*_#3 The River Walk_* Even though all maps of the River Walk including the one @1:15 show how far it extends, many *_1st time_* visitors associate it with the central loop only, especially the upper run with all the tourist bars jammed side by side and on top of each other. So I'm very glad you highlighted the King William area to the south and the Pearl District to the north. You quickly ref'd San Fernando Cathedral which is a must see as well as Market Square. If one has never been to a mercado in Mexico, Market Square would be very fun. Yes, you honestly kind of slighted the touristy Tex-Mex joints on the River Walk but even though Mi Tierra across from Market Square is well known by tourists, it is a high recommendation and I give it many thumbs up. Loved by tourists and locals alike. Great resto, bar, bakery, overall experience. Really excellent video today. 👍
Yeah, I love how the River Walk expansion project included lots more of downtown, including the northern part which is actually really close to my high school alma mater, located near the Pearl District. If you're a local and I tell you I attended an all-girls' Catholic high school, you'll probably immediately know what high school I'm talking about. Anyway, Market Square is boss and I have lots of fond memories of my family and I going down there during Fiesta; I'd also recommend La Villita because it's so pretty and charming and I loved going there as a kid. Also, I know the Central Library gets ribbed a lot for being the "Big Enchilada", but I really like it and find it a local treasure, especially since I love libraries in the first place and this one has a really awesome microfiche archive of the Light and Express-News.
Excellent presentation. When we first moved to Texas, we settled in San Antonio. We live closer to Dallas now, but we love to visit San Antonio. We made sure all our out of town guests saw the beautiful sites. I would add going to the ‘Mercado.’
Lived in the Rio Grand Valley area got 30 plus years and consider SA my back yard. The river walk was even better around the Christmas holidays. Keep the great videos coming. Thanks mucho.
Bc of this vid my family made some amazing memories. Loved the missions. Enjoyed mariachi band playing at river walk and later in the evening more live music. If you do the missions on a sunday be prepared to be invited to church.
Well done sir, glad to see people enjoying the history and highly recommending it! The zoo and museums ( Institute of Texan Culture, The Witte, SAMA, The McNay, Children's Doseum, Blue Star and Botanical Gardens) are very nice family friendly activities. Sea World and Six Flags also for theme park fun. St Mary's Strip, Blue Star Complex, The Pearl, Downtown and The "Gay strip" on main street for bar fun. Food here is much more than Tex-Mex but Tex-Mex here is the best in the country! Thoroughly enjoyed your highlights!!!
San Antonio has done pretty well to preserve it's rich Spanish, Mexican, and German culture. It's one thing it has over Houston, Dallas, and Austin, IMHO. Oh, and the food :-)
We spent Spring Break in San Antonio last year and we loved it! 2 other things I'd add to the list of "must do" items are the Menger Hotel dinner ghost tour (I took my 11 year-old and she's still talking about it great it was!), and the Natural Bridge Cavern tour. It's about a 15 minute ride there from the Alamo area, and well worth the trip.
Don't miss the snake carvings on the walls on some of the missions :-) Mission San Jose is the biggest and best preserved -- It's best to drive yourself to all missions since they are a few miles apart.
I'm partial to RIta's Fiesta Cafe on Bandera, Bee's Mexican Restaurant on Lockhill-Selma/Blanco, and Panchito's on McCullough. Edit: And I forgot about Jacala on West Ave.
San Antonio is so beautiful I live 8 hours away from it I go there for vacation it's worth going there's a lot of fun things over there I'm thinking of moving there but man San Antonio is some what expensive
But apparently if you go to an out building in the complex that contains a small scale model of what it looked like back in the day, you can listen in on a 30-minute audio tour done by none other than Phil Collins, who donated a whole bunch of Alamo memorabilia (and later became an honorary Texan).
The term "ice house" came from the Lone Star Ice Company that used to sell ice for ice boxes, hence you went to the "ice house". They began carrying certain food on the side (milk, eggs, ice cream, sodas, beer). Since it was the place that everyone went to get ice for their homes, and they would congregate there, the company began putting tables and chairs for the customers to spend more time (and money) while there. With the advent of refrigerators, there was no need to get ice except for ice chests, but they were still the gathering spot. Every neighborhood had one (or two) favorite ice houses that everyone visited. In San Antonio and South Texas, even the 7-11s were called "ice houses".
