- HISTORY OF JAPAN
The first written mention of the Japanese archipelago appears in a Chinese chronicle (the Book of Han) finished in the 2nd century AD. Between the 4th and 9th centuries, the kingdoms of Japan became unified under an emperor and the imperial court based in Heian-kyō. Beginning in the 12th century, political power was held by a series of military dictators (shōgun) and feudal lords (daimyō) and enforced by a class of warrior nobility (samurai).
After a century-long period of civil war, the country was reunified in 1603 under the Tokugawa shogunate, which enacted an isolationist foreign policy. In 1854, a United States fleet forced Japan to open trade to the West, which led to the end of the shogunate and the restoration of imperial power in 1868.
Japanese empire was founded on January 3, 1868, when supporters of the emperor Meiji overthrew Yoshinobu, the last Tokugawa shogun. Power would remain nominally vested in the imperial house until the defeat of Japan in World War II.

How wrong we were in the late 90s when we thought democracy, freedom and understanding was going to lead humanity into a new era. But now we have countries that rejected democracy and used it to establish new old dictatorships, a Russian emperor who is looking to rebuild the Soviet empire and their people is OK with it and a South Korea that has reverted almost to the levels of distrustfulness before the 2002 World Cup and has gotten more open to a reunification under the Juche if that means less chances for the Japanese to take them over again. I guess somethings just can never change for the better.
Japan literally went from samurais and warlord history to anime lol. It’s also amazing that Hirohito lived through ww1, ww2, and all of the Cold War.

Fun fact: Hirohito was a huge fan of Disney and Mickey Mouse. He was welcomed into Disneyland by US President Gerald Ford in 1975. He had a $25 Mickey Mouse watch that he would always wear to meetings or social gatherings. When he died in 1989, he was buried with that same watch.

I am Venezuelan and I adore Japanese culture, its martial arts, its music (not the traditional one), The Jrock Visual Kei Jpop and Vocaloid. I love anime and manga and their video games made by them and I love their food, their contributions in technology and robotics, I also love cosplay.
I also love its history and its tradition of taking off your shoes when you get home or visit and other places where they apply that in Japan and I really like that there you don't tip, they are responsible. 🇻🇪💙🇯🇵.

Thank you for making a video the history of Japan. I'm a little surprised that prime ministers only after WW2 are put on the video (Japanese history before WW2 puts as much emphasis on cabinets as after WW2.) However, the quality of this video is perfect as well as others!! I hope you keep making videos. Finally, wish for peace all over the world, and for Japan to play an important role for that.

Additional information, the real name of Meiji emperor is Mutsuhito, then Taisho emperor is Yoshihito. Meiji & Taisho is just Japan's era name. like Showa (Japan under rule Hirohito), Heisei (Akihito), & Reiwa (Naruhito).
