Crazy right. Compared to now where it’s bad lyrics sandwiched between all curse words. This song number one. NF makes great non curse word music too. And it’s practically better
Before Stevie Wonder gave his permission to Coolio to cover his song Coolio had to agree no profanity on the song!! Coolio sampled the tune from Stevie's Pasttime Paradise.
This song alone had more people listening to it spanning all sorts of tastes in music back when it came out on the Dangerous Minds soundtrack - Everyone everywhere in every class was playing and jamming to this song.
They're showing clips from the movie Dangerous Minds starring Michelle Pfeiffer. It's an excellent film, based on a true story. Highly recommend! He's talking about being a gang banger that has no other options because that's all he's ever known, growing up in the hood. ✌
I'm not a huge rap fan, but I love this song. It's so haunting, especially the line "death's nothin but a heartbeat away". Shine by Aswad and Sweat by Inner Circle are other favourites of mine.
This is a song about growing up in a low income neighborhood filled with lots of people who have more despair and pessimism than hope. One of my favorite lines is "They tell me to learn but no one's here to teach me".
I don't think most people understand that Gangsters Paradise isn't the street... Gangsters' Paradise is who put that street there... it isn't the hood or even who runs it.. Gangsters Paradise is about who OWNS IT.... he's the Master of Puppets...
Never thought of it that way. I was a kid in the 90's when this song came out, so maybe that's the reason. I think this song was the anthem about how people growing up in the hood come to be what they are that NWA couldn't quite actualize. Compton's Most Wanted came close with 'hood took me under' but this song hits very different and hits on a wider scale in terms of the issue that is being addressed.
I’m English white and a country music fan but this song and that opening beat is one of the most recognisable beats ever. EVERYONE has heard this. It’s an absolute goat song. I’m 38 now and this song was my childhood
I grew up with parents and grandparents that were very musicaly eclectic. I was lucky. A good song , is a good song. A great singer can come in any shape or color. There is so much good music out there. Keep going in your in for a great journey
I’m not a rap fan but, I love the early rappers like the Gap Band-and Coolio. This was the theme song for the movie “Dangerous Minds”. An excellent, heartbreaking movie.
Excellent song. I'm an old lady and I still enjoy it. The movie that it's from it's called Dangerous Minds and that's Michelle Pfeiffer in the video with him. You must see that movie
Brilliant song ,its about continuous cycle of poverty & criminal activity trying to get out of it ,the child in the video is his son ,coping ,his father, this film is a true story ,about an ex marine ( Michelle phiffer) & her impact on her pupils
Hiya,Paul! Thanks for making an awesome video. I am a metal chick but I my boyfriend at the time saw the movie,"Dangerous Minds" at the movie theatre. This song blew me away. I couldn't get the song outta my head. Some of the lyrics hit home for me. R.I.P. COOLIO ! I still from time to time groove to "GANGSTA'S PARADISE ". This song I sang a lot back in 1995 because I was a 24 yr. old junkie and Crackhead.. So, Coolio's lyrics, especially the 1st line resonated with me,"As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death. I take a look at my life and realize there's nothing left...." Addiction made me a slave and I lost everything!Including, my son (5 yrs old at the time) and my daughter (3 yrs old at the time). "Death ain't nothin' but a heartbeat away..." "I'm 23 now but will I live to see 24. The way things are goin' I don't know.." "If THEY can't understand, how can THEY reach me..." POWERFUL LYRICS! I THANK COOLIO FOR THIS GIFT!This song has a very sentimental value to me. I have been in recovery from Crack and heroin since 2004;alcohol since 2011. I SHOULD'VE BEEN DEAD YEEEARS AGO! GOD was definitely watching over me! Now,my mission is to help those strugglin' with addiction/ alcoholism. May Coolio have a FANTASTIC VOYAGE TO THE GANGSTA'S PARADISE IN HEAVEN. SHAKA ZULU! ✌😥
Keep it coming! No matter the genre, if you look enough there are allways going to be soming that you end up liking. There's no reason to stuck to a specificy genre if you have a open mind to music. Great video, I love seeing people react to great songs for the first time
The kid looking back at him represents a next generation ready to take his place potentially meaning he knows he's a spoke on the wheel when he's gone someone else will take his place
If you listen to every song Coolio era recorded he's a happy rapper this song is different and the chorus it says why are we so blind to see that the ones we hurt are you and me. Coolio never recorded a song like this before this song or after this song. Want to know why? That's because Tupac wrote the song in 1994 Tupac was 23 years old and Coolio was 30 years old. In 1995 when the song came out Tupac was 24 years old and in 1996 he died at the age of 25. Everything about the song is Tupac. But it shouldn't be a surprise because Tupac was known for writing lyrics for those that rap with him like the outlaws and so on. Don't believe me do your homework... Why do you think it was such a hit!?
Hey Paul I loved your reaction! This was and still is, an iconic rap from Coolio and LV! That's my favorite actress of all time, Michelle Pfeiffer and this song and movie left an impression on me forever! Good luck with your channel! I'll check in from time to time. Cheers from Orlando, Florida!!!
I am a 62 yr old white mum from Australia, grew up on AC/DC, Zeppelin and Floyd. Rap etc never appealed to me until I heard this amazing song when I was about 34 and fell in love with it. The only other rap type song that I love is Lose Yourself by Eminem, so I am not a big rap fan but I love both songs to this day! Sounds shallow to rap fans I know. I am a music freak, studied classical piano for many years and did exams at the Conservatorium of Music in Melbourne, until I discovered boys and that was the end of that. Have to listen to music every day. But maybe due to the time I was born and the heavier rock music that I loved, I wasn’t exposed to any rap as it wasn’t overly popular in Australia when I was younger. But I prefer it to that awful jazz that sounds like a cat wrote the so called music, I hate that with a passion. Blues jazz is wonderful, just not that other racket.
Based on (and not loosly) on Pasttime Paradise by Stevie Wonder. Explains the extremly good chords and melody. But this version is really good. If you havent, check out the parody by Wierd Al called Amish Paradise.
Tell me whybare we so blind to see, that the ones we hurt are you and me. Always valid in every freaking circumstance. People just need to realize that
need to be the FIRST to react to this!!!!! it will add new dynamics to your channel and grab more viewers!!! ON GOD!!!! EVERYONE has gotta see this shit...... @
Just a suggestion but you might enjoy a reaction to the songs "handle the vibe" and "crossroads" by Bone Thugs In Harmony. And from one metal head to another, greetings from central Illinois over here across the pond (as yall like to say).
Back when gangs were rampid I grew up in California and I lived near Compton they didn't even try to hide their guns. Senseless murders just to be initiated into a gang. 😢 my friend was driving to work she dropped her child at daycare and on her way a gang opened fire with the bullets going thru her baby's car seat.
great reaction! looking forward to your next videos! My suggestion would Bruno Mars, Anderson Paak, Silk Sonic - "Leave the Door Open", if you haven't heard it already!
I am from india ,and watched dangerous mind series . And. So amaze . And feel same nigga feeling ....Bcz I put my self in that series and feel the pain and situation that time they faced ...Bcz I am untouchable in indian cast system ..Jay bhim
I think you would enjoy some "happy rap" from De La Soul or M C Hammer more than gangster rap which focuses on hating the police and being rude and violent to the female sex.
No they won't all be like that. That was old school rap, rap nowadays is shit. Nothing like that at all. Overproduced crap which all sound the same, no meaning but to earn a quick buck. Coolio was pretty much a one hit wonder and that was sooooo big when it came out. The lead song in Dangerous Minds the movie with Michelle Pfeiffer. I'm with you, metal head through and through.
Fun fact there's not one single curse word in this song and it's still considered one of the hardest song till this day
Crazy right. Compared to now where it’s bad lyrics sandwiched between all curse words.
This song number one. NF makes great non curse word music too. And it’s practically better
@@watchingthefireburn74NF is so good his song story Is a masterpiece from the start to the end
Before Stevie Wonder gave his permission to Coolio to cover his song Coolio had to agree no profanity on the song!! Coolio sampled the
tune from Stevie's Pasttime Paradise.
That's right, this song is one of the most iconic songs of this genre.
This song alone had more people listening to it spanning all sorts of tastes in music back when it came out on the Dangerous Minds soundtrack - Everyone everywhere in every class was playing and jamming to this song.
This is real rap. Not modern garbage that has no talent whatsoever.
It was THE MOST ICONIC

