This girl is so sociopathic and scary to me. She did it so fast, it seemed like she already had intended to do this at some point. Eerily calm and collected. Insane.
Her being eerily calm and collected is just the effects of the nicotine from her vape. Just kidding. She wasn't allowed to vape. The real tragedy is that she killed her mother over a vape instead of a cigarette. Just kidding.
it was definitely planned out. she knew exactly what to do, where to go, how to work the gun (and knew how many bullets it contained), and how to execute this crime. although it failed, this wasn’t a spur of the moment thing. :(
Hiding the gun behind her back to not be seen on the camera and texting her stepfather as her mother makes me comfortable with her sentence. She was in control every second and that’s terrifying. She’s exactly where she should be.
Seriously though when I saw her standing in the video with the phone and found out later she was trying to set a trap for her stepdad it really messed me up. It’s so disturbing
@@mowi9645someone who murdered someone else over a vape? im 14 and i know that what she did was horrible. she obviously knew what she was doing. just cause she is 14 doesnt mean she shouldnt be treated as incompetent in court, she should be sentenced as an adult
mrs. smylie was my geometry teacher, i remember going to school the next day and the whole entire high school was quiet, i remember sitting in her class asking her if “she was okay” (those were my last words to her) (the day after she was shot) (she also had a allergic reaction to something). i also remember going to my art class and seeing carly smirking while going to her mothers classroom, that’s the last i ever saw carly. Also, in the next few weeks mrs. smylie parking lot was filled with flowers and so was her classroom door.

Carly’s mom Ashley did not deserve this. Not only was Ashley going through a painful custody battle with her abusive ex, holding down a full time job, and managing her daughter’s intense behaviors acting out. I feel Ashley did everything right to help Carly (counseling, talking, limiting phone time, medication) but it didn’t work. This just breaks my heart.
Carly is a very disturbed individual. She had her whole life ahead of her now she has to live with what she did the rest of her life. I hope she never gets out of jail.
I was caught with cigarettes SO many times in high school back in 2010, did I EVER even think about killing my parents?! I had severe untreated mental health issues as well. Hell NO. That’s just WILD.
got caught with a vape in highschool and my first thought was to off myself not my mom... along with having untreated mental health issues at the time, mental health is never an excuse for violence.
I'll take it a step further with the same exact ending though. I was in high school and I was caught sneaking into my parents room before school, before I went to take my shower (so we're talking around 4:30am) trying to steal my Ma's pain killers off her nightstand, she had lung cancer surgery and was recovering at home still. My dad had said, "Put them back now!" I was almost out the bedroom door. I nearly 💩 myself but I put them back and got ready for school. Know what I did? I apologized to my parents, told my Ma I only stole one prior to taking her bottles, which was a lie, but I never argued or yelled or put hands on either parent, especially my Ma. I'm 9 years clean and sober current day. I've been down a very dark path, running from a lot of childhood and adolescent/young adulterhood trauma in the most self-destructive manner. Now, I'm married with an amazing husband and we have a precious 6 years old daughter, a home and a life I couldn't believe that I would be Blessed with.
like what the actual hell are you expecting, you just killed the woman who'd carried you for 10 whole months and you straight up take her life and expecting your sentence to be light.
She smiled on home surveillance video, and has never shown any remorse for what she did. Once the reality of prison hits her, she will have remorse, but only for her own miserable self.
it is theorized that the step dad groomed/SA her bc she only cried for him and yet no remorse for her own mother he ( at one point ) mouthed something to her during the trial ( ppl dont know if it was "i love you" or "its gonna be ok" ).
I’m fourteen and this is terrifying. I live with the same parental restrictions and I have depression and anxiety but I have never considered substances or murder. That’s insane. I hope she gets the help she needs though and I hope her friend who saw that isn’t scarred for life.
I'm 28 and had a bad upbringing that also left me with depression and anxiety. My whole family was on some sort of drug or had an alcohol problem, and somehow I was never drawn to any of that stuff no matter how hard things were. I'm proud of you for having the same mindset, it takes a lot of strength and discipline. Wishing you happiness and healing, you'll be a free adult soon enough. ❤
I wish you healing ❤ And way to go avoiding substances. As an adult I can confidently say my biggest regret is starting to use nicotine and weed at 12, it really ramped up at 14. Now, I can’t put the vape down and I truly think I messed up my memory because I don’t remember a lot of things from 12-16. Experimentation is one thing, but really be careful
if you listen closely at 18:14, you can hear her mother say help me which in response carly sings no. this whole clip is upsetting, i cant believe she did that over some vapes☹️
My mom once found cigarettes in my pants when I was a teen, told her i wore them for a party and my friend put it in my pocket as she didn't have any pockets. She 100% bought it. That's what teens are supposed to do, try to talk your way out of it and of its a lost cause, accept your punishment.
