On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 7-23-20.
We're looking at a 1958 Buick Limited Convertible in Black Paint. The car comes with the factory V8 engine.
The car's Owner is Ken Nagel. Ken’s had this car since 2010. He shares details on this car that looks “showroom” new. Ken shared there were less than 900 Buick Limited Convertibles produced. The car has so much Chrome I’ve nick named it “The Chrome King”.
If you'd like to see this car on Ken's website here is the link kennagelclassi...
ENJOY!
That Buick is a rolling work of art!
High praise for the looks of this car :-)
I liked the pace of this video a lot. No stone unturned. Such a gracious caretaker.
Hi Sabba_Dabba, Thank you for sharing what you liked about this video :-) I agree, Ken is a gracious Care Taker, Lou
That Buick was probably the most elegant car of the 50s! The overall condition is amazing and the color combo is the best ever! Thanks Lou👍
Hi Don's Hot Rod Garage, High praise :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
'57-58 Eldorado Brougham
This 1958 Buick Limited Convertible is an absolute stunner! The sleek black exterior paired with the abundance of chrome detailing truly earns it the title "The Chrome King". It's amazing to see how these classic cars have stood the test of time and continue to turn heads today. Thanks for sharing this piece of automotive history with us, Lou!

this is one of those beautiful cars you just don't see anymore wow. nice. those were the good ole days.
Hi mouse lee, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this Big Buick :-) Lou
@@loucostabile thanks lou, I haven't seen one of these in forever and especially not in this condition, beautiful car. that's my car generation, love to see some truck from this era too!
@@loucostabile Buick used the term "B-58" in the marketing of these cars. About the same time, Convair Aviation was building the B-58 Hustler fighter-bomber. Is it possible that GM might have been involved in building components for that aircraft?
This is one of those cars you always remember.Grade 4 teacher drove a Black 58 Buick Special, more chrome than you could shake a stick at.She drove it daily into the 1980's.These were nicer than all others in 58.
Hi Marty, Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
Such rare and beautiful cars! I always loved this car's big, beefy good looks. Chrome, fins, wraparound windshield...the works. When the '58s were in pre-production, Harley Earle told the designers at GM to "put the chrome on, and I'll take it off." To their surprise, he didn't! May we all be thankful for that!

Lee Martin A 1958 Oldsmobile 98 or a 1958 Cadillac series 60 special would run this 1958 Buick Limited a close second in the chrome contest!.
Harley Earl retired shortly thereafter so he wanted his last one to be well remembered.
I saw a silver 58 Limited convertible, entering a Buick car show on LI, NY. It was 'mesmerizing' as the whole car glistened in the sun with his wife seated on the bonnet in a poodle skirt. That was 1991, 1992 or 1993. Still can't get that outta my head. Best of your videos! Well done Ken!
Hi Pat Currie, Happy to read this one brings memories of the silver one you saw :-) Glad to read you enjoy this video, Lou
My Dad had a 58 Roadmaster when I was a kid. The similarities between those models brought back great childhood memories for me. Modern cars may drive better, but it’s sad to see how much we have lost in terms of artistry and craftsmanship over the years. Beautiful vehicle! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Same story. We had a 58 Roadmaster 75. What a car !!!!
The owner is such a gentleman! We understand his love for this car, to own it must be nirvana!
HI David, I agree, great to hang out with Ken, and so happy he shares his cars with us :-) Lou
Beautiful Buick. GM's most stunning car for 1958 in my opinion. With its big fins and chrome everywhere, the styling is so over the top 50s. And that grille. Wow! Thank you Lou. You're the best at showing off these great pieces of automotive art.
Hi Glenn Weaver, High praise for this car in 1958 :-) My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Don't forget the 58 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special, but it was a 4-door HT only.
Wow! How beautiful pure American joy! No place on earth could make a machine like this car.
Hi David, Happy to receive a "Wow!" from you :-) Lou
Lou: “The car is literally mesmerizing”.
Can’t add anything else to those words!
Thank you!
Hi Guillermo, Happy to share this "mesmerizing" car :-) Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou
A truly magnificent car Lou, thanks for sharing these beauties with us. On a side note there are actually quite a few of these here in Sweden as well, seen them at major car shows like Power Meet. Unfortunately all car shows have been suspended due to Corona. It’s a real treat to be able to at least watch them online. I a specially enjoy when you go for a little ride in the cars as well.
We had the blue gray color I remember the night my parents brought it home I was 8 years old I played with the power windows that engine sure sounds familiar thank you!
@Michael Walter I owned a 1955 Century, sweet car. Buick was unique with it's dynaflow transmission. To Start the car, you pushed the gas pedal with the key turned on and the starter would engage. wish I had it today but that was log ago in the early 60's
An Era when cars had personality! A real beauty here.