Ah okay I see, i'll add that to the list of movies I need to see. Thankyou.
Omg this movie is in my top 10 faves. I never knew it was based on a true story. I’ve seen this movie over 10xs and it’s always amazing
Michelle's character is actually loosely based on real life inner city teacher, Louann Johnson.
I'm not a huge rap fan, but I love this song. It's so haunting, especially the line "death's nothin but a heartbeat away". Shine by Aswad and Sweat by Inner Circle are other favourites of mine.
Those other songs aren’t really rap. They’re reggae.
my fav lines has to be ‘why are we so blind to see, that the ones that we hurt are you and me’
This is a song about growing up in a low income neighborhood filled with lots of people who have more despair and pessimism than hope.
One of my favorite lines is "They tell me to learn but no one's here to teach me".
that's why I know my life is out of luck, ****!
How could they reach me?
Exactly the situation in 3rd world county live in.
Inner city schools in a nutshell, firsthand experience.
Applies to poor everyone, not just blacks either.
I don't think most people understand that Gangsters Paradise isn't the street... Gangsters' Paradise is who put that street there... it isn't the hood or even who runs it.. Gangsters Paradise is about who OWNS IT.... he's the Master of Puppets...

This song is timeless
I was a teen when this track was at released & popular. It’s legendary. From the Dangerous Minds film.
I’m not a rap fan but, I love the early rappers like the Gap Band-and Coolio. This was the theme song for the movie “Dangerous Minds”. An excellent, heartbreaking movie.

It's from Dangerous Minds with Michelle Pfeiffer
Coolio sampled that chorus from Stevie Wonder's Pasttime Paradise (Songs in the Key of Life album) Great message in that song, too!
Coolio sampled Stevie's song from beginning to end only changing a few words.
Amazing song an great film !! Collio is one of the best!!
... SPECIAL SHOUT TO MR. L.V. (BIG RESPECT) / OLD SCHOOL REPRESENT / FUCK NEW SKOOL
You wont find a better hip hop song. This is as good as it gets. Its almost transcendent of rap entirely... very unique

This song is best rap classic in 90s
Music is all about discovering new experiences, no matter genre. Music is common denominator of creativity and talent!
Great assessment….it was really a deep song until this day. BTW this was on a soundtrack to a really big movie at the time.
Dangerous Minds was the movie =)
Welcome to Hip Hop at its Best.

I wonder how many lives and careers this song would have saved those days
Was in my late teens when this song first came out. One of my favourite songs from the 90's, and now my son loves this song too.

As you can see this was a song in a movie revolving around a teacher teaching misfits true story too