Of course. My parents caught me with cigarettes while underage and It never even crossed my mind to lash out or question their authority in that situation. As you said, teens will be teens but going this far is absolutely beyond me
O no i would Blame friends to I ain’t gone lie my mom would find blunt roaches in the washer i would forget to get out of my pockets and such hide liquor bottles and such but once disposable vapes came to my attention HOLY FUCK IM ROLLING I could hide it between the box spring and the mattress FUCK YEAH
And the dogs being all excited following and the running 😞 this is horrible for everyone. They knew what happened. You can see one of the dogs back up and keep looking at the gun so sad
Yall must’ve never seen Bailey sarian before💀 you got a problem get over yourself don’t watch the video point blank period. I’d recommend watching How It’s Made if that helps any☺️ leave sis alone thank youuu❤
That was a solid sentence. She clearly isn’t mentally stable on meds or not. What she was so disturbing, she did it without even blinking an eye. Just saw her mother in like less than two seconds grabbed the gun and just shot her mother. And planned to do the same to her step dad. She would definitely be a serial killer if she got out of prison. That was too smooth. I’ve never heard or seen someone’s first kill go that way. And her idea of panicking was to invite people over to look at her dead mother and wait? I just can’t
She wouldn't of become a serial killer, There was never the signs, She would of been on the list with all the other family Massacres, Like The Menendez brothers and Ronald DeFeo Jr.
Not everyone with a mental illness commits murder. I understand your fear and wanting to lock people up to stay safe, but we can’t lock up millions of people who struggle with mental illness just because a very small fraction of people commit murder. Also, Carly’s psychiatrist testified on the stand that what she did had nothing to do with any serious mental health issue, because she saw no evidence of a serious mental illness in Carly. You can find that clip on Law & Order Crime UA-cam channel.
At the ‘singing’ part, You can hear her mother say ‘Help me’ and Carly is saying ‘no’ in a singsong voice a couple of times. It’s vile and disturbing. This alone makes the sentencing absolutely reasonable. Edit: 18:13 to 18:15 right before Carly sings. it seems like this wasn’t her mother’s first time saying help me though, Carly just ignored it the first time and decided to mock her the 2nd. In the full length version of this footage you can hear her ask for help multiple times. Rest in peace Mrs. Smylie :(
How would her mother have said help me if her face was mutilated tho? Edit: thanks for the education, those who replied! I had no idea that could be possible. If that’s the case in the video, that’s extremely chilling and sad
@@katiehaley2850pretty sure she was shot in the middle of the face (probably around the nose area) and the chin. As awful as the injuries would be, it definitely could’ve still been possible to muster a few more words. My heart goes out to that poor woman.
doing your makeup and a sponsorship segment whilst casually describing tragic and traumatic events in graphic detail is almost as wild as the tragic event itself. this isn’t internet drama or highschool gossip, it’s a murder case. do you not hear yourself ?? please read the room
I think it's okay the way she does it. Some of us need to focus on more than one thing to follow the story. I find it better to listen to the case while watching her move and apply makeup. I don't think it's disrespectful. She doesn't joke around about the case or anything, so it's fine.
the dogs 😭 you could see their concern with the way she stormed from her room to her parents’ room and especially after the shots. and poor “Brittany”, being traumatized with such a horrific memory at such a young age
I had shit taken away all the time as a kid and not one single time did I think “ok let’s kill mom” I have no idea how you could even think that. My mother is my world, that poor woman
"My mom loves me, it's unthinkable to me" is not "My mom is abusing me frequently and feeding me psychotropes while her stepfather helps her with abuse and they're loving sometimes but most of the time are just destroying my mental health so I think about murder for this nightmare to end". Kids don't get this sort of reactions to arguments from nothing, she 100% picked it up from the mom. The stepdad was just confused or blaming her for problems that pretty much always stem from the parent and even if this exact one doesn't, it always starts at home. It's what PTSD looks like, not something that comes from friends, drugs or from genes. The stepfather should also be held responsible for abuse but I already can tell the sort of person the judge is.
I had my phone taken away at night just like Carly all the way till senior year and never thought of something bad like that either. I actually am grateful cause it added concentration on my school life
I went cold turkey on my antipsychotic medication once and had terrible hallucinations, thought my life was in danger, and was incredibly violent. However, I was not in the right state of mind so I was not conscious enough to hide my wrongdoing. I believe Carly knew what she was doing .
Nor were my actions meticulous and thought out. It was split-second decisions during a blackout and have no recollection of it, I only know what I’ve been told.
You need to stop doing your makeup while talking about such horrific cases. It makes it so unserious and it's honestly disrespectful. Just talk about the case.
I didn't realize she's your puppet to control. As if she can't make her own decisions for HER CHANNEL? How about watch someone else or make your own? MANY people do makeup while discussing true crime.