My favorite not-to-be-missed church in the Alamo area is St. Joseph -- absolutely beautiful church, and seriously a hop, skip, jump away from the Alamo.
champagnesumo But there is in the Alamo gift shop! (I worked there a while.) I used to wish we would sell red toy bikes and say they came from the basement.
Being a resident for the last 40 years, I can tell you that there is more to the city than just downtown. One of the major drawbacks is you will need a car to get around (the only public transportation we have is the VIA bus system). We do have Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Sea World amusement parks. The worlds tallest boots located at Northstar Shopping Mall. we are 2 hours away from the beach in Corpus Christi. 90 minutes from Austin and about 30 minutes from New Braunfels. During Christmastime, the people in the City of Windcrest, decorate their houses. Many go to the extremes and they usually have some type of yearly theme. Brauning and Calaveras Lake are cosing by for outdoo activies (as well as Canyon and Medina Lake). For sports, we of course have the San Antonio Spurs, Missions baseball (AAA), and UTSA (University of Texas at San Antonio) plays in the FBS Division 1 (C-USA).
Uber is really a good idea. Unlike Austin, Houston, or Dallas the downtown streets don't always run in regular blocks. Many are also one way, so getting turned around (lost) is especially easy. Also, many aren't aware how big the city is. The metro area has 2.5 million official citizens. There are countless unofficial.
Great suggestions. Many more in the comments below. I would add El Mercado, a Mexican market on the west edge of the downtown district. It is the largest Mexican market in the US. Even if not interested in buying anything just interesting to explore.
I need to check your Austin vid, then! Galveston is cool in some ways, not so great in others. The seawall area is a tourist-party snake pit much of the time and the hotels raise their rates exorbitantly during festival times. But the downtown Strand district offers some nicer sights and eateries. Plus the Elissa! (tall ship).
I was there a month ago... You can't take pictures inside the Alamo! And I didn't find very difficult to find a place to park your car. Maybe because I'm French.
Hey man, glad to see your in the Lone Star State! Hope ya' come visit Austin! Yeah, it's overpriced, pretentious and dripping with hipsters (sadly), but the history is great...the Texas Capitol is awesome, Barton Springs Pool in Zilker Park is always about 70 degrees even in 110 degree weather, the food is fantastic, you can even still go to the top of the Univ. of Texas tower. Circuit of the Americas has F1 racing in Oct, there's SXSW, the ACL festival...a snot ton to do. And no, I don't work for the Chamber of Commerce, just a guy who appreciates the area, especially in mid April when the bluebonnets and wildflowers simply explode everywhere! Happy travels and Via Con Dios, brother!
Was just in Austin a few weeks ago to see a band at the Mohawk. I love Austin and any excuse to go there, and I'm in! I love the vibe and the food is amazing!
It's a bad@$$ town, for sure. There is some extremist politics that show up here at time, which can be annoying to anyone who is anywhere close to moderate or centrist, but one learns to ignore that silliness. Doesn't cancel out the overwhelming positives. What's even better is the entire central Texas area, there is so much around here, no wonder we've been blowing up in population since 2000, a boom that never ends. And it's pretty cool we're only about 45 minutes from San Antonio, too. Can't imagine anywhere in Texas that's a better place to be.....
So glad you are doing a summer version of Vancouver.. I am going to bet that's ur favorite place in Canada and maybe even in North America ....But I'm biased :)...
You mention uber ... we are visiting from out of state is it necessary to rent a car or is there enough to do using Uber to get us around as we need to. What would you suggest as the best area to get a hotel
When I was at the Alamo eons ago, I was told that the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the ones who own and operate the Alamo, didn't want anyone to take pictures of the inside in deference to the fallen Texan heroes. The riverwalk is the best during Christmas time :) SO pretty
I saw some pictures. It looks awesome at Christmas
Shanequabumblebee I agree!!
When in San Antonio, go to Schilo's for German food and root beer. They brew their own root beer.
San Antonio local approved! You're the real deal. Great job!
San Antonio celebrates its Tricentennial this year. True.

