I'm not even sure how someone could not like this. I've got a friend who recently told me that "Snarky Puppy is primarily a spectacle band and that's not my cup of tea." I was genuinely confused by this statement and almost asked him to provide supporting evidence and to site his sources AHAHAHA... For someone (my friend) who prides themselves in being a pop producer, homie sure does not know how to open their ears and/or at the very least, listen with a critical ear. Thank you for letting me vent hahahaha.
I was there for this. It was pretty amazing how beautifully this artist's improvised vocal "solo" in the style of Indian music worked here. But then, that's been one of Snarky Puppy's trademarks - blending and incorporating musical influences from around the world. One thing to pay attention to when watching/listening is Justin Stanton (just out of frame on the right side). He's listening carefully to her solo and the spaces between her phrases. His brilliant fills on the Fender Rhodes piano are reminiscent of Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock doing the same thing in live shows when they'd be backing up another band member's solos. Thanks to this UA-cam channel for sharing this amazing performance and letting those of us who were lucky to be there relive these magical performances.
I was there also - I loved watching Justin trying to match her vocals, he was smiling the whole time and it just totally reinforced how amazing and inclusive and curious all these cats are - so great.
I mean, how can you not love them?
