It also doesn't help that nationality (or in this case continent) is the same word used when referring to ethnicity/race. For example, saying you are Japanese can mean either you are a Japanese national or that you are genetically Japanese. I think Dricus understood this.

Can’t blame the 3 kings for leaving Africa. Comparing a place like Pretoria to Lagos (which has about the lowest quality of life) is night and day. South Africa is overall a way better place to live than Cameroon or Nigeria…

@@jxxxhy because the European colonizers of South Africa set it up with a strong agricultural and economic base. Despite the best efforts of the ANC, that boost to the S. African economy continues to place S. Africa above most of the continent in terms of economic development. Not that it's a paradisiacal wonderland by any means, but it's certainly miles above places like Somalia, Nigeria, or the DRC.

There’s a difference being an African and being an African fighter/champion. His comment wasn’t necessarily just about residency it was about living and training in Africa as compared to living and training in a completely different continent.

Honestly, its stuff like this about Izzy that makes it so enjoyable watching DDP choke him tf out. Also, on a side note, I've never seen a fighter who always looks as consistantly gassed early in fights as DDP but he ALWAYS finds a way to turn it around.
Also the irony that its going to be a white African to bring the first UFC event to that continent is insane.

Humans are inherently tribal, and a big part of that is wanting to associate with people who look and sound like we do. When you go back to pre-civilization, seeing someone different than yourself almost always meant something awful. Either they were running from someone nasty, fleeing a natural disaster, or fleeing a plague. In most cases, that meant that something bad was soon to follow. So it was almost never a good thing to see another culture, much less another race.
