First week drywalling by the end the boys said it’s great work. To be fair it may not fully translate %100 but I’ve done lots of masonry/parging. Just needed winter work!
Take a gander at this, and activate some of your mirror neurons, and you are a professional finisher in no time. Not really, but this guy was a godsend when I finished all the walls and ceilings on my second floor. The guy that bought the house told me that the painter couldn't believe I was an amateur, probably took 4 times as long for me, compared to a professional.
I absolutely love you. You are the best dry Waller and if it wasn't for you. I would have never been able to do my house. you're a wonderful teacher. Keep up the good work, and I'm glad you do these UA-cam videos.❤
I think a proper video on developing the side swipe method with the 6 inch would be helpful. I can't do it, but I see it used for this and screw holes.
Definitely takes some practice but it’s way faster for screw holes for sure. I don’t do a lot of drywall but I spent the last job I did just practicing this and I’m glad I did!
I'm not in this trade at all. In fact, I'm a painter (cabinetry doors/drawer fronts, man doors etc...) but I LOVE watching this guy work lol. Indeed makes it look super easy. Very satisfying to listen and watch
@neil1820 Weed is called "joint filler" in some UK circles. Not that anyone is wondering. Also, joint filler is labeled "joint filler" or "drywall compound in the USA, but colloquially called "mud". Much love from the States. 🙃
Yes every joint. Because over time the mud alone will crack, and the paper hides and can even prevent the crack. Mesh is easier but isn't as good as paper tape. Drywall and mud are weak without paper.
Can you please clear up whether you are using fast set mud or all purpose "air dried" mud? I thought you had a video recently that showed all purpose mud will shrink and cause gaps underneath. Thanks! Great work per usual.
All purpose is better for tape because it has glue in it to help it stick. Fast set for prefill, screw holes and build up areas. After this step there's still a couple more rounds of coating with easy sand all purpose.
Thin your mud way down and apply it to the corner with either a lambswool corner roller (Drywall specialty tool) or a heavy wallpaper brush. 10x faster than a knife and the looser mud will suck the tape to the wall as it sets up .
Honest question... Why do you use paper tape instead of mesh? Every single joint I've seen where they've used paper tape has bubbled up over time and needed to be redone. Those who I've met who redo the work will only ever use mesh. So is there a benefit to paper?
This is way harder than it looks. I can prefill pretty good and getting the tape on isn’t too bad. The heard part is adding the coats after and making it look nice.
I guess it doesn't matter since your just using hand tools, but we usually do the flats first then the angles, it looks neater and the corner tools are les likely to get hung up at the joints.
I am not a pro like this guy. I sprayed the corners with 3M spray adhesive and then stuck up the paper tape. Worked really well. 3M adhesive dries in 1 minute. Didn't work so well on the ceiling flats though because of gravity. Pulled the tape down in the middle of the joint. Still worked, just not as well.
I think he did a video on it, and the answer was no. Which makes sense to me because if you've moistened the tape it can't soak up the mud the same way so it won't have as strong a bond
I need opinions. PAPER TAPE VS. FIBER FUSE. I love me some fiber fuse Also. I wanted to know if it's a useful to lightly damping your paper tape prior to applying.
I was told at some point that I should dip the tape in water (and wipe off the excess). I think it makes sure the paper doesn't dry out the mud too quickly. Any thoughts?
Why didnt you us 54 inch sheets? You have a bevel near the ceiling. Im still waiting to see you do some carpentry. Biscuits. Mitres. Dovetails? Fingerjoints. Anything?
Need to make sure you don’t leave too much excess mud under it otherwise it will bubble also don’t make your dry wall soup it should have a thick consistency
You are a very gifted teacher my friend! You walk through the steps visually, provide the “why” in everything you do, and provide great verbal queues as you go! 👏🏽👏🏽
He makes it look way easier than it truly is. It's a skilled craft, this man is an artisan.
This is pure bodge. From an English plasterer.
This is below average mudding. If he was on a drywall crew he would the weakest link on the crew.
Looks like we got some kooks popping up in the replies here. Watch out y’all, they’re coming for you.
What negativity. Why even comment?
@@Bryan-wq1ng because there is too many people posting diy videos and don't have a clue what they are doing
I've literally learned drywall watching all his videos.
No u haven’t lmao
I have a drywall repair business and literally learned everything from UA-cam mainly this man

