Gotta get that line on the reel. I play chum on a 6wt , bent right to the cork . People using 8s pull the hooks, I let the flex of the rod do the job

The reel wasn’t up to the task on the biggest ones that day. So cold I was spooled twice in minutes. Decided to fight them manually.

I’d def put on the spool and hand drag over pull. Watched it get wrapped twice you’re lucky a big run didn’t happen during. But hey cheers 🤙 if fish big pnw steel on clickers

Saw that when editing too! Yea. Definitely caught me by surprise. Thats why in the one you see landed I hand dragged the spool 🤙

@@oak8728 not only that , but having all that line at your feet in the water is dangerous, easy to get tripped up in it . I'm on the fence about starting to centerpin or spey fish

@@JohnJames. good point about tripping! Thats actually a huge point for safety, especially where i wade in glacial melt. I’ll tell you centerpin will reward more fish...
But even though I own both I much prefer to swing. The grab is addicting as heck. Cheers to you and your fishing this holiday

It's really not the rod living on the east coast i know a few guys that fish a 5wt. with an 8wt. line and 16lb leader and tippet and have no problem landing a 15-20lb. striper. I would not recommend it either but it can be done.

100% i actually prefer fishing slightly lighter rods (not this light) on clear water days for tippet protection so I can fish smaller diameters.
