- GRUESOME! My beloved fishing boat got destroyed and flattened! The little fishing machine served me well but its life came to an abrupt end after a flounder (fluke) fishing trip with my daughter. I have a surprise announcement for my followers at the end of this video!

Hey man you're a legend. This boat should of been in a Museum somewhere on Long Island. You're Impact on the fishing community is huge and alot of knowledge was spread on the deck of that boat.
I'd love to see a John Skinner designed/endorsed boat model come out from a boat manufacturer, built to your specs and outfitted the way you like it. I'd buy one!
it would sell.
My 4 year old grandson loves this video-Boats, fishing, heavy equipment, and destruction! You’re getting lots of views.
Ha! Awesome Jack.
I was sad to see it go but you did the right thing! Watched a lot of fish hauled over the sides of that boat!
This brings a tear to my eye. I'm retiring my 1967 this winter. I keep pushing her to her limits. I made it almost 40 miles off AC on Sat. Since this weekend doesn't look so hot I'm going to start sanding the hull of my new 17 1968. At least it's newer 😂. Should have taken her out and pulled the plug. The John Skinner Reef 😂
She served you and we, your subscribers well John. John Halkias is a really nice guy, maybe he’ll lend you his sea vee. Better yet I think John and Sweeney still have Doc’s keys. You can take his boat while he fixing someone’s gums. He’s good like that.
All good things must come to an end. Was sort of expecting to hear bag pipes playing.
Dark Matter John Skinner series grapple dozer....now available at J&H Tackle for your boat crushing needs.
My dad bought a used 16’ Starcraft fiberglass boat with a 65hp Evinrude in 1970. I loved that boat and we made great family memories. Thanks for all great fishing memories from your boat
John Skinner. You should have auctioned off the seat to your followers. I would love to have gotten it with your signature on it. It would have went in my Boston whaler
That sound you made when the claw took its first bite... RIP to a leaky legend.
Man the amount of memories you must've had on that things has gotta be amazing.
I have the same boat (1969). Set up similarly, super light and super fun! Its always an interesting ride with these older craft, a few leaky rivets but for her age, nothing less to expect. My next trip out will be dedicated to you!
The “back breaker” is still going strong…..such a deal for you!!
Way to go Dr. Katie Skinner!!
It hurt a little seeing your old boat being “decommissioned,” but I know there’s something special on the horizon!
By the length of time you videoed the crushing I could see how much she’ll be missed. I’m sorry for your loss. She gave you all she had.
That boat will forever go down as legendary
I’m glad to see you out of the leaker.
She was a nice boat, but she was ready for permanent decommissioning.
it was about time
I loved the fishability of that boat . I still run an 88 Ranger Fisherman with same qualities. YOU of all flounder pounders , deserve a boat worthy of your talents .
someone once said, all good times and all bad times must come to an end - forgive the paraphrase, but we should be glad to see a new beginning..... good luck!
I'm glad you weren't too sentimental about that tub. It served you well but in the end, it's just an inanimate object. You chose safety.
Strangely satisfying video. A new boat will serve you well.
Lots of history. Thanks for sharing!
So sorry for your loss. She served u well
The end of an era! But the beginning of an era too. Cheers to a new chapter for you!
It's cool you get to get maybe that fishing seado ....Fish on
I can't wait to see what the new vessel is going to be!!! You definitely had some great memories on that old boat
It belongs in a museum!
That boat should be in a museum!
The end of an era ! But I’m sure there is a whole new era now to begin! Can’t wait !!
this is so emotional
John, I love your videos and I’d love to see them keep coming, you’re welcome to use my 2nd boat for the rest of the season at no charge, it is a 2017 Bayliner Center console with 115 Hp outboard , Hummingbird Fish finder and a 2022 Minnkota RT Ulterra trolling motor.
it is in New Rochelle
Let me know. John
Wow, the end of an era. Excited to see your next boat
She served you very well. Best of luck with your new boat and book.
