I never realized how soft spoken he was
@The RightStuff WOW, did he?
The RightStuff yea if you were a slaver or owner a plantation. The ppl who fled and were put in jail were ppl who refused to let go of land or slaves from the Batista regime
That's the way he dupe America and the world.......I hope he is in hell now !!!
He wasn’t soft spoken at all, just watch any of his speeches in Spanish. The reason he sounds soft spoken in this interview is because his voice is so hoarse because he had just given a several hour speech right before the interview decrying all of his enemies and he had almost no energy left.

It will always be hard for people in the Western world to form a clear opinion about Castro. The propaganda from western sources made him out to be worse than he was, whereas Castro's own propaganda made him out to be better than he was. As is often the case, the truth probably lies in the middle somewhere.
@@BradsPitt Communism doesn't work and I oppose it. Castro wasn't great, but it's hard to figure out exactly what individuals like him were actually like. The US likes to take things that already have problems and then make up a bunch of hyperbolic nonsense to add onto the problems. The war on drugs is a good example of this. Trying to get a clear picture of someone considered an enemy of the US is like trying to get a clear understanding of marijuana by watching Reefer Madness.
@@Polyfusia he was a dictator that stayed in power for over 50 years by force, without allowing the people of Cuba to have a choice in leadership, who banned religion for decades, threw homesexuals in force labor camps, eliminated freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, freedom to travel among other rights. What is the confusion?
@@DavidMars Actually Castro was more progressive towards homosexuals in the later half of his time in power. It was because of Castro that same sex marriage was eventually legalized. As for staying in power by force, that is not exactly true as he was very popular in Cuba as a whole, perfect proof of this is when the United States tried to overthrow him during the Bay of Pigs, they expected support from the population which did not occur. If Castro was really so horrible, its interesting the people rallied to him in that moment and still today they honor is memory.
@@Giuseppe-Verdi-Official For 64 years people have drowned in the Straits of Florida escaping Castro's dictatorship on inner tubes. For 64 years families have been torn apart because the government has restricted who can leave the island. For 64 years opposing political parties have been denied the right to seek office. For 64 years freedom of speech has been prohibited by the government. For 64 years citizens have been imprisoned when they have expressed opposition to government policies. For 64 years Cubans have been denied freedom of the press and freedom of assembly. From 1959 to 1992, religion was outlawed in Cuba. For decades, Cuban baseball players and boxers have been denied the right to make money overseas and return home. Once they left they were banned. Every single block in Cuba has a home dedicated to the Committee for Defense of the Revolution (CDR). The sole purpose of the CDR is to report citizens that do not toe the Communist Party line and this will cost those people their jobs (since the Government controls all jobs). You obviously are not Cuban nor do you have a loved one that was impacted by these atrocious policies.
@@DavidMars You let children have the choice what to eat every day they will probably choose candy, sometimes such freedoms are destructive in uneducated and immature hands. These people who fled may have been morally corrupted according to the ideals of the Cuban leadership under Castro's reign. In a household you will find that the parents make the decisions (usually for what they think is best for the children) but for Cuba it was for the people and the country as a whole. When does a religion become a dangerous cult that penetrates the minds of these adult children? Also the qualities of the religion are to be questioned. We are seeing the Buddhists in countries such as Myanmar resort to violence in order to fight back the Islamic religion (A toxic cult IMO) from infiltrating the country.

Castro, unlike other Communist leaders such Lenin or Mao, became converted to the ideology AFTER he took power while the others were Communists before sezing power.
In fact the transition years (1959-1962) demonstrated how ideologically ambiguous the Revolution was. Khrushchev said it best to reporters in NY in 1960: "Fidel is not a Communist, but will be one in two years thanks to American Pressure". In 1962, that prophecy becomes true.

Italian and Portuguese is even easier for hispanics because those languages are very very very similar.

My grandfather made his living with a small family plot that he and his kids farmed to sell at markets. My other grandfather had a tiny grocery store, most of his sales were paid with an IOU from local small farmers until their crops came in and they came back to the store to settle their bills months later with not one penny of interest ever charged to them by my grandfather. Both that tiny family farm plot and tiny grocery store were stolen by the communist and my family was left with no means to earn a living. As for slavery, that ended in 1880 and formerly abolished by decree in 1886. Unless you are referring to the fact that we are all slaves to this leftist totalitarian regime that has been choking us and our economy to death for over 6 decades.
Most of those small family farms that use to be the lifeblood of the Cuban economy producing food for the population and some surplus for exports, have been sitting there for decades growing nothing but thorny weeds. Actually there are some Latin American countries who have a better healthcare rating than Cuba. Costa Rica is ranked above the U.S (36th), Chile (33rd) and Colombia (22nd). But this is beside the point. Cuba can flaunt its healthcare accomplishments and education all it wants, but it doesn't take away from the fact that Cuba is a dictatorship, where individual human rights are not respected, with the highest number of political prisoners in the Western Hemisphere.

And there is also changing from within; there is Reformation instead of Revolution, changing from the outside by force
To reform the system, it takes patience, thinking, and work; it takes freedom of speech, love, and tolerance. On the other hand, Revolution is when you have lost patience, you see no hope of change, and have resorted to the use of force in order to make that change
I would think the most effective tool is not the sword, but spreading truth, educating others.
like half the people here, yes, i must admit i do very much enjoy playing as Fidel Castro on Black Ops. but that's not what is being discussed here. if you Americans bothered to watch a few films ( specifically Che: A Revolutionary Life) and read a few books (specifically Guerilla Warfare by Che Guevara) you might understand that the oppressive Batista regime was the dictatorship destroying lives and bowing down to America, not La Revolucion. America is not the whole world, Americans must know.
Again, Socialism can be made compatible with Democracy.
A Socialist Democracy is a "FAIR" MARKET instead of a FREE MARKET. And with any freedom you need laws and regulations in order to "keep" that freedom. But this is not possible under Capitalism unless you heavily tax the rich, and that's never going to happen. A free market must be fair! And that is where a Socialist Democracy comes in

Yes... roughly it does; however, Communism is more geared towards oppresives measures in order to enforce its laws, because in every human being there is an incentive to want to succeed.
On the other hand, Socialism can work with Capitalism and privately owned businesses, if -

2. All raw goods and natural resources, such as electricity, water...
