This sweet 145-square-foot kitchen in Piedmont, California, “is meant to be on the humble side,” says architect Robert Kelly. “Ninety-five percent of us live in small kitchens, and this kitchen has everything we need and want. Almost all magazine kitchens are large kitchens, but they really aren’t what most of us have room for or need.” Here’s how Robert and his wife Ronna got their kitchen remodel right. - Навчання та стиль

FINALLY!! Folks (and their architect) who loves the house and pays homage to it in a major renovation! It's absolutely STUNNING!! No cookie-cutter kitchen HERE!!!
I LOVE that in the end she says that the kitchen is big enough (didn't need to make it bigger) That is such a rare disposition nowdays.. and what a charming, well done renovation!
Love that you kept the old and that the dog gets to be in the middle!
Love this kitchen much more than the modern gigantic ones. Practical, functional, tons of light! Very good taste.
I love the fact they kept the character of the house instead of ripping all the beauty of the old homes. And happy to see that we're not the only household with a live dog on the middle of the floor. Lol
I love your philosophy on renovating it. I hate when people modernize these gems.
I have come back and watched this video a few times these years. It is my favorit kitchen because they treasured and respected the old charm. They didnt do what everyone does and blow all the walls out to make open space. Also my own kitchen is an exact replica of the kitchen space, the outside door, window and inside doorway, so this really helped me see potential in my own home, thank you!
He says: I'm a architect.
Me: no you're Tom Cruise.
That stove is cool. It adds character.
I have three or four Houzz videos that I watch over and over, and this is one of them. I love that they stayed true to the soul and age of the house and didn't make it all sleek and modern! I really love the stove, too.
Okay, this video, OF COURSE the $400 laundry room video - what are the other two?
I'm so thankful that you kept the history of the house. It kills me to see Victorian homes or older homes with modern elements such as the recessed lighting and new windows. It actually breaks my heart , so thank you, thank you.
What beautiful modifications they've made. I really appreciate that they only removed the walls that were necessary for their project and kept the rest up. It's really great hearing the perspective from a trained architect on how he envisioned the space and the materials he used. Really great video.
Oh man that is gorgeous. I love vintage houses.
Fantastic to see to see the owners work with the original footprint of the house.
Such a lovely homely family kitchen, the space is so cute and it's got character that is lacking in so many remodelling projects these days
that house is my dream! love it all-including the tin can lid patch!!!
Love this kitchen and the fact that the character of the home was important to the homeowners. It's a charming space with arches. Glad they didn't destroy the character by knocking out the walls. The stove and windows were great finds. Glad they kept the tin can floor patch.
I love that they left the vintage charm of the home intact! I scream inside when I see old houses gutted and modernized, with none of it's original beauty left behind.
A very nice renovation, classic, respects the character of the era.
Finally! A family who appreciates the original style & character of a house that’s 100 years old.
Reminds me of the Spanish Revival homes in Los Angeles, CA or anywhere in CA built during the 1920’s.
Love this! I really love the idea of preserving the original character and respecting the original architecture of a home! You see so much of the generic open-concept-kinda renovations where people just rip all the walls and also the good vibes out of their homes! Open-concept is also not very practical since it eliminates privacy and all other possibilities of having cozy nooks and archways and all of the different moments you can experience within an older house! People just end up living in square boxes that aren't particularly interesting or homey. The popular trend of opening it all up for the sake of entertaining overlooks the fact that people actually spend the majority of their time at home just living by themselves/with their closest family.
I love how this reno turned out! Especially love the butlers pantry with that amazing skylight-moment
Love the tall cabinets, the simple clock on the wall and I just love seeing families.
There were tin can lid patches in the hardwood floors in my childhood home. 😁♥️
Love mixing new with the old and leaving the architectural details and character of the home. Reminds me of the Garden District homes. Being conservative and making it classy and functional. Love it!
Nicely done. I really like it. so many times kitchens don't fit with the house. This kitchen looks like it's always been there.
Big enough and opposed to just being bigger. I love that concept
LOVE the charm of this old home. Beautiful!
Wow, I love everything about this kitchen! It’s great that they took care to respect the original time period and architecture of the house. Not only is it beautiful and homey (with modern functionality), but it will never really look dated, as many “modern” kitchens inharmoniously stuck into older homes inevitably will. With the high cost of kitchens, who wants to do a major renovation every time the trends change?
