Here’s a brief history of the microwave or “radarange”.The microwave was actually invented accidentally in 1946 by Percy Spencer. They tried selling it in 1947 but it was too expensive. Then they tried again in 1955 but again it failed to sell. Finally in 1967 it started successfully being sold when Amana introduced the first countertop version. By the late 1970’s it became more affordable for everyone to buy.

I have a retro refrigerator and a retro radio 📻 in my salon which is a house that was built in the 1940’s that’s been converted to a salon. I plan on getting a retro “microwave” soon.
My fav style is the 50's. I'd love to have all pink large appliances. Or I'd be happy w blue , or yellow. To compromise w my husband I'd go w white. In my house that was built in 1953, we still have our 2 bathrooms in pink & blue tile (LOVE THAT) & my white 1950's cabinets in my kitchen (LOVE THAT) I have all stainless steal large appliances now in my kitchen (HATE THAT) but like U said marriage is all about compromise :( LOL!
Hi donna! I agree, pink appliances would be adorable, but most husbands would never go for that, lol! I love the 50’s colors, especially those little tiles. That’s neat your house has some originals. The house I grew up in had the original pink tiles in my bathroom with little purple accents. Loved it! 💕
A Smeg fridge over freezer is a dream.
Also...forgot to mention I still have the original 1950's Crystal Chandelier in my dinning room that was put there when the house was built in 1953.......LOVE IT :)

Thanks Stacy! It occurred to me that we really don’t vlog much in the garage so we probably never showed the fridge, which I still love! I truly wish we had a place for it in the house, sigh. I think my grandparents had a microwave before we did, and it had a dial instead of buttons, ha ha!

I love ❤ all vintage appliances from the past. I love colors and all modern are usually all white. I also love ❤ colored tiles. Makes me feel cheerful 😊

Thanks Cheryl! Oh we love the Amazon wish lists! Everyone in our family has a list, and they are SO helpful at Christmastime or birthdays to see what people actually want. It's also good just to keep up with items you are considering purchasing while you think about it.

We had one of those refrigerators in the basement still when we moved back here 10 years ago. It wasn’t a big chill though. It was authentic. That is a cute little microwave

I saw and just came across the big chill fridge today on the internet. I am definitely considering it. We have 3 Retro Nostalgia small appliances in our kitchen. A Microwave, A Toaster Oven and a Toaster. All Turqoise Blue. Let me know if I should still consider the Big Chill Fridge. I'm in Pennsylvania though. A shame thie company is in Colorado.

I absolutely love these retro appliances!!! I’m in the market for one of the fridges & would love to try the Jadeite color!!! I’ll probably go white though...& very possibly a vent hood. Thanks for a good presentation of both of these companies! I love the SMEG brand and I’m glad to know they are much smaller than the BIG CHILL brand. I did not know that!!
