When you're ready for it see...yours is an empty hope and the poet and the pendulum (but first read the background information and see the Wembley version).
The song is basically Tuomas(keyboards, primary songwriter and composer) telling off all the internet trolls.
This song was written for Floor, whereas Romanticide was written for original lead singer Tarja(Tar-ya) Turunen. And, yes, she can do almost anything. lol Only about 12.5 k fans here, Wacken 2013 had 82k.
Did you notice a different drummer? Kai Hahto is seen here. Original drummer, Jukka Nevalainen, whom you saw at Wacken, stepped aside from performing in 2014 due to health issues caused by severe insomnia, but remains with the band in management. He called his friend ,Kai from Wintersun, to take over.
Weak Fantasy , at the Tampere 2015 show, is another heavier one. Also check out Wintersun, Sons of Winter and Stars or Time, both from the live rehearsals at Sonic Pump studios.
What I enjoy most :
In the same vein as "everything is for a purpose" ; The way the entire band makes sonic space for Floor's growls.
- Emppu pulls WAY back on the volume
- Marco keeps the bass in the first octave, just below where Floor is growling.
- the keys/backing track is focusing on horns (coronets and similar pitches) and violins are soaring... cellos are fairly quiet.
- Drums are ponding the bass and toms
- Marco's got his voice WAAAY forward, pinging like a destroyer on convoy duty.
This leaves all kinds of frequency room for Floor's growls.
That band knows how to direct you attention.
There's just so much to enjoy in this NW classic! To mention just one thing, pointed out by another commenter recently: the way how in the verses, Floor switches between gritty onset of a sentence to delicate clean vocals and vice versa.
Easily overlooked when ppl are being blown away by the epic growls, but absolutely stunning vocal gymnastics right there. Tomorrow, she'll hit the Wembley stage again, bouncing back from her cancer scare in what no doubt is gonna be a grand celebration of her speedy recovery. Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘

Floor doing Floor things
Love basically everything about this song. Very theatrical and fun. Kai doing his thing with the drums. Floor vocal gymnastics, growls and siren whispering. Marko bass playing and almost laughing devil-like singing. Emppu very nice dirty tone. Tuomas keys and orchestral parts, I really like how those are like straight from the 70s & 80s horror films - over-the-top dramatic and very expressive sounds.
This from the first album where the songs were written with Foor's range as part of what Tuomas could work with. This allowed far greater freedom for both Floor and Marko to take the songs to the next level and introduced a more 'metal' feel that the poppy or operatic techniques they used before. Good reaction, enjoy the trip down the rabbit hole, it is really, really deep...and awesome. Keep rocking.

But the fact that Floor is absolutely unstoppable a few weeks after surgery for breast cancer will make it a perfect night.

I always enjoy seeing reactions to this song, especially the Wembley version, where it's easier to see that it's Floor growling while Marco sings the clean lines. I think you'd also enjoy their songs Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean (live in Buenos Aires) and Song of Myself (also Wacken 2013).

I'm all worked up here. I just came home minutes ago from LottoArena in Antwerp from a NW concert. (Postponed for 2 years)
I can confirm Floors operation has not affected her vocals, Kai drums more tribal than ever before, Jukka did well on bass and Emppu and Tuomas were steady as a rock. Troy worked his ass of combining flutes and vocals. As much as I enjoyed myself today, I do still miss Marko. Those are big shoes to fill.
I was told Jukka might be doing some singing now that he is a permanent member of the band. But today there was no mic for Jukka.
Was there also...😊 And I concur, Floor was outstanding, especially considering the circumstances! A little bit careful at times but Floor at 99% is still more than enough to blow your socks off! Indeed, nobody can replace Marco, that's why it's so great of them that they don't really try to do that; they bring it in a different way and it works! Maybe Jukka will do some vocals on the new album, but I'm not sure he'll ever do 'the Marco parts'...that would really be like throwing him to the Wolves, even if they are still 7 days behind...😁 I had hoped not to see so many phones filming in our Belgian audience though...I'm sure it's just me, but I still feel that to be a sign of disrespect; filming hands are not clapping, eyes and minds focused on filming in stead of on the pure artists in front of you miss out on a huge part of the experience, but again, that's just me...

