Although prior to 2014 on the daytime version with drew carey which it was never won on daytime version, the prime time Drew Carey version however did indeed have a golden road win aired on March 7th, 2008 when they gave away a $87,910 viper.

Golden Road also kicked off the first ever hourlong TPIR on Sept. 8, 1975. They were celebrating TPIR's 3rd anniversary on CBS and they wanted to start that in a huge way.

But it wasn't until November 3, 1975 (my birthday!), that the show permanently expanded to an hour. I remember back then, neither CBS affiliate in my viewing area was scheduled to carry the show, at least not at its appointed hour (10:00 a.m., in my area). The Boston affiliate (WNAC-TV, Channel 7 at the time) was scheduled to air a sitcom rerun, followed by a half-hour talk show. Well, came 11/3, and I decided to tune in anyway, at least I'd enjoy a good laugh. Was I surprised to discovered that my TV Guide was wrong, and TPIR came on! What a great "birthday surprise"!

Ah, Golden Road. Probably one of the greatest and biggest TPiR games. Again, wins are rare, but very exciting when they do happen.

Depends on what one considers a win. They always make the first prize a rather easy decision, as the player had to choose between two numbers for the first digit in the price -- a low digit, and a higher one. So, unless one was really, really stupid about prices, a player was all but guaranteed to at least win SOMETHING. At least half of the time, players would win the first two prizes, so even if they didn't win the grand prize, they still did well.

The 9/88 entrance was the first time Bob made an alternative entrance. I think it was the intent to have Bob come around the turntable rather than through the audience. As you stated, he didn’t like doing it, I think that’s when he started coming through the audience which he did like to do.

I wish they'd save those "Special Reports for the noon news. They can cut into stories about fossil findings and dinosaur mishaps instead of "The Price is Right. Have a good laugh.

September 14, 1988, Bob enters from the turntable, Hole in One/or Two is the first pricing game of that episode and Betty White does the inspiration putt.

    Thank you !
In fact, since 2009, they no longer offered motorhomes and cabin cruisers, after they brought back the foreign luxury/standard cars to the show.
    Another fact: Winning limits caps.
1972-1984: Cars were valued between $10,000 to $20,000 even during the nighttime syndicated version with Bob Barker on CBS O&O's. (It never played during Dennis James era on NBC O&O's.
    1984-1986: $20,000 to $40,000
Except with Tom Kennedy (Nighttime Syndicated on most NBC O&Os).
In fact a Ferrari 308 GTS at $60,370 was offered, but was lost.
    1987-1989 more then $30,000
    1990-2006 more then $45,000
And now since 2006, no more limits caps.

Golden Road may have been inspired by another unrelated game show, "(The New) Treasure Hunt" which was notorious for given away or offering 5 digit vehicles as early as 1973 and the most expensive they ever given away during its 4 year run was a vintage Rolls Royce vehicle. The contestant that won that car fainted and was even talked about in at least one of Chuck Barris' novels.

  • @docadams7099
    @docadams7099 2 роки тому +2

Actually,it is misleading to say there was a 7-year period in which "Golden Road" was not won. The reason is that there are two prizes a contestant has to win to get to the grand prize. The first is a prize with 3 digits in the price, then (if a contestant wins that) the second prize that has 4 digits in its price. If the contestant wins both of the first two prizes, the play for the big one. And, once they win a prize in this game, they keep it no matter what. So, in this seven-year span, contestants often won the first 2 prizes and just not the game's grand prize.

    • @markscapino

I appreciate your attention to detail, but there is nothing wrong with what I said because the idea of a win-loss on this show is so subjective. While technically, yes, people win *something* with the first two prizes, it's really the grand prize that counts towards what statistics sites would consider a win or loss (which is where I get my data from). A good example is "Money Game." That game technically has a 100% win rate because a contestant will win the money or the car. Same can be said about Any Number. Like I said, the idea is very subjective, but I think at some point, we just have to stop this participation trophy nonsense, and just say they won or they lost.

Actually, even after the show expanded to an hour, CBS ran half-hour "TPIR"s on daytime when the network aired the "Pillsbury Bake-Off".

Yup, and there was no Showcase Showdown on those half-hour presentations, the two highest winners went to the Showcase, just like when the show first came on in 1972.