Oh, l really love your kitchen and the way you kept it simple and in style with the rest of your home! I’m so glad you kept the “Tin Can” repair patch! The Butler’s Pantry with the skylight!
Really nicely done! Perfect blending of old and new. Finally people that understand that the refrigerator shouldn't stick a foot into the room. Bravo!
Glad they kept the breakfast room, that's a very sweet space.
THIS! This is how you do a “modern” kitchen in an old house. They’ve done a great job of maintaining the charm and character of the original house while making the kitchen modern and functional for a young family. It’s great to see thoughtful and intentional renovations in old houses.
We’re about to start a kitchen renovation and hope to do the same thing to our 1928 Tudor Revival cottage. We’re putting in all new cabinetry and floors in the space but sticking to classic finishes and shaker doors that nod to the 1920’s.
I’ve seen so many kitchen remodels and this is definitely one of the best.
"our kitchen seems big enough". beautiful!
What a charming home. A retro frig (in a pumpkin color like your sweater) would look great in this kitchen for a pretty pop! of color. But, the home is lovely just as it is. Very inviting.
He looks like tom Cruz
A great renovation that retains the character of the house. My daughter uses quartz countertops that look like Carrera marble in her flips. It has the aesthetic without the disadvantage of marble.
i absolutely love this kitchen! it's clean & beautiful.
I absolutely love your kitchen!!! It speaks to my heart. :)
Reminds me so much of my grandmother's home in Long Beach CA. Good job.
Really like this kitchen. But also have always liked 1920’s homes.
I love your kitchen feels homey and looks beautiful.
Thank you for not doing open concept or greatly enlarging the footprint. Love the stove, the hidden microwave, and of course the can in the floor. 👍👌👏
I love the redo! I adore the stove, the tin can lid, the butlers pantry...the ceiling color, the dog, the cabinets, oh, and the hubby.
Check out the subway tile back-splash, they're tilted, AND in a herringbone pattern.
I love old houses; you did a fabulous job.
Love the stove and the butlers pantry and ceilings!!!
Love how you kept the period look.
LOVE old homes. I love the homes of Pleasant Ridge and Palmer Woods, Michigan.
there's not an Inch which I DON'T LOVE!
What a CONSIDERATE and RESPECTFUL remodel- probably one of the VERY BEST I've seen. Everything appears to have never been any other way- EVER!
I love old cabinets.
I like the house on the outside and what they did on the interior. People can live without OPEN concept and a HUGE island. I would have vetoed the old stove for a new one though. Love the breakfast nook and all the light!
Amen! Absolutely love this - keeping to the original style and architecture of the home.
A wonderful family with a great respect for beautiful old homes. But wow, they even let the old dog plop right in the middle of the floor! Loved it all.
Beautiful! I love the size of the kitchen, and the smart use of space!
Lovely renovation, very well done. I for one would never be able to live in the past. It's nice to look at, but I want full modernity in my kitchen.
Love this kitchen update!!!
I have a 1948 O Keffe & Merrit stove too! This kitchen was in my inspiration photos for my kitchen. I wish I could attach a photo of my stove and hood for y'all..
This kitchen is so unique and quaint and yet incredibly functional. What a lovely home! 💕
i should have married an architect.
Wow, I love the way you redid your kitchen. It's perfect!
I love this transformation. The footprint looks so original and yet it’s very functional and beautiful in design
Love the home, tin can cover, stove and all. Beautiful
Absolutely love what you did and what you didn't do. I like to see you guys and the kids (and the dog) all in there and relishing what you have and not bemoaning what you don't have, which is a huge cavernous kitchen that wears you out just walking from one side to the other around an island as big as a kingsized bed! Kudos on your charming kitchen and your family togetherness!!
Just a gorgeous renovation!
I love everything about this. I bet the rest of the house has character, too.
So beautiful! I love your paint choices too.
Love this! And what sweet people :) I think they are as refreshing as their kitchen. Great job on the details and I love the open feeling from the windows and skylight. Bravo!
I adore this kitchen!!! ❤️❤️❤️
What a lovely family and love their space, esp. how it fits in with the rest of the house.
I love what you did with your kitchen. It's beautiful! :)

Really charming. I love your kitchen and its great personality.
Love it! Crazy about that stove and the large china cabinet.
SO inviting. Just lovely. I'm charmed. Love from San Diego, CA.