@@loucostabile I did. I actually still have the Century! Thanks for your channel. Always a treat!
Please pardon my ignorance, but did the Century replace the Limited? I am a fan of Buick's, and I have never seen a car like this.
Oh my Lord! When I first seen it coming at the beginning of this segment, I was in awe and probably mesmerized trans too! Mr. Ken sir, what a beautiful piece of art of an automobile!!! I just love it! I believe the 1958's were the first year of the Quad headlamps. But man or man! Mr. Lou, I seen many automobiles on your show, but this 1958 Buick Limited is I think the best looking automobile that I ever seen! Wow! Thank you guys; I truly appreciate it. Again, thank you! Oh by the way, you guys were looking mighty cool in that beautiful scenic drive I just saw! Wow!!!
Hi Rickey, High praise for this Big Beautiful Buick :-) My pleasure sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
I watch a lot of classic car videos and this one has to be the best restoration I've seen.
High praise.
This baby looks like it must have just about every available option that Buick offered for 1958, many of which did not become common place on american autos for some 20 years...simply amazing and would have been the envy of every neighborhood anywhere!
Hi Daniel, High praise for the "envy of every neighborhood anywhere!" :-) Lou
At my father's funeral in 1989, I met his childhood friend Ned Walters, who told me that he was hired by General Motors in 1957. Ned's first assignment was to design the chrome for the '58 Buick Limited. He was told to ladle it on: more chrome; more chrome. When the car came out, the reviews were not complimentary, Ned was reassigned to Interiors. An inauspicious beginning to a long career at GM. Now the car is a classic.
Hi wahoo76, Thank you for sharing and adding to the story, Lou
This '58 Buick puts them all to shame! Great car, Lou!
Hi Jeff di Giusto, Happy to read you enjoy this Big Buick :-) Lou
One thing I remember about my parents 58 was the ignition switch that had a on off and lock. No spring return switch because you pressed the gas pedal to start it. Also you could drive it with no keys AS LONG as you didn't accidentally turn it to lock (left) Also the best set up where reverse was all the way down instead of just under park. Cool cars for sure!!!

This is Buick and GM at it's best. This is what Buick is a large expensive luxury car. Today's Buicks don't even begin to compare.
Hi Thom, High praise for this Big Buick :-) Lou
One of my favourite cars ever, along with '57 Chevy Bel Air, '58 Cadillac Series 62 and '59 Cadillac Biarritz

N I C E :-)
Hilarious! And how true
LOU, TELL KEN THAT I WOULD RATHER HAVE THIS "58' BUICK LIMITED" THAN ANY "58' CADDY"... ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS ❣️❣️
PATRICK, High praise for this car :-) Lou
You got more comments on this one than most you present. You used to buy a work of art now you can only get an appliance.
Thanks.
Hi Gary, This video is doing well :-) Lou
Because black is where it's at. It really "sells" the car imo.
Oh well.!! Words fail me. If only this could be stored and preserved as an example of what magnificent workmanship and engineering that was once an ordinary event.!!!

