lol! I bought the 77” lg oled just to take advantage of the HDMI 2.1. Watching movies on it is just a bonus.
Just so everyone knows, you DO NOT need 2.1 for PS5. I have the Alienware 3423DWF (HDMI 2.0) and it does 1440p 120hz full VRR support. Its amazing!
Also true with my samsung tv that only has hdmi 2.0 ports.
Right so it will work with any hdmi port righ? Also does it really make a difference with cod? Like the hdmi 2.1 and the other frames etc is it needed is what I’m asking for cod?
@Khalil Cruz it also depends on your tvs capabilities. For my Samsung tv, it only has hdmi 2.0 ports, but I have a game mode feature that enables freesync- therefore VRR. It drops the resolution from 4k to 1440p, with frames up to 120hz.
As for "does it make a difference on COD", I use it, and can argue that with my ps5 frame rate being in sync with my TV refresh rate - I have a better chance of being on target more consistently with no "screen tare". Hope that helps, it doesn't make you a better player, just gives me a slight edge of getting the first shot on target sooner (we're talking hundreds of millisecond here). The biggest advantage in games like cod is getting a really good headset that you can tune to hear enemy footsteps clearer/louder.
@@LostSector609 gotcha thanks. Do you think while I save up for a good monitor ..for now I should get a cheap one just so I can play ?
@@khalilcruz5816 are you using a ps5 or computer to play?
GUYS THIS IS OUTDATED INFORMATION. YOU DO NOT NEED HDMI 2.1 FOR 1440p VRR SUPPORT YOU CAN GET 120fps IN 1440p WITH HDMI 2.0
how
What monitor do you recommend ?
NO YOU STILL NEED IT SADLY
But without Vrr so that can make screen tearing? Am I right?
@@fareshejjaji6584 vrr is essentially gsync and vsync on monitors. You need 2.1 for vrr but not for 120hz mode in games. So my initial comment is half correct. You can play 1440p 120hz with 2.0 but it won’t have vrr. In competitive games you don’t really need vrr because it can lower frames ironically enough. While it may seem “smooth” at times, it can become choppy. At least in PC it’s like that.
Nah man I ain’t buying a $700 monitor 😭
fr man i think that’s enough internet for today this out my tax bracket
I highly recommend getting the Samsung Odyssey G6, it’s a 1440p 240Hz monitor that’s way cheaper than most 4K monitors and one of its biggest upsides compared to other 1440p monitors is that this one has HDMI 2.1 so it supports 1440p VRR on the PS5

@@SaifSKH but 4k is better and nobody needs 240hz lol
@@WEEZYWEEEE 4K is useless on the ps5 there is no games with it 1440P is a better option with 120 hertz you don’t need more
I can’t believe HDMI is still a thing. TVs and consoles need to quit only having HDMI and start working with DisplayPort. They’re holding back the entire industry.
Fr. DisplayPort has such a massively higher bandwidth compared to HDMI to the point it's not even funny😭. I'm gonna make this detailed just to prove my point.
Max refresh rates with HDMI 2.1 without dsc.
1080p: 240hz
1440p: 240hz
4k: 144hz (yes 144 not 120)
Max refresh rates with DisplayPort 2.1 without dsc.
1080p: 900hz
1440p: 500hz
4k: 240hz
That's pretty much the difference
Me how spent all my money on a ps5 and is using and 1080p 60hz monitor 😂
Casually suggesting a monitor that’s more expensive than the console 😂😢. I can’t wait for these newer 120hz 4K hdmi 2.1 monitors to be affordable to the masses of the console market
I think that you will have to wait a long time for the cheaper 2.1, because so far they do not produce that much. Today, companies produce the most 1440, which is why they are getting cheaper
I got an HDMI 1.4 for 120 bucks🤣
4K monitors are not needed for now. Barely any games allow you to play 4k at 120fps.
@@maxwellclips Yeah, it's just 1440p at 120 Hz.
700 bucks is pretty affordable tbh
That moment when a TV have a 4k 60hz panel and have HDMI 2.1 and can do VRR and ALLM 💀💀💀
No. As only Spider-Man games, ratchet and clank, Uncharted 4 and TLOU remake use 120hz. TBH some games have downgraded visual quality with 120z. 60hz is more than enough for story based games.
Just get the LG 27GL83A-B for only 400 bucks and It's an absolute steal
The days of playing on television is over The rise of the monitor😂
Sony needs to fix that because most monitors have VRR. I just don’t know why we need HDMI 2.1. But it’s just most monitors are HMI 2.0
It's 28" and the same price of the m32u...
Another win for the PC race
I just bought an msi monitor hdmi 2.1. Itll be here today cant wait
How is that monitor?
Time to shave the head brother. I mean that in the most sincere way.
You just Need HDMI 2.1 for 4K 120hz but for 1080p/1440p 120hz you Need just a HDMI 2.0 or a HDMI 1.4
1.4😮
@@MLL65Well, 1,4 is enough for 1080p 120hz lol
Just so I understand even though i have the freesync premium on my samsung odyssey because its not hdmi 2.1 it does not make a difference whether i turn it on or off on my monitor...is that right?
For the lack of confusion, hdmi 2.1 is recommended for 4k 120hz max on ps 5 and capable monitors or oled tvs and is backward compatible to lower refresh rates 4k 60, Native 1440p 120/60m, 1080p/i , 720. The new sony update support has unlock native 1440p 120 hz vrr specifically to gaming monitors.
@@NlmbCircle The vrr ps5 feature is mostly for those tvs that support 4k and 1080p 60/120hz. My sony tv has that feature where i toggle 4k 60/120 automatic for adventure/story modes or games while competitive fps shooters to just 1080p as to compensate lag input but both resolutions are hdr and vrr enabled. 1440p requires hdmi 2.0, 4k is 2.1 but backward compatible, while 1080 is hdmi 1.4. The hdmi port 2.1 is also backward compatible and make sure to select the VRR mode on the tv itself. Gaming monitors have a different vrr equivalent which is freesync or gsync but the newest 4k i think has vrr capable or compatible with ps5.

The PS5 needs a HDMI Forum VRR capable monitor. The Alienware AW2724DM and Dell G2724D have this and work with PS5's VRR despite being only HDMI 2.0
Can I not just buy a normal monitor and put a hdmi 2.1 cable in which will cost £15 for the cable and 200£ for a monitor

Also, some of the users mentioned it also depends on what size of the display that you are using, 1080p, 1440p or 4k. Usually FPS for 4k is not that stable, meanwhile the rest will remain at 120 FPS for most of the games. So it doesn't matter if VRR is not supported in this case.