Same I watch the full video like 8 times then proceeded to fuck up like 4 walls before it started to make sense
I'm a longtime drywall finisher of 25+ years, and I find myself learning tricks from you.
i like how step one is the assumption that you did a prefill

Well you need that muscle memory too. But knowing what you're doing is the first step!
I feathered the like button.
You must be a pro, I gouged it...
I left enough mud on it for the next 38 people

I just finished a rental unit and a drywall and mud guy came in he was amazing it is such an amazing skill
Best drywall tutor on the internet hands down
Excellent teacher. Simple, directions. Simple explanations. Done.
Thank you! 😃
These videos are incredibly helpful. Thank you!

exactly, the side swipe is the most important thing dude is doing so it should be demonstrated
I agree. I've learned a lot of tricks from him over the years. But that's one I can't seem to master.

Finally, using the right JOINT COMPOUND,,ALL PURPOSE COMPOUND,,,,,,NOT EASY SAND,THANK YOU
My dad would always have us 45 the paper for the corner first before running the tape out.
👏The sound / flatting tape is crispy and the corner looking so gorgeous👍
So thankful for these videos!
This will be me next weekend! Lol
@tonyp2865 absolutely! I am a horrible mess with it. Lol
@@jonathanlee7355 I did it for 40 years and came home every day filthy.
Thanks for your step by step lesson
on taping !l
I've had a renovation company before and that's how you tape! Quick simple and not going over your joint multiple times.
In the corner, you need to end the tape with a pointy form. It help avoiding extra thickness of tapes.
Correct
You forgot to cut the end at an angle creating a arrow so your next corner tape doesn't overlap so it's easier to cover
Wow, when even the know-it-alls praise you, you must know what you're doing!
super skilled to make it look so easy
Sweet...thanks again bud...if you ever come to Manitoulin let me know
Mud is called joint filler in the UK in case you were wondering.
Wasn't

He makes it look so easy
Trust me , I always go to the end of my joint!
I always wipe my bottom first too !
Dumb question, but why must the joints be taped, and does this need to be done for every joint where 2 pieces of drywall come together?
Yes every joint. Because over time the mud alone will crack, and the paper hides and can even prevent the crack. Mesh is easier but isn't as good as paper tape. Drywall and mud are weak without paper.

Bro..he just makes it look so easy
after doing what you did I hit it with a corner trowel. I've run into problems of tape not bonded otherwise
Thin your mud way down and apply it to the corner with either a lambswool corner roller (Drywall specialty tool) or a heavy wallpaper brush. 10x faster than a knife and the looser mud will suck the tape to the wall as it sets up .
I think it's just practice and getting an even spread under the tape with enough mud left under that it can bond and not dry out while still wiping.
You are awesome!
Great job teaching shorts
I like the mud roller
I appreciate it boss
I like the guy with the roller

Paper tape, done correctly, hides easier and makes a joint less likely to bump the wall. Usually peeling tape means a bad taper
hi good evening great job
Well done
This is way harder than it looks. I can prefill pretty good and getting the tape on isn’t too bad. The heard part is adding the coats after and making it look nice.
Thank You!!!
That IS the bare bones, from a beginner
Exactly the way I see it. He looks like he has the skill of a handyman not a pro
I guess it doesn't matter since your just using hand tools, but we usually do the flats first then the angles, it looks neater and the corner tools are les likely to get hung up at the joints.
Use a corner roller for the paper tapes dip the roller into the tub of filler and slap it on 😊
It's almost that easy, just takes a lot of patience and practice to look that simple. For beginners, I recommend a corner knife.
Smooth!!!