According to what Kai has said(In Finnish music "magazine's" video interview) few weeks ago the demo for the upcoming album is fully done, and Floor + Troy has tried some vocals on the songs. Can't remember the name of the magazine but the interview can be found out off Utuub...
Kai didn't mentioned anything about Jukka's vocal parts, but that could be a surprise... Let's see what happens. 😉👌
They're heading in studio at July 1st 2023 to start "rehearsals" for the album recording. It should be a continuum, like Part III, for the last two albums.
The present line-up now is what it is and in that sense there's no need for any speculations who's filling someone's shoes and who is changing pants between the others 🙈 🤘😹

Floor can do it all vocally. Like you said most singers find their style and genre and stick with it, not her. She is constantly finding new vocal directions and sounds and perfecting them.
You have good ears! This song is the second in the Wembley concert. The first one 'shudder before the beautiful' from zero to lightspeed in a few seconds.
Floor can put a spell on you singing super softly (try "Slow love slow" or "Bridle Passion" from the Live Amsterdam show) and in a split second she can rip you flesh out of your bones with a massive belting note (classic ending from "Ghost love score" live from Wacken). You really did missed a lot about Floor and Nightwish in the last years but thankfuly you have youtube and the Nightwish Army here to gide you back in the right direction ;-) Cheers from Buenos Aires.

What you notice when you see them live, is how much they really care for eachother. Floor calls them her brothers and you can see how much fun they have on stage. Emmpu (guitarist) being the prankr of the band, even disconneting sloord reciever on her back lol. They are all so talented and you just feel their passion for music. No ego's, their effort is for the song to make it the best they can. I've been to concerts where I felt bad, because you could see the band was just not enjoying themselves and seemed to be bored. Had that with Metallica, who I saw 6 times since 1986. Nightwish, Floor....they LOVE being on stage and interact with their fans. They have a HUGE loyal fanbase (as you might have noticed) Every album is totally different with specific themes. Like one album spent on the universe and earth, evolution, bases on the books of Richard Dawkins, who is also their speciaal guest in the greatest show on earth. Their last album, Human Nature, is about all kids of aspects of human life. Metal, more folky songs, tribal...I love it. Because of Covid, they could not make live videos, so they made the most beautiful music video's. ( Noise, wow leefs you stunned, Harvest (folky celtic song about death in a beautiful way) Shoemaker (about Eugine Shoemaker, the biggest man in research of asttroids and craters on earth and the Moon, they called craters Shoemaker and NASA sent his ashes in an urn with a beautiful poem from Shakespear and so on) It is definatly somthing you should watch. Different than these songs...but they do it all.
What I like most of this song is just the sheer energy, the thumping rythm but not taking away anything from the band members and composition of the song.
Good reaction, always one of my favorite staples. Fun to see reactors first time realize it is Floor growling. Always a SHOCKER for them, though a few don’t recognize it, surprisingly.

Greetings from a UK subscriber. Once again a really good reaction. I think being a vocalist yourself you really appreciate Floor’s range and abilities. But, let’s not forget the rest of the band. Every one is an amazing musician and Thuomas is genius composer.
If you want to experience the other end of Floor’s range try “Shoemaker” live from Deichbrand. A tribute to Eugene Shoemaker the godfather of interplanetary science. The end of the song is quite a surprise and will blow you away!

i saw them live yesterday at their first performance of their european tour in belgium, they were phenomenal. Floor was still a little less intense after her operation with her well-known windmill movements and was sometimes emotional, but she is great.🤟🏻🤟🏻🎶🎶

Long befor this, Tuomas the Keyboarder and writer stated that there never will be harsh/growly vocals in NW, he was wrong ;-). But to my knowledge this is the only song where growls appear.

