Fossil Hunting The Jurassic🌊Coast, U.K.

- I hope you find some fossils along the Jurassic Coast-at low tide. Sometimes fossil hunting turns out to be treasure hunting, especially when you are trying a bit of sieving. The Jurassic Coast really does have some stunning fossils. I recommend wearing safety glasses and sturdy rubber gloves when hammering the right rocks. Remember the cliffs are dangerous and liable to fall suddenly and without warning. Keep away from the dangerous cliffs. The best fossils are washed out onto the beaches at low tide, by the sea's actions. Look out for the slippery seaweed on the ledges and rocks. I offer fossil walks along the Jurassic Coast on the following website, so feel free to take a look at the website I made, with our online fossil walks ------www.lymeregisfossilwalks.com There is a fossil collecting code of conduct in place along the Jurassic Coast !

I can't believe I found this fossil hunting surprise!🤔(Part 1)- This is a longer video that I made on UA-cam, about an awesome ammonite that I found !
Thank you for sharing a lovely video. 😊👍
Thank you too for watching and your comments
Thank you for the lovely video! Looking forward to the next video!
Thank you too! More to come
Love the jurassic coast in winter! Lovely finds!
Thank you 🙏 so do I, the Winter ❄️ time 🕰️ is a great fun 🤩 period to fossil hunt in at low tide
Some great splits Brandon, always nice to find bone .We are in Southampton this week looking for shark teeth ,never done that before 👍
Good luck!I hope you find some fossils
Nice long bit of rib there🎉
Thank you 🙏 yes it was a good sized rib
They are garden potting sieves that I’m using to find the fossils in
how can you be sure that the rib bone wasnt just from somebodys barbecue or a dead sheep🤔
They are heavy with mineral content, like iron pyrite. The blood vessels are often preserved with calcite or iron pyrite in. You do get hollow bones 🦴 on the beach but they are very light and there is hollow honey comb effect within the bone
That was entertaining
Thanks 🙏 very much for watching 🌊🪨🌀
Thanks so much for posting these outstanding videos! Just curious, do you identify the different types of ammonites mostly based on the shape/size of the ammonite itself or also based on the type of rock it is in and the way it is preserved?
Thank you for your comment, 🙏 all the ways you have mentioned are good ways for me to identify ammonites - along the Jurassic Coast! The main thing I got to learn when I was young is to handle other fossil collections of ammonites and learn from them. I was lucky enough to be able to see and add to the Foster collection of ammonites- many times. That was a great learning resource at the time - locally. But now it’s in the Cardiff Museum- in Wales 🏴.
I see, thanks for the reply. I especially enjoy seeing your Euagassiceras ammonites. Congrats on the lovely finds, and keep up the great work!
Those are quite chunky those particular species of ammonite! They are fun to find and prepare !
Are you a palaeontologist or do this as a hobby
It was my hobby, my dad was an international geologist so I learnt a lot from him before my “ A “ levels and further courses