Do you over lap the paper? Left right vertical?
In the UK paper tape in corners fail, don't know way but I have repaired many, never had to repair fibre tape
What’s the reason for even doing the ceiling? And why use the tape for it? Also would you be able to see the tape after all is done?
Then another coat on top right after, no?
mannnn this dood makes it look easy … so much so i tried to patch a yuuuge hole in ceiling and it turned out like shit … saved 800 bucks tho :)
DRYWALL MASTER IF THE UNIVERSE!!!
AAAAAARRRRRGGHH!!!!!
Mister George I think you got a good one this time we have to keep this one
Do a outside corner with tape video
Careful, metal trowels can slice paper tape if angled incorrectly.
I’m just a painter here no experience in dry wall, so just this a good sanding and cleanup and it’s ready for paint?
"It has a crease in the middle for a reason" lol
What do you use in the corners when you have a wall but on the other wall you have tile. How do you seal that corner?
Feather edges no hard lines sanding tape is for homeowners
Gracias
should the paper be pre-moistened? thanks for the great videos
I think he did a video on it, and the answer was no. Which makes sense to me because if you've moistened the tape it can't soak up the mud the same way so it won't have as strong a bond
How long do you wait before you apply coat on the tape? Couple of hours or just depend on the hot mud you used?
I have absolutely no reason to drywall anything but I'm intrigued. Why do you use the tape? Like what does it add that the mud doesn't have?
When do you use a tray or a hawk?
Is there a situation where mesh tape would be better or worse to use
Gotta put that ripper down low love these vids just busting balls
I need opinions. PAPER TAPE VS. FIBER FUSE.
I love me some fiber fuse
Also. I wanted to know if it's a useful to lightly damping your paper tape prior to applying.
I actually have videos on both subjects. If you search those topics with vancouver carpenter in the search you should find it
@@vancouvercarpenter will do👍
after you do that what are you supposed to do? it needs more mud doesn't it? how long do you wait until you add more?
How come you didn't use the lambs wool corner roller?
ASMR and a tutrorial😎👍👍🙏🙏
Why do you always wipe the bottom first, any particular reason?
Never use all purpose compound for anything unless its the final coate . Base coate or cornice cement
Any tips on doing long length sections thank
Get a banjo
Corner tool! = EASIER!
I was told at some point that I should dip the tape in water (and wipe off the excess). I think it makes sure the paper doesn't dry out the mud too quickly. Any thoughts?
Wetting the tape first will end up making a weak bond with the mud. You'll have cracks, usually a lot faster.
Just a light spray of water once tape is on is good
I used a roller to apply thinned downed mud much faster
What about that round roller brush....
You make it look so easy! LOL, my corners :/
Do you overlap your tape in corners
Why didnt you us 54 inch sheets? You have a bevel near the ceiling. Im still waiting to see you do some carpentry. Biscuits. Mitres. Dovetails? Fingerjoints. Anything?
Can you use mesh tape or no?
I could add a few tricks ta make it easier on ya but im an old second generation taper and im not in the video
Ben, you said all purpose mud.
Is it ok to use durabond for taping?
You can but the adhesion is not quite as good. Still works though.
Interesting. I've never prefilled 🤷♂️
I gave up on paper tape. Maybe my mud was too wet. It would always bubble up later when I would com back to add more mud and just be a mess.
When you bubble after the drywall mud drys is because you have no mud under the tape.
Need to make sure you don’t leave too much excess mud under it otherwise it will bubble also don’t make your dry wall soup it should have a thick consistency
They you later go back and mud over it right?
Remember kids, always wipe the bottom first 😆
Essa fita que ele usou tem que molhar antes de usar ela, depois começa sair bolha no teto pq ela vai se soltando 😅
I’ve watched several videos, and I am a taper ………..does anybody own a three inch knife to tape the inside corners? Way better for future coats
tear the corner while folded at a 45 degree .that way you dont have tape layers build up.
Why do you think they make new kind of dry wall tape? I'll give you one Ideal
What happened to your roller?
Is there something wrong with me, I’ve been using a corner trowel all my life ???
A lot of bad habits learn to tape with a 4" knife