This one is my favourite! It was the one that brought me to nightwish (charismatic voice reacting to this). And it's (Floors growls and the haunting sound she makes) always like: Please, don't stop!! More!! No matter how many times i hear it. ❤️

Great to hear a metal head appreciate the female lead and orchestral elements. Some of my metal head friends straight dismiss a female lead singer. I have been hooked on Nightwish since 2003. Sadly I can't do any of their reaction videos! I still remember the excitement of hearing about an Australian tour, bought my tickets in May 2012 for Jan 2013. The Nightwish army will know what is coming! I was initially very worried about the events in September 2012 to October 2012. Watch 'Please learn the setlist in 48 hours' for that story. The first 20 odd minutes gives a very good recap. I was blown away by hearing Floor do the songs I heard other lead singers do. This is by far my favourite band and I would love to one day just shake their hand. I'm saving up for a trip to see them in Europe! My birthday this year was spent in bed streaming the virtual concert in Islander's Arms.

Nice reaction. The original concept of Nightwish was bringing an Orchestra mixed with Metal and an Operettic or classical vocals but over time and with the changing of the guard I meant vocalists they evolved. Marko the Bassist brought a Classic eighties metal vocals but there second singer brought a more Pop sound until Floor arrived and Judging by her past bands After forever and Revamp she was going to add some more different elements while still trying to uphold the original concept of the band. I myself have matured more over the years and highly respect the very elements that built the foundations of Metal today and that was Classical music. Nightwish has given me a more modern look at what that sounds like in the 20th century but I admit I still prefer a more heavier side to Nightwish I do respect the complexities of some of their other songs and depending on my mood enjoy the more relaxing songs as well. Thank you fellow Metal head and Vocalist.
Originally Nightwish was going to be acoustic "mood" music. They were surprised when Tarja started singing in the first rehearsal...

Where did you find this info out?. As far as I'm aware once Nightwish formed there music was Metal and Classical with an Opera vocals so I was never aware of this Mood music?. I was explaining about Nightwish and how it's changed or evolved but if it's beginnings was Acoustic mood music that's a massive jump to the beginnings I've always known.
Wembley is 12,500 and was sold out again this year (2 weeks ago).
Nightwish have rescheduled Asia tour for Floor's cancer therapy...

You should react to Phantom of the Opera from End of an Era live, 2005. There was the first lead singer, Tarja, and that performance is really worth to be watched and heard.
I honestly prefer Floor over Tarja, but that live is majestic.

NW is a huge rabbithole, along with Sabaton, Epica, Jinjer, Iron Maiden, Metallica...btw, good catch on the Floor growling, a lot of vocal coaches miss that at first, thinking it's Marco. Metal musicians actually tend to see it sooner

If you want to expand your metal experiences from the Dutch, please check out Aeryon “the day that the world breaks down” and after that “everybody dies” (live). The componist Arjan Lucassen is Dutch but he collaborates with everybody in the metal world. He makes metal/rock operas and is brilliant. Maybe you even get a Floorgasme there (oeps, did I said that?)

Marko is great singer. he has that something. i recommend to you to listen Tarot either Wings Of Darkness or Tides. 2 very good songs.
Nightwish rarely uses Floor's growling technique. However, there is some anger to this song thus the growling.
You should check out a newer record from the Dutch prog metal genius, Arjen Anthony Lucassen. It is from his project called "Star One" entitled Revel in Time. Each song is inspired by a movie about time travel. See link for "Fate of Man". Can you guess the movie inspiration behind this song?

I love the way the voices of Marco and Floor works together, sometimes it feels unfair to both Marco and Troy because they are to amazing singers, on the other hand it's not an easy task to compete with a Valyria.

I would suggest Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean (live in Buenos Aires 2019) or Weak Fantasy (live at Tampere 2015). Both on the heavier side with great vocal performances from both Marko and Floor.
Also, if you aren't familiar with them already, check out Jinjer. Pisces live session is a good start, or Perennial (live at Wacken 2019). Great band and a deep rabbit hole!
