Fidel Castro was not a communist by that time. The US policy towards Cuba made him a Communist. The US refused to refine Cuban sugar cane and Fidel adopted the measure of nationalizing US sugar mills. From there the bad relations began. Seeing that the US was waging an economic war on his government, Fidel Castro allied himself with the former USSR and changed the road map the revolution. He always admired the possitive things of the USA.

Oh but he was! But, if he admitted it then, he would have never gained power, and he would most likely be assassinated by the US ( Which they tried on multiple occasions when Castro admitted he was a communist) He preferred to secure his position with help from the US first (the US also said that they would help him get rid of all the communists in his government) and then reveal that he is in fact, a communist.

Traducciones EGP, No, sir, it's not like that!!!! That is what the scoundrel Fidel Castro "sold" to the whole world!!
First, Fidel Castro brazenly STOLEN any and all INDIVIDUAL property of US citizens living in Cuba; as also, he stole the properties of other citizens such as Chinese, Spanish, etc, etc.
But, WORSE still... He robbed Cuban citizens!!!!!!! Fidel appropriated even the simple shoe shine stands, the newsstands, each small and humble store... etc, etc.
Then, the US government demanded that Fidel pay US citizens for the usurped properties.
Fidel did NOT do it, and the US refused to buy the sugar from him and, at the same time, decided that Cuba will have to pay in cash if it wants to trade with any US company, wherever it is located; that is, there will be no bank loans for Cuba. In addition, the Cuban money that was in American banks cannot be touched by the Cuban government, as long as there is communism on the island (this is the Embargo).
Second, although it is true that Fidel deceived the Cuban people and the world, denying that he was a communist; the testimonies of his former colleagues from the Sierra Maestra corroborate that Fidel was a liar and a hypocrite, who knew very well that if he denied
being a communist, would be supported by the people and by the great fortunes of the country (as it happened).
Fidel Castro has been the destruction of Cuba, a country that before 59, was VERY prosperous!!!!!

Okay. Are people static where things never change? Cubans looked at conditions of people and they including Fidel decided communism was best for them. Or should they go back to capitalism where they lived under Batista regime to be dominated militarily and economically by the US? US just lost it's plantation and has been sore since.

The organized crime families were also angry. The likes of Santo Trafficante (Florida mob) tried to negotiate with the regime. Instead, he was thrown into jail . All their shady casinos and luxury hotels were confiscated by the Castro regime. Watch GODFATHER 2 . Some of the story is told there. I like your comment. The Washington Senators signed up Camilo Pasqual & Pedro Ramos as starting pitchers. As far as I know neither of them ever got involved in politics. Castro was a different breed of politician. He was involved in the 1948 disturbances in Bogota. I remember seeing him in the Big Apple in Central Park giving a speech. (1955) . That was the same year that another Cuban named Sandy Amoros made the famous WS "catch heard around the world". America was like another planet back then. When one side tries to exploit you with i.e. mob controlled hotels/casinos , you go to the other side of the political spectrum for socio/economic assistance.(Russia and/or China). It's a serious balancing act because who is to say that the treacherous Russian oligarchs won't "sell you down the river"? Or that the greedy Chinese won't try to swallow you up? Despite a 60 yr. old embargo & millions of "enemies" , the Castro regime is still on the map & doing its best to survive in a very hostile political atmosphere. Expect the likes of Trump & DeSantis to make conditions even worse after 2024. I can see the writing on the wall.

Relationship with the Batista Regime: Before Castro's revolution in Cuba, the U.S. supported the Batista regime. Fulgencio Batista was friendly to U.S. interests and implemented policies that protected the interests of U.S. companies, especially in Cuba's sugar industry. Thus, although the Batista regime was supported by the U.S., it was widely corrupt and autocratic in its rule in Cuba.

I still remember when Fidel came to Harlem & slept comfortably at the 125th Street St. Theresa Hotel in 1960. He had stormed out of some luxury midtown U.S. State Dept. sponsored hotel. They had demanded a 20K deposit for the rooms. Malcolm X arranged for the Castro contingent to stay in Harlem. He met with some famous Blacks including Malcolm X & poet Langston Hughes. He and some of his entourage toured the streets of Harlem where they were welcomed by a great number of the community in general. NYC has changed a lot since then. There are a few additional points that can be made about Fidel Castro's relationship with the U.S.
Castro's early position and proximity to the U.S.: Fidel Castro started out as a nationalist rather than a communist at the beginning of the Cuban Revolution. He was independence-oriented and initially wanted to cooperate with the United States. After the revolution, Castro tried to approach the U.S. with the goal of developing Cuba's economy, but the U.S. was concerned about his agrarian reform and nationalization policies and refused to support him.
Hostile U.S. policy: The U.S. opposed Castro's agrarian reforms and nationalization of foreign companies, especially as the assets of U.S. companies were nationalized. As a result, the U.S. initiated economic sanctions against Cuba and suspended imports of Cuban sugar in 1960. This had a major impact on the Cuban economy.
Alliance with the Soviet Union: As the U.S. tightened its economic blockade against Cuba, Castro deepened relations with the Soviet Union and transformed Cuba into a socialist state. 1961 saw the official adoption of communism and the strengthening of the alliance with the Soviet Union. This move posed a major threat to the United States in the context of the Cold War and further deepened the conflict between the United States and Cuba.
Bay of Pigs Invasion (1961): The United States supported anti-Castro forces in Cuba and unsuccessfully attempted to invade the Bay of Pigs in 1961. This event further cemented Castro's power and strengthened his anti-U.S. stance. The failure also further strengthened Castro's ties with the Soviet Union and set him on a path that would lead to the Cuban Crisis.
Cuban Crisis (1962): The Cuban Crisis occurred when the Castro regime and the Soviet Union attempted to deploy nuclear missiles in Cuba. This brought the United States and the Soviet Union to the brink of direct confrontation and became one of the most tense moments of the Cold War. Ultimately, the crisis was averted when Khrushchev of the Soviet Union and Kennedy of the United States negotiated and the Soviets removed their missiles, but the conflict between the United States and Cuba continued.

Why are you starting a sentence with a noun instead of an article? Nowadays, a simple English grammatical error can cause you a livelihood. If your name is De La Cruz, you have no business bad mouthing a major anti imperialist figure of the 20th century. All that you are really doing is bad mouthing yourself & your family name. To respect historical/cultural figures is to respect yourself. You don't have to agree with his politics, but you have to show respect to your own culture.

He actually wasn't. Fidel's original political influence was not Marx, but Jose Martí, who was very much NOT a communist. He became communist later after being forced to ally with the USSR due to strict american sanctions. I am by NO MEANS pro castro, as he was very authoritarian and repressive of freedom of speech and expression, but every situation has a lot of nuance
