    Consider a 1" piece of flagstone for under the fireplace with brick or corrugated metal backed by course firestop fiberglass for the side and back. The brick is first choice for thermal mass and fireproofing but the corrugated metal would be easier and more cost effective. You can sandwich the firestop fiberglass between two pieces and cap it with a metal channel for trim.
    I've been in a burning building. I'm a little nervous about having a firebox so close to your bedding.

    I somehow stumbled on this series in part 2. I am hooked, and this build is looking awesome. The black trim, stainless hardware, and white van base are clean, keep this up. Learning as you go is becoming a lost art. The music is better than some department stores. Fantastic content.

    Great work, very inspiring..
    Just a suggestion
    Around the water tank you may want to leave a slightly bigger gap or put some foam there because I think that water tank when filled will bulge at the side and may cause it to rub against the plywood..🍺

    Enjoying following your progress. One idea, take some scrap wood or door skin, like 1/16 in panel wood and cut strips about one inch wide like popsicle stick ( but longer) and then hot glue them together to form a pattern or template when your trying figure hard cut like the one between the bed and kitchen cabinet. I also think you could have cut a lot of your metal and van wall cuts with a Diablo Steel Demon metal cutting saw blade for your circular saw, instead of a grinder wheel. Love watching and how you do it on the fly. I think with every van build there will be changes and just getting started will help you work out what works and your finish project.

    When it comes to your desk. You should make it to where you can latch it up against the wall while not in use. I watch a lot of tiny house builds. And that's the common build they do. It gives you space when you're not using it. You can also make it different sizes. As well as a folding chair or whatever. You can make a latch that holds it against the wall and the table folds up or down on top of it and latches. Im not sure if you are putting a flat screen tv in there. They have mounts for rvs that you can mount it on and swivel it where ever you are in the rv. For around the opening of the cab. They have a protective foam or rubber that covers all your imperfections. If you decide to put something behind the fire stove. If seen people put a reflective metal panel behind it to protect the wall of the truck box.

    You’re gonna want to do a good hot burn in on that wood stove before you permanently install it. I’d do it with charcoal because all of the manufactures recommended burning in periods seem to still leaves them smelling a little bit like burning plastic / cheap high heat paint anytime you have a fire hotter then the initial burn.

    • @shadymaint1
      @shadymaint1 3 місяці тому

      I build a wood stove out of a 55 drum. Before I installed it in the garage I put it out in the yard and built a HOT fire in it. Parts of it were glowing orange. Its been in use for over 20 years now and I've never had any off gassing from it. There is not one spec of paint left on it. It all burnt off in the initial burn.

    Looking really good so far. What about putting the fireplace stack out the side wall as high as possible. That would basically make it as high as the roof line. Might look better than 45ing over the bed. I personally prefer less holes on the roof if possible. Safe building! :)

      @vanlifemeow 90s are done a lot on cabins. Could use a longer 90 for more of a sweep. Or even use a flexible pipe to create the exact curve you want. No matter what build what makes you happy. That is what matters the most. It's looking like a great build so far.

    As you said your shower is open with a curtain. You should add a foldable counter extension on the side so you have prep space.
