Fall detection doesn't work if you only fall because otherwise it will detect jumping as a fall. I think the way it works is by really falling without doing it on purpose because if you fall you get an andrenaline jump and heartbeat goes faster for a small amount of time, because it comes unexpected
I have the Samsung and I've fallen from my horse twice while wearing it and it hasn't detected it, both times I was fine and immediaetly stood up so maybe that's why it didn't detect it - def not a safe all, it will miss even real falls
I was on a step stool cleaning the top of the China cabinet and the stool slipped out from under me and I hit the floor hard on my side. My Apple Watch triggered the fall detection. I laid on the floor for a quick moment to catch my bearings and then dismissed the message since I was ok; I was impressed.
I can comfortably say that you guys are some of the most thorough testers. Glad to see this video. And good thing getting a mat to prevent hurting yourself from the falls.

My wife has MS and the fall detection was the feature I was most hoping would work correctly. Thank you for the confirmation that it does not detect all falls. I've read other reviews saying that it doesn't, as well. It would give much peace of mind if it did, so I hope this feature gets fixed.
Cool video guys. I think it's really great that you're not taking claimed features as face value. Samsung had told reviewers that the galaxy buds plus would have mutli-device auto switching. They quietly dropped the feature, but non of the reviewers even tried to test it. I'm sure some people will upgrade just for fall detection so confirming it actually works is important. These companies can't be trusted.

Ok, so what are we saying the false negative rate was for each watch during testing in the video....sounded to me like both have false negative rates that are far too high to be a reason to buy for an older adult who may be susceptible to falls. But, I am looking for more data.
I just ordered the watch 3 for the fall detection feature, not because I'm elderly, but because I ride a motorcycle. If I go off the road somewhere and get knocked out hopefully my watch can send help.
I'd appreciate if someone can give me their opinion. I'm deciding whether to buy the Tab S6 (256gb 8 RAM) or the tab S7. I'm not planning to buy the S7+ because I own a 13" laptop 😅. I found out that that major difference is the IPS LCD and the Super AMOLED. Thoughts?

@@TheCardGeek I'm a student, and I currently own a Tab S3 (pretty old ik), I do my readings, I'm also currently using it as a second monitor for zoom meetings, watch vids/documentaries, and play videogames (it's not that great for this last one). I do the typing and assessments in my laptop so I wouldn't rock a keyboard on my tab.

What it is incredible that you guys basically tell as is, no filter no politically correctness and when you something isn't working you revisit to make sure to give it a fair chance. Amazing ❤️

I can see on the way down you automatically break the fall with your body, (knees etc) and slow down falls without realising, otherwise you would hurt yourself using just a yoga mat. You need a real mat around at least 30cm thick such to enable a true fall. I think these watches can read the angle of those broken falls.

Love your channel and love what you guys are doing to keep these companies honest, while giving the consumers an honest look at how these devices perform. I love Samsung and Android. I also have mad respect for Apple. But judging by the findings here, I wouldn't feel confident with my mom having either device as a safety for these types of emergencies. They both have a lot of work to do. It should be at least 98%. Hopefully a software update will fix it on both. Really pulling for the Apple watch because my mom loves her iPhone. And currently I'm not ready to give up my Gwatch 46mm. Cheers!
The Apple Watch should detect more types of falls and it becomes more sensitive with the age of the wearer apparently so if someone is over 70 their watch doesn’t need such a violent fall to activate it
Apple have done a great job making sure you can't fake falls so it's really hard to get it to go off if you haven't really fallen. I would have thought Samsung would have done the same so it's no surprise that they didn't detect that many times.

Nice video! I'm a little surprised you didn't address that Samsung only states in the screenshot you showed that it detects "if you fall *during a workout* ". So, do you know does this only work if you've started a workout on the watch, or does it work even if you're walking down the hallway with the watch not in workout mode? Thanks!
To make the workout part is addressed we read the small print right after the screenshot in this video.We also addressed missing information on Samsung’s website in this video. As for “during workout” this term doesn’t mean you have to put it in workout mode, but to put your mind at ease it makes no difference wether this is in workout mode or not. It is a sensor that detects a fall. All has been tested., hope this helps 👍

Doesn't look like either watch satisfies my needs. My husband has had numerous and frequent falls, some requiring EMS and hospitalization. His falls are typically slow/sliding falls, not dramatic/violent falls. He is not able to get up by himself, and I am also unable to get him up. Both of us are too physically weak to lift his weight. I want to get him a watch to detect his typical type of fall and sound an alarm, then provide notification to me, then to emergency services if he doesn't respond to either of the first two alerts.
Good job with that fine print that it is only supposed to detect falls when engaged in some activity and not when at rest. Garmin's incident detection only works if you're engaged in a GPS tracked activity. Still thinking the Galaxy Watch3 is the best choice for my father. He's quite active, but not likely to care to "track" his walks. I hope...well first off, hope he doesn't hope, but if he does, I hope the detection catches it.

Agreed and that’s one of the gripe we have, everything is left to everyone’s interpretation and it is not explained, hopefully this will come ✌️
