- Hello everyone, my name is Ilya, and I'm from Russia. Few people know, but I have an interesting hobby - paleontology. In this video I want to show you the search for fossils on the Volga River. In the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, there was a huge sea here, inhabited by ammonites, belemnites, as well as terrible marine dinosaurs...
Are the ammonites so common that you can just hack away willy-nilly with a heavyhanded chiselling technique? Don't misunderstand me, please, I love how much effort you put into the filming and editing, and the information you have provided here is very good. I just think more care should be taken not to break off chunks around the edges when digging them out.
I was thinking the same thing.
why take so many , you only need one for a collection
@@bobgreenthumb8066 They have made a small museum out of the collection, it is shown in one of their videos , but I do agree more care should be taken when removing specimens
A big problem with the collectors is that they remove the fossils from their locations. When actual palaeontologists or geologists go for field studies they don’t find them. Collection is good for hobby but it is of no use if the fossils aren’t identified correctly or just picked up without noting their coordinates and geological formations.
you need to be more careful in trying to extract fossils… that way you would not destroy them…. when there gone there gone for good!
Good comment and very nice body trinitytennant838 !!!
So sad that you just came across other peoples finds and absolutely destroyed them instead of leaving for others to see and enjoy. Very selfish
I've seen a lot of horrible attempts at prepping a fossil and this guy just absolutely destroys them. It's genuinely painful to watch...
Oh f...k! Just for not using the chisel you already had, at 2:50, you cracked it! 🙄😒😠
You are getting to close to the ammonites with your chisel. Your chisel looks like a wood chisel. Try to find a chisel made for rocks. Like a landscapers chisel.
Sure wish you'd have left them alone
Very interesting Ilya, thank you for the English subtitles. Nice collection you found.
Don't destroy the fossiles!!!!! Don't be stupid, and treat better fossiles.
Oh, not again... 3:36 and another one you broke for not using the chisel! This should be called "The ammonite breaking channel". 😭
Destroyer ! Why you are destroy amonites? To sell someone. So sad 😢.
It is rather funny, using a wood chisel to extract a fossil from rock.
Faut t’apprendre à dégager les fossiles !!!! Arrête c’est une véritable tuerie 😢
Cut properly in happy mood 🙂
I could not watch this video to the end. These fossils survived millions years and now they are destroyed by this barbarian
So selfish. You think you're the first person to find that big ammonite fossil? Thanks for ruining the scenery for everyone else. Your "extraction" techniques are laughable.
Amazing place. You would do alot better with a 4lb lump hammer and concrete chisel.
Gonzalez Robert Jackson Cynthia Thompson Barbara
There are many bones that turned to stone.
Amazing!
It is hard to extract the fossil from the stone.
Thanks a lot.
Geweest, you are treating those beautiful fossils like a elephant in a fine china store🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
I had one like the one on that big slab behind my house, my older friend saw it w her man and then it was gone! It was in a hard spot to remove and was very heavy so it’s weird! I always wonder if they had something to do w it being removed. I used to sit on it by the creek and smoke
Extraordinarily careless, please stop or learn how to do this properly!
The large Ammonite and vertebrates seems like they should be in a Museum. Very interesting and thank you for sharing.🍺
Please get safety glasses. Eyes are for safe keeping. Incredible fossils there! 👍👍
Hellow ..I have small dinasour skull 2 inch are you interseted?? or can you help me please
You should talk more. Got bored.
You have an absolutely amazing spot! The belemnites have such an interesting color spectrum
my favorite is the piece of wood in e beginning, with the beetle markings it makes quite an unique snapshot of history, really cool!
Amazing, wow how exciting finding great fossils
"Extract"
Well, I laughed.
Isn't it strange that those once were alive creatures and now they're just stones!
Oldest sayin " even rocks have a soul" makes sense seeing this...
Wow Ilya! That is so cool. Where is this place with all the fossils??
The city of Ulyanovsk
A lot of huge ammonites, huge belemnites, calcite nodules, clear gypsum in one location? Wow...
Minha ignorância só me diz. É um monte de caracol.
Destruye todo!!!....
Wow, You find some Amazing Fossiles, Great! Congratulations 👌👌👍👌👌
Great finds.
Must be fixed
Should have brought a bigger backpack
is it normal to destroy everything like this?
only in certain places its allowed to hunt for fossils like this.
in other areas its strictly forbidden, in others you can look and dig for but not take fossils because they will be confiscated by the government.
it all depends where you live and where you want to dig for fossils.
you should always check beforehand if its legal to hunt
Schaue immer aus Deutschland zu, wollte mal sagen das ich es Toll finde Danke.
I wish they're all still alive
Amazing fossil hunting spot.
We have similar preservation here in Texas of the ammonites, only we don’t find Belemnites. Ichthyosaur bones are also very rare.
We have lots of ammonites though.
Thank you for the English subtitles.
If there’s small versions of the thing in the thumbnail I probably have one
AMAZING DISCOVERY...!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING....!!!!! GREETINGS FROM COMODORO CHUBUT PATAGONIA
I wonder what they would taste like!
well they are molluscs that are closely related to squids and octopuses.
so they would probably taste like them as well
Very, very interesting!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Wow starting off with a massive Parkinsonia parkinsoni or Titanites giganteus ammonite print! Then a large piece of petrified wood with woodworms! Then a MASSIVE (I believe as I can’t see any groves from this footage) Acrocoelites belemnite. Then another maybe Cylindroteuthis. Another MASSIVE Parkinsonia! That annelid worm may be the best! I’m not familiar with the species though.
Very interesting
Very cool stuff
Awesome 👍🍻
What great finds 😊👍🌷
Nice🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
In my country, taking fossils is illegal... what a marvelous place
fantastic finds Ilya, I think you need a bigger hammer and stronger chisel, where is this?
Thats just so cool.
Молодец, Илья! Как ловко...
amazing job😁😁
What a place for fossils!
Awesome!!! 👍🤗
The best thing in life is being blessed and surprised by how much a little hard work, patience and faith that good things will happen. I collect freshwater clams, not even fossils, and the coolest day was when I went from finding 1 inch shells to inch live specimens
Extra 👌💯
Where are you located, there are so many belimites on the shore.... Awesome
Amazing, can´t believe that this is a river...volga looks like the ocean!!! Greetings from Austria
Ilya, Thank you for sharing your adventure.
A treasure trove of fossils, very satisfying findings 👍😎😎
Wonderful fossil hotspot. The huge ammonite is great.
Great stuff keep doing your stuff 👍
I must go to this place, with my kids
This is an amazing location! Where is it?

Pretty cool and a nice collection!
what a awesome find that is a great area
Russia is cool as fuck
I like fossils
i love Ammonite's 🤩
Amazing!
Amazing
Very Great
🌺🌺💐👍
It's awful watching you break these fossils. You use the wrong tools to get them out and start hammering way to close. But I guess if there are so many there you can destroy what you like. smh
Here in Texas, our Ammonites are all in Limestone
Has anyone found the thing in the thumbnail but smaller because I have
I have a shell that’s shaped like the thing in the thumbnail idk if it’s a shell anymore
You don't talk much do you?
I think I have a mini ammonite or maybe it’s just a small shell
it's Very High price in Indian marcket...
It's Our devotional stone for Lord Vishnu.
This fossils name in India is Shaligram..