Now that is a fine car there Lou, absolutely stunning. It's amazing how much engineering and precision went into these cars and the attention to detail in every area. Plus the model designs changed every year so the auto makers were busy innovating and designing. Now they keep the same style for years. This car is a piece of art.
Hi Blackie Jones, Happy to read you enjoy this "fine car" :-) Lou
That is the most exquisite restoration I've EVER seen ! If it were a painting, it would be The Mona Lisa. STUNNING !
High praise !
Lou, I looked it up “ The limited 4 door hardtop sedan STARTED at a base price of $5,112”. This was more expensive than most Cadillacs for 1958. They sold only 7438 of them and discontinued The Limited due to lack of sales success.-Wikipedia
Hi Brady Dog, Thank you for sharing your research, Lou
That car has nicer seats that my living room sofas. Sweet.
:-)
This Buick is fantastic! If it's in Ken's collection, you know it's gonna be the best of the best. Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, High praise for this Big Buick :-) You're welcome, Lou
Black paint dried faster than other colors. That's why Henry Ford painted cars black. To. save.production time.
Wow, Lou. A 1958 Buick. A year before I was born, and life was vibrant and still happening.
Happy to receive a "Wow" from you J. Liberty :-)
I just woke up and said "I wonder if Lou posted a video today"? It's going to be a great day!
Hi Bob Bob, Hope you enjoy this Big Buick :-) Lou
17:00 "Chrome award". Now there's an understatement! Another great vid Lou.
Hi joemackey1950, NICE! Appreciate your kind words on the video, Lou
When the manufactures of chrome polish first saw the 58 Buick, they immediately realized the future was "bright".
Sorry...I couldn't resist. Another great story, Lou!
Good one Strange Daze :-)
The exterior AND interior is just a visual feast for the eyes, vastly superior, IMO, to anything produced today. I have never seen this model. Thanks for this video.
Hi TN Tanto, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Happy to see another recent post. Check out mine for some detailed information.
To me that is definitely a work of art. Buick is a dream.
Hi Dave, High praise :-) Lou
Lou, as you know I have watched a number of your videos but this one leaves me speechless and then he drove it! Wow just Wow.

One of my all time favourite is 1959 Buick Electra 255 convertible. One day I will own one
This car is as pristine as it gets, a first class restoration! ..and.. the engine fires up and RUNS like a new car would, also a first class engine build! Thank you Lou for a great video presentation, the next best thing to being there!
Hi TheFRiNgEguitars, High praise for the condition and restoration of this car :-) My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Buick made solid beautiful cars! Never seen that model on the road, as a kid in the 50's, but my mom had a used Buick "58-59"? In the 60's, Convertible Special Ivory White, chromed out, side ports, Buick spoke covers, black cloth top, great in summer, Chicago winters not so much, but I don't remember seeing a Buick in the 50's that didn't have chrome? But that Buick was the King 👑! Spectacular exterior and when you open the door to show off the beautiful red interior almost had to put on sunglasses! The red just popped! when the door was open! Just a Great Car from probably the Greatest Era of Car Styling Ever? 50's The Looks, 60's & 70's The Muscle! After that? Who Cares! as old men we realize what we saw on a regular basis! Was Greatest and Generational! And only now as old men can we afford what we couldn't as kids & teenagers! Churchill was right! Youth is wasted on the young! To see that car on a Chicago neighborhood driving down parked cars line street in and out of sunlight and shade of the trees, catching the light, chrome reflecting light onto everything it pasted, cars, houses street signs and finally it drives by and you see it in its Beauty! Would've the neighbors tongue wagging! One thing for a beautiful car being driven in the country where a few people would see it! It's another thing to be driving in a Chicago neighborhood where everyone would see it! Great Car!
Hi Michael, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Moms car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

Harley Earle was an absolute genius.

Hi Florida Scot, Happy to share the details of this Big Buick & glad to read you learned something too :-) Lou
BEAUTIFUL Car. Thank you for sharing. High school buddy restored 2 '58 Buicks, white Special (sedan), and black Super (coupe). Lots of memories of drive-in movies and cruising around town. Heard it was the car with the most chrome.

