Hi, your video popped up in my feed and it was a pleasure to watch and see the progress your making.
I too have moved into a new build home with clay soil. OMG. Previously I had very easy to dig sandy soil, but clay wow. I have done some research and bought a pick axe / mattock to dig the clay. It is expensive but worthwhile. I got a light handled version made from fibreglass I think but it’s still heavy. It makes digging into clay so much easier, when it’s wet and soggy and when it’s hard and dry. I also discovered to add grit and manure to the soil to improve its texture for plants. Be generous with the grit, I got mine from B&M I think, and manure from any diy shop or from a local farmer / horse stables. Compost is a big no no apparently as it breaks down over time and doesn’t improve the soil long term. When you buy a plant in a pot the roots are stuck in the pot, and just digging a hole in the clay is the same as keeping it in a pot, so the roots and plant will suffer. Better to dig a large hole, add grit and manure to encourage roots to grow out.
I would put plants all along the fence/ path (a lot of digging! So perhaps in stages over next few years). If you use pots then they need to be watered regularly , daily in summer and we have such busy lives, plants in ground much better. Benefits of pots, less digging and u can grow plants that won’t grow in clay, as the pot can be what ever type of soil is needed. Downside of pots, watering, watering and watering, and you restrict plant growth. I never buy clay pots as they easily crack over winter, and suck water from the compost so need more watering again! glazed clay pots is better. I buy plastic pots, they cheaper and lighter so easier to move around.
The shed paint is watery as it’s designed to soak into the wooden fence/ shed, and needs 2 or 3 coats. Very different paint to indoor paint. Always read the can, because some paint for outdoors require a primer/ undercoat. Please get that roof support in asap!
Was worried when you said about skirting board wood, as that’s internal wood so will rot in no time outside even if painted. Your need pressure treated wood for outdoors. Gravel boards are great, pressure treated and designed to last, can be used for edging. Around the side back of shed, dig up 1-2 inches of the grass, it will eventually die anyway in the shade of the shed, lay weed control fabric and a nice gravel or slate. It’s behind the shed so practical not wonderful looking - thinking about cost about 1-2 inches deep. In front of shed with your trinkets, perhaps a mirror or garden picture or clock, but I would plant climbing plants to obscure the shed. Don’t buy clinging plants like ivy, it will ruin your shed woodwork, perhaps a climbing plant that flowers like clematis or an evergreen climber or bush. You could attach trellis to shed for it to climb up. A nice pencil Cyprus tree too to add a bit of height into the garden by the shed, but read labels to make sure it won’t grow too tall! Morrisons often have good climbing plants that are cheap.
Black gate / fence, or dark green will become hot in the sun, but a dark colour is a great backdrop to put green foliage plants in front of, or flowering plants. It will really show them off.
Hope all goes well, and I will be following with interest!

Hello, thank you for being here, and wow thank you for all your amazing suggestions and helpful tips. They are really really helpful. I am going to be taking a lot on board! Sheds getting fixed asap! I like the thought of plants in the borders too just hoping the back is easier to dig than the front! The manure and grit is a good idea too!
Loving all your knowledgeable ideas and suggestions it helps a lot! The paint makes sense now I will definitely be reading the tins from now on!
      Thanks again 🤗

I just came across your channel by accident and it was so nice to see you all out there in the sun as it is winter here in New Zealand and I am over it!!! That paint was the weirdest paint I've ever seen! What the heck was it?! Did it say anything about priming new, unpainted wood? I haven't seen paint like that before. I think your fences would look nice stained a nice brown or maybe black like your neighbour's. Black fences sure are popular here and they do show up plants and flowers nicely. I would NOT paint the path; you'll find it chips or wears off after a while and looks awful. Anyway, good luck with your project! It's looking good so far.

Thank you for being here! I know very watery paint! I’m not painting the paths too time consuming for me and not my thing 😂 thank you for the suggestions 😃

Beautiful yard space. Nice job and those pavers are great. I bought these Welsh pavers to put outside, but they seem to be for the indoors because they have broken. LOL to me, but I still love the the color. Thanks for sharing the pretty yard video.

I have this paint on my fences. Bloody pain in the arse isn’t it 😂 I too was expecting a nice sage green. Instead it looks more a teal blue. Better than the bare wood I suppose. You’ve done a great job. X

If you put stones down in your garden make sure you line it first with liner, double line it then it won't let the weeds through, the more you paint the more you have to keep doing it year after year to keep it looking good. Best to creosote your fences it won't chip and get dirty like painting them will, and you can get sprayers for that, why is your shed roof dipping so much, don't overpower your garden with trinkets, keep it simple and classy. 💐

Hi, there is already concrete where I’ll be putting the stones so no weeds can come through 🤞🏽. I’ll look into creosote thank you. The shed is poorly made very unhappy with it considering the price we lifted one side need to life the other too especially before all the rain comes!
I’m not one for aload of ornaments to be honest I’m a simple person!

Aww that's good no liners needed, not sure if it's your shed, or the man who put it up is to blame even the felt is wrinkly. 🙄💐

hi just came across your video. your shed roof needs some extra support before it fails and needs a new roof. A bit of 3x2 will be adequate