@@RedSand103are you forgetting this is her job? as she’s educating on these cases as you’ve just stated they’re horrific, her videos are most likely demonetised, how is she meant to make a living?
@@maiafoott3579 I’m not opposed to anyone getting their bag. I just wish it was done in a better way when it came to content like this. Feels like there’s a big dissonance from talking about how comfy bombas are, to then talk about murder 🤷🏽♀️
The thing that convinces me that she deserves life without parole is the fact she 1. told her friends she was freaking out and something bad happened while she was completely stone faced with no emotion and 2. invited another child over and showed them the body like that’s not normal “they’ll grow out of it” behavior
Sadly in some cases people are BEYOND saving. It’s rare but some people are just fucked up and there’s nothing you can do about it other than isolating them from society or in extreme cases giving them a death sentence. Too many good people to waste resources on those who cannot realistically change and will pose a constant threat to those around them. Had she not been caught I cannot imagine the damage her ADULT self could have later inflicted.
RIGHT that is not normal at all, she ignored her moms plea for help and started singing "no" and was noted PLAYING W HER DOGS?? this is usually signs of an early serial killer, especially considering she had an extra plan to kill her father as well. She clearly lacks empathy.
@@theeliblog4559 I wish the judges had this approach with SA charges or domestic abuse charges. Like here, the dad should be serving for contributing to the kid's problems instead of continuing to waste good people's resources.
Yeah, her actions after the murder reveal her true self, and that it wasn't over vapes, and wasn't the heat of the moment. Why would she plan killing the dad too, if it was because of the vapes ? The title of the video is so superficial and kinda misleading.
@@rooroo1704 Yeah I Agree, and this monotone narrator doing her make-up while reading the story off a screen, I skipped to the shooting, and left after. lol
everyone saying the step dad is involved is ridiculous. carly planned on murdering him. he was shot and fought her off. he has no reason to want to kill his wife and lose the girl he considered his daughter to the charges. the footage of his reaction to everything should show how devastated and in shock he was.
I mean I think some of the things backing why people think her step dad could be involved is because of a possible relationship he had w her, which isn’t unrealistic in my opinion seeing how many pedos there are. The looks he was giving her during court was also just weird imo. She’s definitely responsible though.
Social commentary based on other people's suffering is in itself a weird flex. Getting paid to do so is a part of the weirdness. It's the newest form town gossip.
Lol.. like this isn’t her career? Sure it’s a “strange career”? Every true crime show needs advertising.. get a back bone or maybe a nice pair of socks
She did the work to bring this story to thousands of people but god forbid she gets some money from it. If you find true crime channels distasteful (most have ads/sponsorships..) just don’t watch it instead of expecting the people behind it to work for free. I mean does the fact that funeral directors make money from people dying also upset you?
It’s not dumb at all. The poor dogs just witnessed their mama getting killed and they are so confused. The one that came running out first broke me too. Poor animals are not even sure what they saw was real. Rest in peace Ashley truly horrific to be murdered in cold blood by your own child.
This might sound harsh, but the sentence was deserved. She does need mental help yes, but that doesn’t change the fact that she’s a danger. Having the nerve to cry that you got the consequences of your actions after killing your mom over a vape and trying to kill your stepdad over- seemingly nothing, is hilarious to me. Like do you want them to feel bad? This wasn’t a Gypsy Rose situation, this is a brat being a violent brat
You say that like gypsy rose wasnt also nuts . She coulda left at anytime…. She wasn’t actually wheelchair bound…. She was able to use sex to trick an Austistic dude online to brutally slaughter her mother with promises of having sex w him right after…. Which she did …..and were still seeing her manipulating people . She’s exactly like her mother and now some baby is going to be subjected to that freak show
I was extremely similar to her at her age, and I completely agree. I was acting out in the same ways, maybe worse, had extreme mental health issues, and was constantly getting caught, grounded, lost tv privileges, door, everything except a book and my bed. And I never considered hurting my parents. her mental health and nicotine addiction are a bs excuse. Her poor mom loved her and only wanted to help her.

Exactly!!! How hard is it to sit down and respectfully report on the matter. @the-postal-dude they made me react somewhat irrationally, tbh but never violent. Ironically, lexapro was the one that i was sent to the hospital because of. Some people just don't have the correct chemistry for it 😅
I don't think she realized that it is extremely hard to get off on insanity, especially with all the video and evidence they had, plus the fact they were withholding psychological records.
I don't have a problem with the sentencing. She's very intelligent, knew where to get the gun, knows how many rounds it holds, had ample time to call the police or an ambulance, instead she waits to ambush her step dad. Flees when she fails to kill her step dad. Yeah, life in prison makes sense in this case.
No life does not make sense and this will be changed on appeal. Pay attention. Step dad and likely not the best mom. She has been acting out for a while.