May she rest in peace. I loved that boat of yours
the seat was good
Oh that hurt to watch John...looking forward to seeing your next adventure !!
Oh boy that boat was a fighter, At least now you won’t have to say, “Man I need a boat sponsor” anymore. Looking forward to seeing the new boat!
spilled gulp juice ate your hull. 😁🤣
Can't wait to see your next whip!
It was an honor to be on board and to be able to say she got me my pb. Her destruction was a bit painful to watch. Excited for the new ride!
And your drone vid was perfect for the video lead-in! Seabass are chewing. Had the "new" boat out for the first time today.
Looking forward to the new book!
Awesome video john skinner if that boat could talk lol excited to see what’s to come !!
🙌watching your being crushed must have been difficult. Looking forward to the new book.
its like loosing a dear friend ,but its time was past due one bounce on a wave may have tanken out the bottom enough to sink you .Cant wait to see your new ride !
Btw, love your channel, especially the flounder fishing.
Oh the love hate relationship of a boat owner on film
There is no fish in the world like the fish you catch with your daughter, John. But it looks like you know that v well. Congrats on getting her out with you.
Sad to see her go but that was the right thing to do.
Maybe book #6
The Star Craft lives on
Yes could be dangerous for someone to fix up ! Excellent idea John
That's what I thought. When I saw those light pinholes, that was it.
Sorry to see your boat demolished, it was kind of sad in a way. I bought a similar boat in the mid 80's and ran it over 10yrs before replacing it. My kid's were young then and we have many great memories of fishing on it as I am sure you have you have with yours. Good luck with the new boat whatever it might be.
I love videos like this.
I'm so "old" I remember the boat before this one. lol. I wish you well with the "new" one.
no it kinda hurt a little seen the fishing machine got down the way but hey I bet the new one is better can't wait for the book to come out
Sad to see her go!
All the gulp that was used on that boat, Berkley should finance the next one!😁
Cool video dude, but as well as enjpying the crushing scene (I bet the driver of that mechanical beast enjoys his job! LOL) - sorry but the boat needed to be scrapped, I also liked that sea-robin - over here in the UK we call them "gurnard" and by UK standeards that was a nice one, I'd have been pleased to have caught that! I always enjoy your videos, hope you can get a new boat sorted ok. Take it easy dude!
The boat is dead. Long live the Boat!
End of an era!
She was a good boat!
I’ve been waiting for this for a while, just glad you never had to swim to shore. Any how, can’t wait to see the new vessel.(hope you join the Parker crew)😜just saying.
so sad i shed a tear for it. it truly was worn out.
48 years old. It was time.
Hey John , that was painfully to watch, my 2001 original owner ram conversion van went to the crusher, unibody frame totally rusted out. Nursing my 1985 sea nymph, always garage kept which I think has saved the transom, leaking so far under control at 77 hoping for a few more years out of the old girl and myself. Glad you were there to send her off. Tight lines......walt
Class act. Lots of people would have tried to sell it.
I lost all faith in the structural integrity. It had to be destroyed.
No skinner u just broke my heart
She was a good girl, always keeping you on the fish...we will miss her.
You did right the thing by not offering her for sale. Hope your next brings as much enjoyment to you and your subs.
She had a good run John. Caught more nice fish than most other boats out there. Steiger craft next?
I hope to buy a boat around that size. When it finally fails, I'll sink with it like a true captain!! 😉😎 Sad to see it go. I know you enjoy the hell out of it. RIP 🙏
Thought I saw some Gulp
Juice dripping from the crushed hull.. time for a new toy.
Man.... That sucks!! What a boat it has been though! I have a tracker deep v 16 in NC if you looking for something similar to what you had!
John, but I learned to jig bucktails watching you via Salt Strong couse on that boat. Dang I am going to miss that boat! But it will live again maybe recycled as a PBR can! All in all, I think you did the right thing and I am sure there is a new boat out there for you, sir. All the best and tight lines!
PS - I think they got all of it. Flat as a pancake.
Time for the Skinner edition metal shark!
