Let the naysayers say what they will about your lack of safety in dueling without armor: you’re both consenting adults recreating something absolutely badass, and it’s the kind of performance that you’d only get with some kind of real risk. Cheers to you both, good sirs!
It helps that they seem to be intentionally avoiding thrusts to the face, with the one neck/jaw hit being the closest strike to being dangerous. A blunt sabre (or any other 'light' slashing weapon), using proper technique, skill and semi restricted attacks, is probably one of the 'safest' unarmoured full contact fights you can have, most other weapons are either too heavy in the blade or have too fine a point (even rapier safety caps/tips somewhat) to be used for full force non-choreographed fights, untrained people are incapable of keeping each other safe, while well trained people are so skilled their hits become inherently dangerous, that is to say, even a blunt arming sword hitting your arm or chest with full force will more than just hurt, not to mention hitting the head, hands or another weak area, rapiers and other thrusting weapons, regardless of any realistic safely devices, can easily cripple or at least hospitalize someone with an unlucky or negligent attack. This is why choreography is basically mandatory for stuff like this (in media), it removes a lot of the randomness and therefore danger, at the cost of making the fights obviously slower paced and predetermined, regardless of the care taken to ensure proper technique is used. But ya, while I always love seeing skilled fighters push right to the limit of safety in order to deliver intense and realistic fights, the simple fact remains, it's almost never worth doing, you only have 2 eyes to lose and few are willing to risk them for some camera time. I loved the video and I'm glad it was made, I just hope that in the future anyone choosing to do something similar, should do everything they can to keep attacks below the shoulder (in addition to any other obvious safety measures), even one solid thrust to the throat can put someone in the hospital.

I see duels from two conflicting perspectives. The martial artist in me admires the elegance and precision of a good duel. It’s always fascinating to see this or be in such a fight oneself. That feeling when you fight an opponent of equal strength and skill and barely come out on top is absolutely great. And then there is the peaceful, calm and rational 21th century guy in me who thinks that duels are one of the most stupid things our culture ever produced. Two men have some sort of dispute, and society expects them to deal with it by meeting up in fine clothing at some impressive location, like one would do for some sort of formal event, and then proceed to go kill each other? Seriously? I’m glad we’re moved past that. I’m more with the Japanese Bushido code in this matter, as it condemns the use of the sword for trivial reasons. A true warrior only fights with deadly force if there is a reason to, and reasons to kill another human being are, thank god, rare.
Why can't movies portray sword fights like this? Or Knight fights like they should be? Way more intense, the actual fear of the sword instead of the usual windmill attacks. But I have to say even if they're not sharp, still looks dangerous, specially eyes and around the face.

@@dequitemHow could you forget the dog? 😡
@@lukasalberter9886 ohhh shit. Don't tell that my dog.
Totally engrossed watching those duels. Very good. Thanks for sharing. Hope nobody was too badly hurt. That poke to the throat looked like it could have hurt.
It did, but no serious injuries.
100k was well earned! Excited to see where you and this page go my friend
It follows my path of injuries, but I hope it will not stop with one.
I love how it was not rehearsed! Great job! This is the type of fight scene we need in movies these days. Too many BS moves and acrobatics in most actions scenes. Realism will sell!
Masterpiece! Thank you for your Hard work!
But how dangerous it is to film something like this without even protecting your eyes, I congratulate you both for the excellent short film you have given us and for the incredible skill in handling your weapons, but friends, don't do things like this again, we already saw the skills you have, take care of your health and physical integrity, do not get seriously injured unnecessarily just for making a video, congratulations again and long live 😉😉
Thanks. But I love fighting like this and filming it is only the sharing of things that I do!
Truly impressive fencing
Gratuliere! Und das Special dann auch noch mit dem Säbel gefochten… exzellente Wahl der Waffe!!!
Danke!
Just as I expected the the fight is intense and men you got the national champion in your video, your the best dequitem congratulations for 100k sub's 🎉👏⚔️
This accomplished in 9min what The Last Duel failed to do in more than 10x the runtime.
But last duel was my inspiration to make this video and I love the movie 😅
Yeah would love to see more fights like that in movies! All that cgi or overcoreographed shit is just ridiculous. The acting here is just great, i would absolutely believe it!
Thanks!
good fight. I liked the duel of the tv show outlander in France. Jack Randall vs Jamie Fraser.
Indeed that was decend choreographie.
Congrats on 100k subs!
Great video (as usual)
Well done. Very, very well done. In all aspects.
the 1st one that ends with the touch to the neck is insane! , also, the 3rd 1 is kinda unfair cuz hienrich's arm woulda been munched from that cut, while charlie really plays up the wound to the abdomen, to a big disadvantage
Duel till first blood is boring, duel till fatal hit however like this? Really well done!
lukely the blades were blunt and the death acted, but scarry enough a few times 😅
@@dequitem It's all about knowing which hit is going to be no more than a nuisance and which hit will put you out of the fight.
@@simko6064 There were a few hits that looked deadly but didnt felt that way. Like the leg attaks. We had the feeling that they wouldnt penetrate the thick leather.
Cinematic masterpiece!
❤Awesome video! Love the mix of combat and lite-storytelling.
fantastic duels, Elise is one lucky lady!
My wife will not like this comment!
@@dequitem why wouldn't she?
@@dequitem I bet your wife would like an idea of you fighting a duel for her!
And...Matt Easton is the winner!!! Oh wait, wrong channel. Very cool video, I enjoy these realistic duel and fight scenes....Kudos!!!
But I hope Matt Easton see this video and like it or even better react to it.
Absolutely incredible!! I really liked the alternative duels. I am guess these came from having the fight for real and seeing how it would go with the characters in mind? Really interesting way to do it!!! I love this content, man, keep it up and stay safe :)
We did 8 duels and I choose the 3 most fitting for the story in editing.
This was a truly brilliant piece, sir- Wonderfully engaging throughout, and using the classic Rashomon format! Thanks so much for sharing it with us, and I'm glad that neither of you lost an eye! 8-o 👍👍 Bravo! 👏👏👏
I didn't know the film, so the last duel was my inspiration!
@@dequitem Ah! Of course it was! haha But, indeed, you should watch Rashomon, when you get a chance, as it is certainly what inspired The Last Duel's narrative structure. It's a brilliant film... one of Kurosawa's best! 👍👍
insane acting btw very nice
3:14 Dude my heart stoped for a second.
Why can't movies portray sword fights like this? Or Knight fights like they should be? Way more intense, the actual fear of the sword instead of the usual windmill attacks.
But I have to say even if they're not sharp, still looks dangerous, specially eyes and around the face.
It is not only looking dangerous, it actualy was very dangerous, but also fun!