When I was 11, I lost my mom in an accident that was caused in part by my father. It messed me up for awhile and I didn't start getting back to any semblance of normal until about senior year of high school. Those are the hardest, most pivotal years in a kid's life that I don't think most people who've never had to experience trauma that young really understand. In fact, I know they don't because I distinctly remember the lack of sympathy and understanding growing up, from other kids and adults alike. I'm not making excuses for her, but I remember having some severely screwed up thoughts at her age similar to what she's been exposed for in her journal. You don't really know what's going on in your head at that age when you're plagued by so many intense, negative emotions and writing anything down on paper is cathartic. When I think back, I consider myself lucky I never broke and did something as stupid and horrible as she did.
i sincerely hope the friend who went to her mom doesn't feel guilt for what he did. he was only looking out for his friend, i feel horrible for all the young people involved in this. may her mother rest in peace and may her stepdad heal from this.
Nah, he ratted her out like the snitch he is, knowing that it would cause drama, and maybe abuse. And we'll never know his real intentions or motives. Maybe he was getting back at her for something. We'll just never know.
Definitely pre-meditated. Even if she didn’t set it up to happen that day she clearly had put a lot of thought of how she would do it. She went and grabbed the pew pew way too fast for it to feel like a heat of the moment thought.
Why tf is she doing makeup while talking about this extremely tragic case? This isn't gossip like "oh the jock cheated on his gf" this is a horrifying murder case.
Also, I’m not gonna lie to you, doing your makeup while talking about people who were murdered or sexually abused and other topics like that is kind of… off putting. To me, that read as disinterest toward the people you were talking about. If I was one of the family members, and you were talking about my dead mother that my sibling murdered while you were doing your makeup, I would feel disrespected. That’s just my two cents.
@@Dpsawn hopefully she sees these comments and like… doesn’t do it again. I’m not gonna cancel her over it tho lol I’m just saying it might be a lil tone deaf
As someone who struggles with mental health.. and was heavily abused as a child. Even if that I never once had a thought of killing my mother. This is insane… over some weed and nicotine. Terrifying.
Me too, same situation incredibly abused and neglected and I did have thoughts of violence but I never wanted to go through with it at all, it was just a coping mechanism to escape the other thoughts at the time I think. It’s normal if you’re being hurt to want to hurt back, but I was mentally unwell also at the time but still knew I didn’t want to off my own mother & I also do not think this girl was going through anywhere near what me and others did, she just didn’t like to be controlled and god knows why she did it, it’s not justifiable or relational to her family issues proportionate enough to want to off her mother & stepdad. Sick individual needs to be locked up with those sentences no parole 100%
Though I would also add Americans have guns everywhere in their own homes, it’s not smart and even less smart to not lock it up because children are around.
this is very upsetting so be warned if you read this. I saw in the comments that the singing at 18:14 is possibly her saying “no” when her mother VERY CLEARLY says “help me” her mother clung to life minutes after she shot her. I hope that brat rots in jail and her mother rests peacefully.

@@pe1rcess We will never understand what the friend was thinking until they publicly speak (if they even want to). Yeah, I can’t watch all of this she’s so disgustingly out of touch it’s disturbing and I’m glad someone else has the sense to notice this was fucked up. She’s acting like she’s reading a story book rather than a real documentary where REAL human beings are going to be permanently affected.
this video feels so odd… just doing your makeup while talking about someone being murdered? a child being possibly abused? it’s one thing to cover these extremely serious topics, but talking about it so casually like you’re gossiping to your friends… weird.
Literally was thinking the same thing... like if I had a family member murdered and saw a video of some chick doing her makeup talking about it like it's nothing I'd be off-putted as heck
That's the norm for this "genre" unfortunately. They're just just trying to get as much attention and profit from the subjects as possible with no regard for the people actually affected.
literally, she said that this case wasn’t even a week old, and it you’re doing your makeup? also, showing the actual video voltage of the kitchen, while you can hear everything? this is so weird
It’s both actually I have been a fan of hailey for quite sometime now she has always done makeup looks while she talks about these stories and I’ve never had a problem with it remember she is the one with 1 million subs 👍
People love to say you cannot get addicted to weed. YOU CAN. you can get addicted to anything. Eating sponges. It's whatever you find helps and you lock in on it, becoming addicted. WEED IS ADDICTIVE YALL. Coming from someone who's been smoking 5 years.
When people say you can't get addicted to weed, they mean that your brain can't be overwritten by the chemicals to become dependent on them. That's different from say, an addiction to the repetitive actions of chewing on sponge, which is a physical habit not a chemical addiction. But I do personally think that weed does have chemical addiction properties.