Hi steve20118, I'm glad you enjoy my improve lines I through in once in awhile :-) Lou
I LIKE ALL THE POINTY SPOTS TO IMPALE PODESTRIANS.
The 58 Buick limited was beyond luxurious.
Happy to share this one with you :-)
She's beautiful! He has the most interesting collection.
This is a good one for sure :-) Good news! Ken has agreed to share all of his cars on this UA-cam Channel. Stay tuned :-)
Of all of the cars you’ve ever highlighted in my opinion this one is the absolute BEST! Beyond incredible!
High praise !
Fantastic... What an amazing piece of machinery. This is when GM dominated.
High praise :-)
Well...not in '58. That was actually one of the worst years in Buick's history (partially due to that year's recession), and contemporary buyers were turned off by this car's styling. Of course we appreciate this beauty a heck of a lot more now!!
Man, that car has chrome up the chrome. !!!!!!! .
I now have to attend chrome rehab. Unbelievable beauty of a car
N I C E :-)
Lou......I had to wear my sunglasses to watch this feature! Beautiful! Thank you!
Hi Brian SD, N I C E :-) You're welcome, Lou
Well said. I bet everyone looks good with a pair of sun glasses in THIS car! Haha.
I love Buicks!!!!
This is the very most beautiful car of any kind ever built!!!!
Hi Mike, High praise :-) Lou
Amazing restoration!
High praise for this restoration.
I think that car caused a chrome shortage on its own. This is a stunning Buick.
Thanks Lou!
Hi Jeff, You're right! This one is Chrometastic :-) Lou
A 58 Buick today has about $10,000 worth of chrome and stainless on it, twice the price of the Limited convertible new.
Wow! An object of perfection! Great video, too!
High praise for this car & episode :-)
The seem like perfection now but obviously hardly anyone wanted them when new. The 1958 Eisenhower recession probably didn't help.
This Buick is truly a work of art. And it’s not a trailer queen.
Hi Paul, You could say it's "Sharp" :-) Lou
👍💕🍺What a stunning restoration. An absolute gem...

Thanks Lou for recommending this. Wow this really is the Chrome King. But if Buick had put even MORE CHROME on it, that would be fine with me haha. Another great car video. Your attention to the logos, badges, tags, and labels is excellent.
You're welcome Paul Mrod 25. Happy to read you enjoy the details too :-) Lou
Beautiful, rare Buick! Surprised no mention it’s an AC car, which was a rare and expensive option and almost unheard of in a convertible. Not sure where the radio speaker was located, but I believe that was the primary AC vent in the middle of the dash pad with smaller ones built into ends of the bottom tier of the dash. The four switches inset in the “dog leg“ of the wraparound windshield frame are one of oddest ever GM placements for power window operation. Was the same for other GM big cars. So fortunate someone had the Interest and the $$ to restore this great car! Cost almost certainly exceeded total value and even more so now as interest in 50’s culture fades. However, historical value is priceless!

Another masterpiece. If I owned one I wouldn’t be able to just drive it once a year. I’d be driving it every nice weather day . Just spectacular. They really had some beautiful cars in the mid to late 1950’s.
High praise :-)
what a spetakular paint job !! the mirror effekt !! perfect !!!
Hi A. E., High praise :-) Lou

The last of the True Stone crushers. That's what my uncle always called my dad's Buicks. He always referred to them as the "Stone Crusher". He wasn't far off.
Hi Gerald, Happy to share this "Stone Crusher" with you :-) Lou
The most beautiful car made . As a teen I loved them . Never did Buick be as beautiful again and I always buy Buicks .

I had never heard of this Buick before. Stunning!
Hi Scott, Happy to read you think this car is "Stunning!" :-) Lou
What a stunning car. Perhaps one of the last examples of the great Buick line. As a teenager I loved the 50's Cadillacs, and my first car was a 1958 4 door Caddy de Ville. My caddy didn't have the full leather seat nor all the options of this Buick like the A/C and the auto high beam headlights, though. I imagine that the chromed metal box under the glove box was likely a 45 rpm record player.
The man who did that restoration really knows how to do it right! And clearly there was no expense spared. What a beaut!
Hi UCan CallMeRay, High praise for this car :-) Glad to read you had a SUPER car for your 1st car, NICE! Lou
Hey Lou, This Limited was the top of the line Sport/Luxury model in 1958, along with the Roadmaster. 😊
Hey Edwin, Happy to share this "top of the line" Buick with you :-) Lou
What a beautiful car! I have never seen one of these. The restoration is top-notch, as the car looks like it just came off of the showroom floor. Everything is perfect, right down to the tags on various items in the engine bay. This car 'out-Cadillacs' Cadillacs from that model year, in my opinion. That interior is stunning! My uncle was a Buick man, and I can see why. He had a '63 Wildcat coupe and it was in black with a white vinyl top and a red interior as well, and it looked sharp. Thank you Ken for letting Lou show your car to us on UA-cam! 😊👍💓
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy this Big Buick :-) You're welcome, and my pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
Lou, you have grat camera angles. You show so much in detail, I'm thrilled with your videos. The 58 Buicks were so beautiful...I was not a fan of the 60 or 61...but again, I'd take one! I was a little boy when a friend of my father's showed us a car he had just obtained. It was a 1958 Oldsmobile. Similar to this but not near as luxurious! It was pink! I did not see the inside, only the outside. Because I was so young, it seemed like a tank! Beautiful black 1958 Buick Limited.
Hi Brian, Happy to read the details you enjoy :-) Glad to read this car brings back memories of your Fathers Friends car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Hi Lou, I had owned a 1957 Buick Roadmasterconvertible for seven years.I performed all of the maintenance my self, so therefore I am very familiar with this particular model. The vents in the center of the dash are for the AC. The Wonder Bar above the radio selection buttons, is utilized to seek the next available and strongest station. There is also a switch under the drivers mat beside the dimmer switch that also serves the same function. The Limited for 1958 also as standard equipment, included air suspension. Unfortunately as with the 57 and 58 Eldorado , this system developed leaks over a very short duration, consequently, many Limited`s were converted to the conventional coil spring suspension. The autotronic eye served to dim the high beam head lights when approaching another vehicle. The control dial was used to alter the distance when you desired the dimmer to activate.Thank you Lou for another fascinating video. Take care and remain healthy. Brian

