I knew the original Bullseye would be on here. I was just watching an old TPIR episode where it was first played, and it was brutal. It's basically The Clock Game if you only had exactly seven guesses to win an item, and no time clock. There was no realistic way you could win a car that way, even at early 1970s prices.
Professor Price could have worked if the questions weren't general knowledge questions. For example, they pick any spot to reveal a number, then they are shown a prize with 2 prices, they try to guess the correct price. If right, then they have to decide which number from that price goes to the car. If they pick the right number and the right spot the price goes in.
6:13 It also wasn't fair because there was no showcase showdown. They determined who got into the showcase but how much amount of prizes you won. So you win that game your in the showcase.
"Hurdles" should have made the cut as a retired game, due to mechanical difficulties. There were six products; the contestant had to pick a product that was less priced than the price the hurdler was using (say, a can of yams for $.88) and the contestant picked a Krackel bar. If the Krackel bar was $.59,the hurdle was successful. If the hurdler was succesful all three times, the contestant won a large prize.
I remember It's Optional. It reminds me of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor......."
Mystery Price was way ahead of its time and should have had a chance to resurface on Dennis James' nighttime version. Sadly, it never had that chance, retired before it ever happened.
The first Bullseye is basically The Clock Game with just seven bids and no clock. Double Bullseye is like the Showcase Showdown, or like Bill Cullen's The Price is Right.
You forgot one--IT'S OPTIONAL. I remember watching this one a few times and Bob Barker's explanation of the rules made that game so convoluted and a bit difficult to enjoy.
I've seen old episodes with It's Optional, it's actually pretty interesting to see what was once considered optional in a car, like AM/FM radio, air conditioning, and power steering. I was many years away from driving when it aired, so I wouldn't really know what cars had to offer compared to today. The idea of air conditioning being optional is mind blowing.
Hi MSX the Balance Game is still played on the Drew Carry version it has a new name don't remember it off hand but it has a giant scale and they have like 5 or 6 pretend bags of money you win the bags and have to choose the right bags to balance the scale ⚖️ the Finish Line is also still played but repackaged as the Rat Race snd it's a fun game
I think shower game could have worked if it had different rules, 1 stall had the car, 1 stall had money, 2 stalls had confetti, & 1 stall had water. If you picked the stall that had water, the game was automatically over. If you picked a stall that had confetti, the game continued if you won more than 1 stall. If you picked the stall that had the car or money, the game ended. You could win 4 stalls and 4 small prizes.
As long as it didn't have showers. The biggest issue was the shower mechanic because it reminded people of the Holo * cau * st. I've seen a comment on another video that some of the game mechanics could be retooled as a chest of drawers where the contestant had to find a car key and avoid a fake snake. I think this idea could work with spring loaded cans too (prank "snake cans") where one would release the word CAR and a key, some would release money, some would release confetti, and one would release the fake snake.
“Gas Prices” needs to hit the road. If you guess the right price of a car, you lose the car plus the money you accumulated for guessing the wrong prices.
Add em up might have worked if they didn't insist it be for a car. Mystery Price I've always thought could be re-tooled. Instead of the goal being the amount of a prize, why not make it an announced amount? And use bids for prizes you'd see on Most Expensive or other multi-prize games, and have it played for both the prizes and the cash earned in the bank if you cover the top amount. It'd be one of the rare Cash-MPGs since one of my other favorite failed games, Fortune Hunter.
What about Blank Check, or the Check Game? That one was really difficult to explain to many contestants, mainly because they couldn’t understand that they had to think of how much the price of the prize was, then add an amount to that price they’re thinking of so it totaled say, $5,000, then write out the check for the added amount. Many contestants were confused by that, and who writes checks anymore?
@@machoman1016Also premiered on Season 19 was the large green The Price Is Right price tag with different font styling than the original TPIR logo, a different price down symbol that could never replace the original as well as a shoelace style tie on the left side where the hole used to be. This would last longer than all of its TPIR giant price tag stylings before or since.
Should retire Easy As 1-2-3 (I called it “Difficult As 1-2-3”). It has been at least 20 playings of record of losses, and it is winless during the previous season. They should also retire Danger Price, and Take Two, which are awful for prizes that is other then playing for a car.

if prof price caused nightmares, youre pretty pathetic.
ive never had nightmares seeing anything on tv...BECAUSE IT IS *ON TV*!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just had a thought: Professor Price reminds me of Gene Shalit of The Today Show.
Or a Johnny Olsen rip off.