Adult crimes deserve adult consequences....Look we can agree to disagree, if she's willing to shoot her mother in the face with a MAGNUM at 14 over a VAPE, that's not going to improve later in life. And the fact that she lured her stepdad back....As a former 14 year old, I understand that murder is still murder???? And look this is just my opinion, but her bizarre and radical behaviour to me, is more consistent with individuals who go through withdrawals, not a psychotic break. or rather threat of withdrawals, in combination with tumultuous teenager hormones and decision making
i 10000000 percent agree. there was a plan there. as she said at the start she’s super smart, this was incredibly calculated. the fact she knew immediately to go get the gun and how she was sooo calm just shows that she isn’t stupid and that she had thought about this before. actions have consequences. she deserves the worst. even if she hated her parents who just wanted to protect her, there was absolutely no need to shoot her IN. THE. FACE???!?!! girl i’m in shock
Saying someone is not going to improve later in life is actually gross. I work in mental health and have worked with people who are disturbed, traumatized, criminally insane, etc.. Saying that won't improve later in life is why these types of things happen. That type of rhetoric perpetuates people to brush off red flags and serious concerns. She shouldn't have killed her mother point blank, however listening to this case I was by no means surprised it happened. If we don't rehabilitate and learn from these cases we cannot prevent them from happening in the future. Also she was clearly going through a lot and you're just like "it was that dammed vape that made her kill her mom" yeah that and the 1,000 other factors, again not justifying her actions but emphasizing that a reductionistic world view does more harm than good
Probably to afford survival lol, I mean it was a little early into the vid but you can just skip it and the process requires less energy then writing a UA-cam complaint
that's why i like kendall rae. i'll probably finish this video but it always irks me when youtubers talk about cases like this while doing their makeup simultaneously 😺
Millions of kids deal with issues with their parents without murdering their mom and attempting to murder their father. A lot are also dealing with substance abuse, and they still don't murder anybody. There are no excuses for her. By fifteen, you know better. She only cried when she realized she was going to rot away in a cell for the rest of her life. She had no remorse, so I feel like you get what you give. She made her choice and now she has to live with it -- unlike her mother.

I'm just visiting her channel now, but this seems to be a thing she does in her videos on the regular: applying make-up while discussing a topic. The real question is: why would you miss this obvious fact, and ask this essentially pointless question?
doing makeup while talking about a case like this is so insensitive? you are discussing the loss of someones life, while doing make-up? don't you see how weird that is??
(Trigger warning: mentions of sh) You know… My mother was and still is unbelievably controlling (my therapist’s words, not mine). And when I was 17 I began smoking cigarettes behind her back. One day she caught me and sh*t hit the fan. It might just be me (and I’m saying this as someone who was diagnosed with major depressive episode in her high school years and other things in my young adult years and have had problems with sh for a long long time) but I remember that my guilt over my mom becoming angry with me brought me to wanting to hurt MYSELF (NOT HEALTHY MECHANISM, THIS IS A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE) and not someone else… so no, for people who say oh she was just troubled and wanted her way out of a controlling household, N O, no kind of “I was troubled/in a dark place” can EVER cover killing anyone.
I agree with this. Whenever something bad happened to me, whether it was getting in trouble, or getting abused, it just made me want to hurt myself, not anyone else
SAME like omg my mum would be sooo angry at me n i’d be like yk what yeah how could i be so stupid and i’d get so mad at myself and i would hurt myself because i’ve disappointed my mum so much. it’s just completely stupid for ppl to think she doesn’t deserve a life sentence. adult crimes deserve adult sentences
Millions of people commit crimes of passion every year (which I’m not even sure this would count as) Like, most of us know how to deal with our most extreme emotions But many people just aren’t equipped, physically or emotionally, to handle certain things I don’t doubt that she has extreme mental health issues, mix that with intense addictions, like, prisons exist for a reason. The people that fill prisons just don’t always use them the best way…
As someone who works in mental health and worked with people who have GEIs (guilty except insane plea) Carly's story isn't that much of a reach to me. Just because you internalized your emotions towards your mom doesn't mean that everyone reacts the same. Clearly Carly is very disturbed and has been for a while. These types of crimes need to result in rehabilitation and observation (as well as some form of sentencing). You can't just assume because you react a certain way, others will do the same. It's a narrow and quite dangerous worldview
@@nija2106 actually, you don't cry when you're desensitized, you're incredibly blasè and don't feel much, kinda like the responses thus far, making this incredibly ironic that the viewers are just as withdrawn and apathetic.
@@crymeariver2122 literally so dystopian. I clicked to hear abt the case and I saw someone doing their makeup... at least a little respect should be given when doing things like this. Imagine being the man (heath) who now has to live in an empty house where, just across the corridor, is where your stepdaughter killed your wife and you open youtube to see someone getting their makeup done like it's not your reality they're talking about. It's so weird and I see where you're coming from because it rubbed me the wrong way the whole video.
to be honest, I really don't like the way you covered this. putting on makeup, having a sponsorship on the vid, it all feels incredibly exploitative of everyone involved. If i was the victim of a crime I would hate to see people use my story on youtube as entertainment.