Hi Dave, Happy to read this one makes you proud :-) Lou
I am 23 years old and European and it's one of my life-long dreams to own one of these 1950s-1970s behemoths! Too bad I won't ever be able to afford gas for one lol...
HI countryFTW1988, Happy to read this is a "dream car" for you :-) Hope you're behind the wheel of one like this soon, Lou
The '58 Buick limited is my absolute dream car of all times. So sad that this design will probably never come back. Thanks for making this super video! 😊👍❤️🍀

Most impressive. The appointment of chrome on this vehicle would have made any color look great. Black is king when it comes elegance & looking exquisite. I'm drooling right now.

Loved the 58 Buick since I was a kid.
Happy to read this is one you loved :-)
I'm not sure if I'm more impressed with the car or the quality of the restoration. So many chrome bits and other parts on this car made of unobtanium and no pitting, no hazing, no dings in any chrome, all emblems look bright and new, etc. This car restored to this level was a lot of work no matter how good of car the restoration started with.
An unlimited wallet is called for on a restoration like this
And a deal with the devil knowing you’ll never recover 70-80 % of the money
Hi Freedomquest08, High praise :-) Lou
I was into all the new big GMs at the time. I was just 5 years old, but you just didn’t even see many back then, let alone now. I do remember them very well! I owned a 1958 Cadillac Series 62 DeVille convertible in the 80s, with the very rare factory air lift suspension system and even power vent windows, (but no air conditioning as this one does), and this Buick Limited is even longer, more stunning and luxurious than that Cadillac! If Cadillac had ever made a ~Fleetwood~ long-wheelbase convertible, this would have been it! Ultra, ultra rare car!

THAT....is one stunning piece of American Automotive history. This car has more bling & glam than Hollywood in & of itself for decades! Thanks Lou for a beautiful presentation!

When the legendary designer Chuck Jorden commented on this era prior when Harley Earl was still at the helm, they were instructed to heap on the chrome and stainless with a trowel at first, and then remove the overage during final approval process. This is an amazing car, a historic automotive treasure; the holy-grail for many Buick fans!

The accessories from the exterior to interior are crown jewels, certainly it's a beauty!!
High praise for the looks of this car :-)
This is it Lou! Even Air Conditioning that was the vent in the upper middle dash and a vent way to the right side. Phenominal Piece of Excess and Pride.
Hi gene978, High praise for this car :-) Lou
I learned to drive in a '58 Buick Special. White with a brown top (top was painted because owner didn't like a solid white car back then). I loved that car even though it wasn't "cool" by the teen standards of the day. To this day the '58 Buick is my favorite of all the cars ever built. The one he couldn't remember was called the Century.

Back in 1958 gasoline in LA was around 22c/gallon so driving full size cars and Hot Rods at 10-15mpg did not break the bank; the actual cost was paying for the traffic tickets. Retreaded tires in that era were $15-30 and would actually perform like new with no failures.

I agree.
I'm not generally a fan of 50s cars, but this one? Wow, just amazing inside and out, but especially that interior. Insane, I love it.
High praise :-)
If cars could talk , when this Buick stops next to a Mercedes or a Rolls … Bet they are very jealous and would say …. What a show off . This is one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen …
This in 1958 made Cadillac & Lincoln’s envious ❤️ it !!
