I really miss Midland Mainline. It was a great TOC that put customer service first and didn’t care just about money. According to a member of the onboard crew, the free tea and coffee cost them up to £1m per year; but they kept it out of putting the customer first - gosh, I even remember sometimes getting my tea in an MML-branded paper bag! Things started going downhill when EMT took over… and as for EMR, what a shower.
the early days of privatisation had a mixed goody bag of all sorts, either consisted of ex BR employees who knew what they were doing (GNER, MML, Chiltern) or some that were as useful as a chocolate teapot (Connex, Silverlink). Not to mention the backdrop that is Railtrack - deary me!
I miss National Express Midland Mainline. It was the first privatised railway operator, as such as: GNER, Midland Mainline, Virgin (Cross Country and West Coast), Central Trains, Silverlink, Connex (Thameslink, Southern, etc.), SPL, Arriva, Stagecoach (Southwest Trains and Virgin), First (Great Western Railway, Northwestern, Hull, etc.), and so-fourth; that we all remember them like yesteryear and worship them till’ the day that we all die.
I was glad to get MML merchandise on the Marylebone to Banbury HST special on the 15th of March the journey was amazing and I love wearing the Stag hat too. MML was the best TOC since privertization after paying £30 to ride the HST special from Marylebone it was £30 well spent but my MML merchandise was more than the ticket again my money was well spent on that special HST journey
Not sure if anyone gives a damn but if you guys are stoned like me atm you can stream all of the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Have been binge watching with my girlfriend lately =)
HSTs are rare now but after catching one on Friday (15th march 2024 from Marylebone) the souvenirs are that is majority of midland mainline including a black hat with the MML stag that I wear like a Sikh with his turban. So when I go out I have no eye dear where I end up at on the London's railway network but my stag hat raised a few eyebrows at St Pancras wearing it
I have this on one of my beer mats that I brought on the 125 special from Marylebone on the 125 years of service of Marylebone station. The short lived Merlin livery of GWT era was just as good as as the Fag Packet livery on FGW HSTs
Out of all the liveries of this era, This was the second best in the country, the improvments internally were top class, the only thing better than Midland Mainlines was Anglia Railways iconic Turquiose & White Stripe livery.
MML had the worst branding imo. Nothing compared to how good GNER was. Beautiful colors and lettering with elegant stripes, plus a great name that pays homage to companies of old. MML just fell into a sort of 90s let’s put some stripes on it and it will be fine, just lacks imagination. The next livery was a million times better imo.
god I remember midland mainline ... growing up in the nineties, my mum took me to derby once ..all the Thameslink units were grey on the outside and.. everything about the service was just cringeworthy even for me back then.... //colours were garish, uniforms were awful

I love Midland Mainline. I used to work for them in the late 1990's. A great company overall. I liked the livery they had as well.
The first year I worked on MML. Loved the green bambi livery. Sad that it's all gone. I have my memories and my train mates still to reminisce with.
Everyone: more leg room.
MML: Best we can do is 3/4 inch

I have still got my mml green anorak. I loved that uniform the best. Good times at mml with the old crews.

I preferred the Swallow livery, even though the teal one was a nice alternative.

Love the IC Swallow livery. I think the silver Swallow and lettering are really picturesque.
Purely by chance my partner and I had the very last cups of tea on the very last MML train to run the day before it changed over. Sadly missed.
Intercity executive and GNER were my faves..
Well at least Midland Mainline actually valued their customer opinions!!
+nick higgins You can't say that about most current operators!
+Alasdair Clift all it is nowdays is money, money, money!
Certainly an eye catching livery, along with the then Great Western's "Merlin"

Arriva Crosscountry HST's have excellent liveires
Lol 3:06 when the man says a little bit dated and we have only just decided to dispose them
almost as if he's talking about the interior furnishing, not the train itself...
@ 3:58 - she's the life and soul of the party eh kids? By the way.... who applied her lipstick or did she go for the Hilda Ogden look jusfer laffs?
Green looks darker on this then I remmber.
Bring back midland mainline as mml was the best train company in the UK... :-)

The polyester uniforms look great! Really budget

OMG the 1990s were drab. I wasn’t a fan of the 1980s but I can see why people hold it in such high regard when you see what followed it.
The Era is over
Emr would never do this
NO TRAIN CREW ALLOWED IN ENGINEERING SHOP..... get out back down to the collection point and wait for your train there!!!