"Reporting with makeup" is a thing. Strange, perhaps, but I'm here for the way Hailey tells a story, not for her makeup tips. I don't even watch it. It seems harmless to me.
It’s mostly because providing a process visual to look at while telling a story helps people stay engaged. This is her living and using tricks to get more content engagement and views is important. It’s also nice because she enjoys doing makeup so she gets to do things she is passionate about for content
If you paid attention it's not "over a vape." No one's mentioning she grew up with an abusive father with alcoholism and drug addiction and was possibly manipulating her even after the divorce with her mom considering she was contacting him. Her mom was controlling (video cameras in the room, reading her messages, she couldn't have her phone overnight and had time limits, controlling who she dates) not to mention she couldn't even be free at school without her mom also being there. On top of that she was isolated, pressured into doing homework for her peers, and accessing drugs. We'll never know the full story, but from what little was mentioned in the video, that family was far from functional. On top of that, she's changing medication constantly and no therapist knew how to help her. OBVIOUSLY none of this excuses the behavior, but you've got to be dense if you think the ONLY factor that played into this was a spoiled brat wanting to keep her vape. It's sad how you and most of these comments are so ignorant about mental illness. She had told her friends that she wanted to kill her parents, that she was being abused, and whether that abuse was true or not she should have been institutionalized and her mental health taken seriously, there is no scientific basis to decide that she is "too far gone" / "beyond rehabilitation" without even making the attempt. And before anyone says "I was abused/neglected and my parents were way more controlling and yet you don't see me killing people" ....good for you? genuinely glad you didn't but it doesn't take away from the fact people are different from you. People react different to medications, people have different disorders, genetics, predispositions, people straight up have different reactions to abuse/trauma, don't project your individual experience on others. It's depressing that our society is stuck in medieval times mentality where we don't give a fuck if we can fix people, we just wanna punish/torture them and see them suffer. It's barbaric reading some of these comments and how some of ya'll are talking about a literal child.
Hey, I'm not here to berate your views, just to share my opinion. Of course, I'm no expert - I wasn't involved in the case. But from the research I've done (trust me, it's a rabbit hole), I was able to write almost 2000 words about the case, and to be honest nothing pointed towards the fact that the family was abusive, or non-functional... They were just concerned, and making sure that their strict standards were enforced in an attempt to aid her mental health (not to mention that they already placed Carly in therapy, so, they were trying at the very least). E.g. the camera (there was only 1 in the entire home) wasn't placed in Carly's room. So, it would be implied that it was placed out of concern for burglaries - particularly because Ashley was already concerned that her abusive ex, Carly's biological father, would try and enter the home (hence, why the gun was in the house in the first place). The only reason the camera was later found in Carly's room was because she had intentionally moved it in an attempt to discard/ hide the evidence that proved she had shot her mother, and nonchalantly texted her stepfather and friends afterwards. (I can go on, and on... This case is incredibly interesting, but I'll stop there.) Instead, I highly recommend that you watch BOZE's view on the case! (linked below, but if you're wary about clicking random links - you can search 'BOZE vs. the WORLD' and it'll be one of her most recent videos
Thisss!!! I feel like if we brush her away as some spoiled sociopathic brat we may doom other kids to fear reaching out for help imo. Though history may always repeat itself *we* are the ones who need to keep an eye out for the signs so ppl don't succumb to mental illnesses. There is a discussion to be had here so I don't see why we shouldn't have it. Also I really appreciate the reply that adds more context to this situation and told us more abt where we can look into it further. Thank you bro
Oh please that’s a lot of words just to justify a psychopath who killed her mother for trying to PARENT her!! You try being a gentle parent for an unruly teen and see how that works for you. This lady tried multiple times to get help for this girl while working full time and got killed for it and you wanna call her controlling? Don’t put the disfunction of the bio-dad on to the mom, she tried very hard to save her daughter til her has breath. This comment goes for you and anyone that tried to judge the victim for being a caring parent.
yeah, hand waving the adult in this situation casually keeping a loaded, unsecured firearm where her daughter clearly knew exactly where it was and how to use it is insane. eta before anybody is dumb enough to argue with me: this clearly doesn't excuse the actions of the child. however, this was an extremely tragic and extremely avoidable death. literally the first thing parents are told when a child goes on ssris or anti psychotics is "secure or remove firearms from the house." the victim in this situation clearly did not heed that advice and it lead to a tragedy for everyone involved.
i agree but that isn't at all what this is about. carly didn't buy the gun, her mom did. and put in a place where she can easily get to it. which is so irresponsible, especially considering carly clearly had mental issues. i'll put the same disclaimer as the reply above me; i'm not excusing carly's actions, nor am i saying ashley deserved to die bc of this. it's just not an illustration of why we need gun laws.