Bobinsuffolk says; you could have donated it to the Sayville Maritime Museum as an example of a true fish slaying machine.
Seriously, you should have autographed the captains chair and raffled it off.
John...In my over 40 years as a marine surveyor I learned one of the major causes of hull failure in trailered boats was rollers instead of bunks. When a boat is bouncing on the trailer rollers going down the road the point loading of a very small roller surface area supporting the weight of the boat is almost an infinite amount of force on a very small area. Almost 100% of the delaminated hulls and foam core separation I surveyed the boat was carried on a trailer with rollers. Since the boat is pulled to almost the identical spot after every trip the constant pounding eventually destroys the fiberglass laminate structure, water enters, and the hull ultimately fails. The same would be true to a lesser extent on aluminum because aluminum is not a brittle as FRP. But over time it will fatigue fail and this leads to accelerated corrosion. If you get a new boat and are going to trailer it, get bunks!
Great information.
Rollers make loading easy; so maybe something like a lever to drop the rollers out once loaded?
That felt very satisfying for some odd reason... lol
I remember one episode when your bilge stop working and you were bailing with anything you could find. Sad! That boat is legend! Let me know if you need any emotional support.
At least you still have your Jeep XJ? Another classic machine. Best beach rig ever. Mine never let me down.
Nope. Got rid of it years ago.
Hate to see her go. Should of been placed at the fishermans hall of fame! The millions who've learned so much from those hundreds of trips captained by the legendary John Skinner. 🏆
Best of luck with the new vessel.
Hopefully we will get more shore fishing videos
I've often wondered about your boat, the balance between updating to something newer and the desire to keep the familiar. I guess Mother Nature made the choice for you. Looking forward to your next lady and the process of getting her in shape. Wishing you the best always.
"new" one hit the water today. I'll feature it next video.
That boat was a beauty lol
No it’s a legend put it on your wall!
I finally took my wallet out and have purchased an Old Town Auto Pilot, was curious about a recommendation for a kayak net, seems to be many to consider but was curious about the practical size and handle length. Looking forward to seeing the launch of the new boat and before long Florida video's.
Enjoy the new kayak!
That was sad to watch, but the condition of the hull was really bad. I'm sure the new boat will be a lot nicer, but still deprived of memories :-)
End of an ERA. Just won’t be the same in a shinny new one.
“Come on man”. You just needed some flex seal!!!!!
Wanted:
Good Woman that can cook, clean, sew and clean fish.
Must have boat and motor!
Please send picture of boat and motor. 😂
Starcrafts are tanks. I only use mine in freshwater now. 2014 Fishmaster 196. Great Lakes Walleyes,Salmon,Steelhead killing machine.
4054 has served it's purpose good bye dear friend
That boat looked sketchy as hell from the first video I watched several years ago. I was concerned something bad might happen every time you went out in that boat. I hate to see it go, but I'm glad to see it go at the same time. Maybe you can get something safer.
I hope to see a nice and new 19' steiger craft cc in your next video...
Gonna miss seeing that boat. I think you should get something a bit bigger so you can do big fluke trips with friends and family!
That boat probably produced more fish than a long liner. RIP to that trusty little boat.
Galvanic corrosion … I’m sure if that foam was wet alittle bit it didn’t help any … although looked pretty dry for its age … either way a bad ground alittle water and some current … and u got a hole … problem with aluminum in salt water … need good zincs regularly and tight connections on everything to avoid it … probly been slowly flaking and corroding away for years if not decades … I’m sorry for your loss
That should buff right out, no problem. :)
I sold my 12ft Starcraft V hull to Gershow recycling in 1993 for $26
You sure got your use out of her !!
Can't imagine how many nice fish came over that rail
I had a deep fisherman starcraft with a 40 hp tiller . It was a heavy deep boat
You mean it had a big draft? Drew a lot of water? Not for the flats?
@@tolpacourt I fish and hunt the delaware river near Port Penn
The river /Bay can be nasty , a deep V is nice !