Excellent presentation. When we first moved to Texas, we settled in San Antonio. We live closer to Dallas now, but we love to visit San Antonio. We made sure all our out of town guests saw the beautiful sites. I would add going to the ‘Mercado.’
Yeah. The spices there were so cool

The river walk is really fun
Lived in the Rio Grand Valley area got 30 plus years and consider SA my back yard. The river walk was even better around the Christmas holidays. Keep the great videos coming. Thanks mucho.
Yeah! The Christmas lights are awesome on the river walk
Bc of this vid my family made some amazing memories. Loved the missions. Enjoyed mariachi band playing at river walk and later in the evening more live music. If you do the missions on a sunday be prepared to be invited to church.
will be visiting in June. thanks for these tips

That's TX??? It looks like Europe woah, I had nooo idea 😃
It was originally established as a Spanish colonial city, hence the European feel of all our older buildings.
San Antonio has done pretty well to preserve it's rich Spanish, Mexican, and German culture. It's one thing it has over Houston, Dallas, and Austin, IMHO. Oh, and the food :-)
Vikingsandra Texas was controlled by the Spanish Empire for 300 years.
That's all downtown though it fades realllll quick farther you go out
Wait till you see Mexico
I am so Stoked I will there be next march for a wedding but I am glad I am watching these videos now to pump me up for my trip!
Wolter! We love you
Nicely done. You hit what a lot of travel folks miss. The Riverwalk has different vibes in different spaces. Good job.
Thanks alot short and to the point! I'll be voing in a week so I'll be sure to take notes!

I hope you were able to visit the Pearl & Tower of America's ....HIGHLY recommended!
I noticed the Shiner Bock with your taco. Good choice!
We spent Spring Break in San Antonio last year and we loved it! 2 other things I'd add to the list of "must do" items are the Menger Hotel dinner ghost tour (I took my 11 year-old and she's still talking about it great it was!), and the Natural Bridge Cavern tour.

Just down the road! Are y'all hitting my hometown of
Austin, too?
I need to follow you on social media or something cuz I didn't know you were in town LOL
I was shocked to see how small was the Alamo. Absolutely beautiful city to visit.
I know. Small but neat.
But apparently if you go to an out building in the complex that contains a small scale model of what it looked like back in the day, you can listen in on a 30-minute audio tour done by none other than Phil Collins, who donated a whole bunch of Alamo memorabilia (and later became an honorary Texan).
As a local I think the same about the Alamo. Oh and there’s a Haagen Daz a few feet away too. 🤷🏻♀️
Can't wait till you upload the donts in Texas
Good to know! Thanks for the tips!
Thnx for coming to Texas, please more on this wonderful state ;-)

Shout out SA

Hey I live in San Antonio what à surprise.
I never knew San Antonio was so beautiful!
It is really beautiful and to mention its hill country areas and great theme parks too
Liz thanks for the compliment on my city :3
boring :/ I have been living here for a year
@@Solitiam then you must really enjoy it since you won't move.
Remember there is no Basement to the Alamo
champagnesumo But there is in the Alamo gift shop! (I worked there a while.) I used to wish we would sell red toy bikes and say they came from the basement.
Yes there is! But you have to be In The Know and have the secret handshake to gain admittance. Sorry, no riff-raff and a two-drink minimum!
A must go to place is MEDINA RIVER it’s so beautiful!
Joana.Barcenas are you in San Antonio
We used to go to espada park and makeout with our boyfriends.