@@croutoncrouton3062 This is why in the UK if you somehow magically get a licence which you need a VERY good reason there's courses and even course on ammo if you want a certain round prepare for a theory test and a practical one to prove you know what it can do and how to use and legally they need to be kept unloaded in a fire proof safe and ammo in a different fire proof safe and not in the same room.
It's not about gun control. Criminals will always get guns illegally because they already don't obey the law. These laws just make it harder for normal people to get them. The mom should have locked it up and this never should have happened
I'm southern and everyone has guns. We rely on them for hunting for food and the occasional self defense. We're taught respect and proper usage. We do store them in gun cabinets and/or safes, but that doesn't stop someone who is determined to harm others. We have near zero gun violence here. The gun-free zones only punish the law-abiding people and create an easy-target access for criminals. A psychopath/sociopath or evil individual will find a way regardless. People need to stop blaming parents that have never broken any firearm laws or had no intent or involvement. A mentally disturbed individual will utilize any method. She is old enough to be held accountable. She is solely to blame.

It detracts necessary attention from the subject matter. It is not fiction, this is not a book club to discuss characters. This is a real family. These are real people.
Extremely disrespectful of you, Hailey to be spending the entire video doing your makeup. You're using the subject of a murder as background for your face, and to serve your CrimeCore vibes. If you had any substance, you would know that a reporter serves the story.
I'm not sure how many people know what a Swiss knife is, but I'm 50 now, & growing up a Swiss knife was a kind of thing a parent would give to their kid when they had showed some maturity. But Swiss knives aren't just a blade, they are famous for packing in as many tools as they could into a tool that still fit in your pocket. They usually had one long blade, one short one, a saw blade, but also scissors, a toothpick, screwdriver heads, etc. I can understand why an adult might be concerned about the fact that it could be used to hurt yourself or someone, but that's not really what I assume when thinking about those.
A swiss knife with a switchblade attachment is considered a switchblade and is illegal to carry in several US states (especially urban ones) due to being used in crowds to do subtle stabbings, and also being used in gang fights.
I’m a board certified psychologist. To make a generalisation about Lexapro is an overstatement. If you mix antidepressants, antipsychotics with stimulants, you are bound to increase/worsen what the medication was intended to treat.
No way is it harsh. You do grown up actions you pay grown up prices. I get so upset when kids do things like kill their parents because they are mad at them and they get away with it because they are kids but even as a teenager you know what you’re doing when you point a gun at someone’s face and pull the trigger. Being a teenager doesn’t excuse you for killing someone, especially just because her mom was going to confront her about doing bad things. Her mom didn’t do anything wrong, she was just trying to be a mom and her own daughter shot her 3 times in the face. No excuse

She had told a bunch of her friends that she wanted to kill her mom and her stepdad before this ever happened

Why would she plan killing the dad too, if it was because of the vapes ?
The title of the video is so superficial and kinda misleading.

I mean I think some of the things backing why people think her step dad could be involved is because of a possible relationship he had w her, which isn’t unrealistic in my opinion seeing how many pedos there are.
Millions of people commit crimes of passion every year (which I’m not even sure this would count as)
Like, most of us know how to deal with our most extreme emotions
But many people just aren’t equipped, physically or emotionally, to handle certain things
I don’t doubt that she has extreme mental health issues, mix that with intense addictions, like, prisons exist for a reason. The people that fill prisons just don’t always use them the best way…
@@katienugent9343 I hope you are doing better now, Katie! And I absolutely agree with you!
To be doing makeup while telling a true crime story has got to be the most desensitized thing I've ever seen.
well it’s her thing so if u don’t like it get off her channel
Cry me a river
THANK YOU! Straight out of the Black mirror episode.
to be honest, I really don't like the way you covered this. putting on makeup, having a sponsorship on the vid, it all feels incredibly exploitative of everyone involved. If i was the victim of a crime I would hate to see people use my story on youtube as entertainment.
"Reporting with makeup" is a thing. Strange, perhaps, but I'm here for the way Hailey tells a story, not for her makeup tips. I don't even watch it. It seems harmless to me.
have you watched her videos? they have typically been like this
@@bubmins nope. this one came up on my homepage. I never watch any true crime content
It’s mostly because providing a process visual to look at while telling a story helps people stay engaged. This is her living and using tricks to get more content engagement and views is important. It’s also nice because she enjoys doing makeup so she gets to do things she is passionate about for content
@elianamoored7975 ok but a sponsor is 2 far when talking abt sum1 getting killed by their daughter
So you’re defending her killing her own mother over a vape she’s smart enough to know there’s consequences for killing a human being
Hey, I'm not here to berate your views, just to share my opinion.
