Hi Zach - Glad to hear your thoughts on The Husbands. I had given this book four stars since it kept me entertained and I liked the middle and last twists, but I would also have a hard time knowing who to suggest this book to as it does not fall neatly into a specific box. I will say, I've been dabbing in magical realism this year with The Husbands and Expiration Dates and there is something about it that I like, but I do feel like it is a tall order for an author to nail this style. They have to walk the line between too much suspended disbelief or too many plot holes. But I definitely prefer this style to fantasy, based on what I've read so far.
I've finished Every Time I go on Vacation, Someone Dies and I enjoyed it. The writing style was what drew my to this book the most. I did enjoy how the story concludes, I thought it was clever. I was surprised to find out this is book #1 of The Vacation Mysteries series, though. This felt like a stand-alone story and I'm worried that if murder follows the protagonist everywhere she goes, this might start to feel contrived real fast, but considering that I liked the first book (and that Everyone on This Train is a Suspect was even better than the preceding book), I would be inclined to give book #2 a try when it comes out.
I listened to A Calamity of Souls (David Baldacci) on audiobook and really enjoyed that one.
I finished Before the Coffee Gets Cold and I'm really torn on it. The part where people are traveling through time to meet someone were really touching and made me cry, but despite the book being short, reading the parts leading to the meet-ups felt painfully long. I suspect reading the English translation did not help, as it did not feel like an original text. I will not keep reading this series.
I just finished I Hope This Finds You Well (Natalie Sue) this morning and I'm debating putting this one on my Favorites list. This one felt unique, there was a bit of humour sprinkled in there, I liked the representation, I liked the office setting. This is definitely more about the characters' development and not an eventful story, but all in all, this was an enjoyable read. This is a debut by this author, and I'd love to read something else from her.

As always it's so good to hear from you. Thank you for such a thoughtful comment. I am glad to hear you enjoyed The Husbands. You're right, so right about magical realism. It is also something I am easing more into and really enjoying, some are working, others not so much. You read some hard hitting books recently. It also looks like you've really been enjoying what you're reading. I appreciate the time you took to write this comment out and tell me about your reading. Thank you for taking time to connect

I am reading Echo Blue this week now lol bumping it up! Last week of summer break so hopefully I can get it done before life gets busy with my little grade 4’s in September.
Omg preach it (about “The Husbands”) I felt the exact same way!! I’m glad I didn’t miss the whole point while I was snoozing throughout! I did like the whole premise of it being human nature to not appreciate what you have or to seek the next best thing. However, it was just too much! It got so boring and repetitive to me…just my opinion. Not the popular opinion so please…no one reply in anger! It could just be me! I really appreciated this review though because I thought I was the only person who hated this lol.
