... hmmmm. Thanks Jeff. :D
A D8 will move it quite quickly as well. I learned that lesson on a road job. I was running our D6D gathering up brush and Dad was digging a snake pit to bury it with the D9G. I worked all morning piling it next to the hole, and I pushed all the D6 will handle several time. I had quite a pile of brush when I was getting close, Then I saw the D9 come when I was cleaning up. I backed up to take another push, and when I went ahead, the pile was gone. In one push, the pile of brush that I worked all morning to pile up was gone with one push with the D9.
looks like you won the dispatcher look a like contest with that trophy turd, Jeff are hoot and a half and quiet the operator to boot keep up the good work and the video
You know everyone wants to see you fill it Kentucky style where you drop the blade at the top and ride it off the side of that mountain! I have seen guys come down banks steeper than your trench sides. If you can't get your blade up enough at the bottom it could make for an interesting video though!! How many scrapers does it take to pull a 9 out of a hole? lol
bcbloc02 I was installing cellular base station in South Western Virgina and Eastern Kentucky in the early 2000’s and some boys running equipment whose 💩-a-givers were definitely broke or at least were a seriously twisted as a boar hogs peepee. That said I am not sure who was crazier the Dozer operators or the Haul Truck operators both could be interesting to watch preferable from a distance.
I've seen a dozer and winch at the top of a mountain hooked to a dozer pushing down then the dozer at the top had to pull him back up to the top on every push that's how steep it was.
@@clydeacor1911 I have a buddy working a pipeline right now that is running a backhoe hanging from a cable over the hill because the backhoe can't climb it or keep from sliding down it. Check your rigging cuz its a rough ride to the bottom if she lets loose!!
It depends what you're doing with it, and depends on the quality of the fuel. We generally pulled scrapers with ours. On a road job we pulled a 463 scraper and it used about 450 litres per 10 hour day. on another job Dad was doing, it was so soft he had to pull a 621 scraper with it and he was dragging the push block at times and the D9G used 670 litres per 11 hour day. That was in the days before they added biofuel. Now, We find that the fuel is inconsistent. We used to run a D8H which holds about 520 L 11 hours on a tank of fuel and still have some left. Now, we better fuel in 9. Believe it or not, the D9G doesn't use much more, if not any more fuel than a powershift D8K. Dad had one at one time and is soft ground pulling an 80 scraper, he emptied the tank in 10 hours, and they hold 640 litres with good fuel.) Believe me, They are gaining nothing by adding biofuel. On a direct drive D8K which used consistently around 280 litres in a 10 hour day, I emptied it in 12 pulling the same scraper with the crappy B10 fuel in normal going. In short, B10 increases fuel consumption by over 35%. They aren't saving anything, are they?
As someone who does not operate heavy equipment, is there a specific reason for pushing at an angle to the hole, rather than pushing at 90 degrees to the hole?
Man that trench would’ve made a great bunker! Just drop a couple containers end to end and you’d be ready for the democRATS to find out what the British learned years ago! 😂😂😂
Well I hope you feel better. Sick in Winter is no fun. Best you stay in bed for awhile. Do you a world of good. Chicken soup and orange juice. No use working if you don't have to. Bad for the bones. Jeff I will send Shane's check soon. Had a bit of bad luck myself. Last Wednesday was payday for the month. Tripped and fell in the street, whole right side sore and bruised. Makes getting off the toilet a real challenge. I did promise Shane to send it. With this mishap it will be a little late. Tony.
This video had me thinking: cabs are wonderful things! Imagine doing this job on an Old Open platform D8 with cable blade and manual transmission.🥶🥶🥶 The old-timers would’ve got ‘er done, though (just not as fast!
jim white those open cabs would keep ya more than adequately warm in even extreme cold. Sitting next to a warm hydraulic tank and on top a hot torque convertor! I highly recommend spending time on cable/clutch machines, almost as much fun as hearing stories about em from the old man.
mikexcavator I’m talking about a D8 from late 30s early 40s. So, no warm hydraulic tank, no torque converter. Hand main clutch, manual long stick steering clutches, no power steering brakes, The control lever for the winch controlling the blade on the back of the tractor, so you had to reach around to grab it. You would get some heat coming back from the radiator, that is if somebody hadn’t reconfigured the fan to blow air forward through the radiator which you could do on those machines. I’m thinking you would stay warm just from all the physical effort, lol! But those are the machines that built the Alcan highway.
I’ve got seat time on a 2U D8, summertime only. That clutch brake was wore, had jerk the pcu to gear change without grinds. My dad was an operator, my grandfather was one as well.
If it's not to windy, they're not bad. I prefer open air to a cab to be honest with you. A manual transmission is optional on D8Hs and Ks. We have both with manual transmissions. However, if you want a cold ride, an open D3 is just the ride for you.
How many hours do you think you have in this little project? Being you own and operate the equipment yourself you can do things differently for your own job. If you were to do a job like this for a customer is this how you’d do it or would you approach it differently? For example loading haul trucks or more scraper etc
Good video, love watching the D9 work, it's a beast! Don't know why you had to go back to the house to 💩 should've brought a newspaper and jumped down in the pit, some archeologist will find it in a few thousand years and put it in a museum 😂😂😂
Some people do that. Sometimes they do it to get higher rates. We charged the same for both so it didn't matter. We had a D9G with H decals too, when we put a D9H canopy and surround on it. we have a D8H with K decals for the same reason, however, it will get H decals when we paint it, and we charge the same rate for the D8H and D8K. There's no difference in the work you can do, it depends more on the skill of the operator. There is very little difference in the last D9Gs and the first D9H, much like there's very little difference between the late D8H and the First D8Ks.

You keep taking dirt out after you pushed it in, you'll never finish this job
A few of those pushes must have been 20 yards or better