I think that add em up would have worked for a different show but it did not fit into TPIR
Honorable mentions: It's Optional (a classic) and more recent pricing games like Clearance Sale and Step Up.
He’s mentioning games that were short lived. Those lasted longer
I remember It's Optional. It reminds me of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor......."
I still think Mystery Price was good.
Mystery Price was way ahead of its time and should have had a chance to resurface on Dennis James' nighttime version. Sadly, it never had that chance, retired before it ever happened.
Bullseye the pricing game is still played today!! I saw the game a couple of Days ago!! The person won the game!!🎉😊
Today's version of Bullseye is a different games from the ones on this list.
The first Bullseye is basically The Clock Game with just seven bids and no clock. Double Bullseye is like the Showcase Showdown, or like Bill Cullen's The Price is Right.
I have to say, the fact that only one of these games debuted during the Sandler era speaks to the quality of the people around him.
You forgot one--IT'S OPTIONAL. I remember watching this one a few times and Bob Barker's explanation of the rules made that game so convoluted and a bit difficult to enjoy.
Before Triple Play, this was a very exciting game. I call BS.
Didn't forget it. It was on the air for a good five years so it didn't qualify for this list.
It’s Optional wasn’t bad. I’m guessing they ditched it because it gave away 2 cars.
@@friedchickenicedteaIDK. Triple play for 3 cars?! I think that is a bit ridiculous.
I understood there were also concerns from the Jewish community about Shower Game reminding them of the holocaust. Was that true or not?
It was true.
I watched old episodes of the Price is Right from over 50 years ago on Bullseye. That game was terrible because nobody won it.

This feels like it's a reupload from an older video.
It's an updated older video with better video and sound quality, I'm probably going to be doing several of these in coming weeks.
Where is Fortune Hunter? Did it make the list of 15 failed pricing games in The Price is Right history?
Honorable Mentions on failed pricing games: Super Saver and Buy or Sell.
They need to get rid of games like 3 Strikes and Stack The Deck due to their win ratio NOT counting Pay The Rent because of it's inactivity.
A lot of these games I never even heard of.
You have to commend the producers of the show for trying new things at least.

I thought Gallery Game was a bit interesting. They should of kept it going.
“Gas Prices” needs to hit the road. If you guess the right price of a car, you lose the car plus the money you accumulated for guessing the wrong prices.
You mean Gas Money.
Add em up might have worked if they didn't insist it be for a car.

I never liked Fortune Hunter, even though it wasn’t mentioned on your list.
Funny enough, this was originally a Top 20, and Fortune Hunter was number 16.
@@markscapino What were numbers 17, 18, 19, and 20?
@@markscapinoI loved Fortune Hunter, but I think it kinda morphed into Half Off.
I liked Add em up cuz i liked math
I liked on the nose cuz i love sports
Balance game & Walk of fame was ok but didn't last long
Telephone game could be retooled with today's smart phones
I liked Add em up and Bullseye!

Might not be a great game, but I wouldn't consider it a failure. It has been around for 40 years. The games on this list were very short lived.
Yeah, but that one's still in use. Scapino was only detailing those that are prematurely retired.
Gallery Game retired Penny Ante in 1990. In turn, Penny Ante retired Gallery Game in 1991.
Gallery Game was promoted as 1 of many pricing games to premiere in season 19 (spoilers it was the ONLY pricing game to premiere in season 19 😆).
@@machoman1016Also premiered on Season 19 was the large green The Price Is Right price tag with different font styling than the original TPIR logo, a different price down symbol that could never replace the original as well as a shoelace style tie on the left side where the hole used to be. On the spot sucks.
I agree. It belongs on Nickelodeon's GUTS.
Yeah, it does. I liked Hole In One (Or Two) better.

I liked Danger Price in my option.
i cant do add it up no way i am not good at math
The shower game seemed too reminiscent of the gas showers in the Holocaust.
They need to get rid of That's too Much and Rat Race.
I'm surprised the Price Is Right is still on considering Drew Carey is not as popular as Bob Barker.
It's still the most watched show on Daytime TV by leaps and bounds. CBS would be foolish to mess with it at this point.
its the games and prizes that make people watch.. not the host