This case is incredibly interesting, but I'll stop there.)
Instead, I highly recommend that you watch BOZE's view on the case!
Sadly, this case is another illustration of why we need better gun laws, cuz adults constantly assume they are safe.
yeah, hand waving the adult in this situation casually keeping a loaded, unsecured firearm where her daughter clearly knew exactly where it was and how to use it is insane. eta before anybody is dumb enough to argue with me: this clearly doesn't excuse the actions of the child. however, this was an extremely tragic and extremely avoidable death. literally the first thing parents are told when a child goes on ssris or anti psychotics is "secure or remove firearms from the house." the victim in this situation clearly did not heed that advice and it lead to a tragedy for everyone involved.
i agree but that isn't at all what this is about. carly didn't buy the gun, her mom did. and put in a place where she can easily get to it. which is so irresponsible, especially considering carly clearly had mental issues. i'll put the same disclaimer as the reply above me; i'm not excusing carly's actions, nor am i saying ashley deserved to die bc of this. it's just not an illustration of why we need gun laws.
I don’t understand. Why is she putting on makeup while she’s talking about such a horrible case? This is so disrespectful!
It’s her thing. I don’t see how it is disrespectful, mind sharing/elaborating your view point a little more?
i get what u mean but it’s more for viewers to focus on a visual rather than just staring at her talking lol i don’t think it’s malicious she’s sharing the story
Yk many ppl talk Abt crimes while doing anything some eating some others different I don't see it as disrespectful unless she's making fun of them but she isn't so idk
@@itsmeashley2083 I tried replying to your copy paste comment before but it lacks respect. If the family sees this they WILL be insulted. It is not a subject that you should be disconnected from. This communicates that she sees their families tragedy as an opportunity to get attention and money rather than spreading information about the case. It detracts necessary attention from the subject matter. It is not fiction, this is not a book club to discuss characters. This is a real family. These are real people.
@@Deathlobster137 thank you.
Just a cold blooded killer, feel sorry for the dogs, they were probably so confused 😢
I got those in my stocking on x mas so yeah itsnot that odd. We never had guns
That is not what happened according to specialists
Really? I know someone who is bipolar+ADHD, and they have prescriptions for antipsychotic(s), antidepressant(s), and Adderall from their psychiatrist.
Yeah I was prescribed Prozac, abilify, klonopin, wellbutrin, and focalin all at the same time as a teen. Fucked me up
The nerve of her to be laughing and giggling during the trial but the minute they announce the sentencing she clearly deserved the crying starts.
“no one in my life loves true crime as much as u do” this made me feel so loved and like this is a 1 on 1 convo i loved it! keep up the awesome work!
that clip broke my heart. that white dog looks my my dog, he doesn’t understand what happened. poor puppy
Say it with me: you can understand the circumstances without justifying the action.
No
No way is it harsh. No excuse
I just can’t watch her do herself up whilst describing another’s death. Totally insensitive. Imo
OMG telling a true crime story while applying sponsored makeup or whatever is getting old.
Omgg so don’t watch it!!! If it triggers you don’t watch it! 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏻♀️
@cece862 it's tone deaf and disrespectful. Not watching it doesn't make it less weird. Nothing in the title indicated that she would do her make up while talking about a recent murder...
@@SolarDanii 🤷🏼♀️don’t watch it like I said. You wasting your time commenting. She’s still gonna post and people will still watch. Argue with yourself
@@SolarDanii it don’t matter if it’s not in the title a Quick Look on her page will show you that’s how she does her UA-cam videos. Like the people who do muckbangs and talk about crime.
@cece862 who looks at someone's page when they click on a random video on their recommended? sure maybe after the video if you liked their content but that's not the case here. and I've watched plenty of true crime vids where the person does nothing but talk and show articles, pictures, etc throughout their video. true crime and muckbangs mixed together are distasteful as well
Maybe I missed something, but from what I heard the 'controlling parenting' sounded like just regular ass parenting.
Yeah it's called uhb uce now.
personally i think the life sentence was appropriate because its not like she k illed her mom in a frenzy and then panicked and ran away/called the police or something
she calmly got the g un, hid it, did the deed, still calm, set up her stepfather's attempted m urder, STILL CALM, invited her friend to see her mother's body, and only freaked out when she fucked up and didn't get her stepdad
i think she was gonna take her mother's life that day even if she walked in to a 'how was the walk?'
Trivialising this down to “murdered over a vape” is just disrespectful
i hate these “true crime makeup story time👻” videos because they’re so disrespectful but this is the only video talking about the vape so i guess i will listen 😔
It's because she doesn't seem natural while telling the story and doing makeup. Seems forced and shes trying to be a Bailey Sirian.
Uhhh ok?