Kind William area. Viva Fiesta!
Really very good review.
Thank you
How did you know I was going to San Antonio? What a coincidence!
Love San Antonio tx

Yeah we had to recommend other routes for our uber driver since Google maps isn't quite as good as a local :)
Loved your video! Any chance of Austin, TX?
Easily my favorite part of San Antonio is the Riverwalk
So I lived in sa for a few years I learned new places
mmmm
You should come to Piedras Negras, border with Eagle Pass Texas, two hours from San Antonio
I have been to piedras negras. There is nothing to do in that dusty town.
you really got me for a second thinking you are in an european city the way the building behind you is shaped. LOL
Gotcha :)
Ayyyy! San Antonio is my home! Fanbase er what?! Lol
Crystal Marie hey i want to visit San Antonio soon, wheres some good places to find some herbs?
Great suggestions. Many more in the comments below. I would add El Mercado, a Mexican market on the west edge of the downtown district. It is the largest Mexican market in the US. Even if not interested in buying anything just interesting to explore.
Wow you are in Texas! Can you do a Houston one too?!
I would love to visit The Alamo the scene of one of history's greatest last stands
Are you coming to Houston?!?! Would love to say hello! I only subscribe to 3 channels on UA-cam and Yours is one of them!
Definitely take an uber or lyft ride, I've lived hear for years and I still get lost downtown. Parking is a pain.
I should've tried the puffy 🌮
I want there
Spot on! I live in SA, and you hit it out of the park. Are you here for Fiesta?
Sadly no. I filmed this like 10 days ago :(
Do Houston & Austin
We filmed a don'ts of Austin while we were there. We are hoping to get back down to Texas later this year and visit Houston and Galveston
Wolters World Don't forget Katy & Kemah while you''re there.

Hi! South Padre Island, Tx. is a better beach/island than Galveston. It is listed under the top 10 beach destinations of the U.S.
Mark, do you have a video on Tijuana or Rosarito in Baja California?
Sadly I do not
Bro, are you coming to Houston? Would love to meet you!
I was there a month ago... You can't take pictures inside the Alamo!
And I didn't find very difficult to find a place to park your car. Maybe because I'm French.
Ha, did most of the stuff when I've been there.
Plus the Tower of the Americas 8)
Cool. It's a fun city
Wow

San Antonio is my city 🌃 I understand what your saying but you got to say it in a less insulting way
You mention uber ... we are visiting from out of state is it necessary to rent a car or is there enough to do using Uber to get us around as we need to. What would you suggest as the best area to get a hotel
Its best to get a hotel downtown by the river, there everythting is so close by.
Are you gonna visit Laredo-Nuevo Laredo?
I was there with my dad years ago. but not on this trip
By now, Laredo has the whole Washington Birthday events. Quite busy yet its alright.
Yes that"s right, even Nuevo Laredo last night had a festival at the downtown a few blocks from the international bridges
Why are you not allowed to take pics inside the Alemo?
When I was at the Alamo eons ago, I was told that the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the ones who own and operate the Alamo, didn't want anyone to take pictures of the inside in deference to the fallen Texan heroes. But I remember going to the gift shop they have in site and seeing pictures of the inside of the Alamo for sale!
Go to ANY taqueria on the south side and you’ll leave a happy man/woman with all of the good food they serve 🌞
Ariana Garcia true
Ariana Garcia are you in San Antonio
Was 3:12 taken in San Antonio?
Yeah. German friend of mine married to a Texas girl and I visited them down in Texas one year
Hey wolter i have a fan question haha but being in San anto. If you could name 1 biggest difference in 1 word compared to like berlin, germany WHAT WOULD IT BE !!
Weather
So? You didn’t mentioned about Sea World, Six Flags, and the zoo 2nd largest in U.S.
You must take a guided tour of the Alamo.
When in San Antonio, drink Lone Star beer. Lone Star is good in San Antonio and crap everywhere else. It does not travel well.
True. It does not travel well
If you like Mexican food, one of the best places is Don Pedro's on the south side. Or if you don't think you can go that far you could go to MI Tiaras or La Margherita. Downtown. Most Mexican food downtown is awful, But MI Tiaras and La margarita are the exception.
Beware of the hotel room at highest in the US at 17 percent
What about the caves
Im born in San Antonio
