The Korean peninsular is mostly mountains, so there is almost no extra space for strategic maneuvers. This results in extremely intense close combat in division size, making thousands of casualties just for advancing a few miles. This is why most casualties are caused after the front line got stuck around 38 parallel, not during blitzkrieg all the way up and down at the early war.
My grandfather severed in Korea at the battle of The Chosin Resivour. He fired rifle so continously that he received 3rd degree burns on his right hand near the trigger and second degree on his left hand. The scars from this incident where something I was always to young to understand when he was alive but now as man I have so much more respect for the courage that takes.

My grandfather served in the Korean war when he was only 17 and received two purple hearts as well as a silver star. Unfortunately, he didn't have the best relationship with my father, so I didn't see him that often and never got to ask about his experiences before his passing. RIP Grandpa.
My great uncle fought there too. I was passed his name as my middle name. I never knew him. But he was a remarkable man my father tells me. The Korean War is a war often over shadowed that needs more attention. It was the closest point in history I think we ever got to that almost escalated into WW3 imo.
I’m glad to see someone is finally admitting the US already lost a war to China. And technically, the war ended in armistice… which is a ceasefire. So technically the war is sort of unresolved and could be considered just ‘inactive’.
The Communists had always forcefully tried to gain access to many countries even before WWII, it was Communists that burned the Reichstag down which ultimately gave power to the Nazis to stop them.
On the grand scale of things, each number is someone's story. Behind every statistic is a whole life. And it's not just about those who died; think about all the families and dreams that get shaken up. Really makes you appreciate the simple moments we are taking for granted. Peace.
Yeah man, it gives me chills imagining millions of human corpses. Plus a few more Hundred millions of devastated loved ones. The damage of war to society is unmeasurable.
The battles after 1951 are called the High mountain battles. So bloody it was, a single mountain changed owners 7 times a day, and thousands of precious youth perished for a few kilometer advance.
@@anneongjad2oya In Vietnam, history is written by the victor, that is the current Communist regime of Vietnam. In the minds of the Vietnamese , up to 3/4 of the population do not have the same thoughts as the authorities. They only considered the previous Vietnam War as a civil war, the end result of which was a victory on the Communist side, like the inter-Korean war. Only the state-led media slander the crimes of former South Korean soldiers and uphold North Korea. Most of those who cursed at Korea were brainwashed by the Communist media, coming from poor rural areas in the North, who went to export labor to Korea and evaded their visas. Most of them come from the provinces of North Vietnam. Moreover, the former South Vietnamese government was also allied with south Korea, helping the people of South Vietnam fight against the communist !
@Kipinskii after Vietnam united in 1975, we had to face the truth of economy’s crisis cause by mistaken of planned economy in 10 years, that never happened before. After WW2, Korea reclaim independence from Japanese Rule, Creating the People's Republic of Korea. But then years later, USA and the Soviet Union split Korea into two. The Soviet Union formed North Korea and the United States formed South Korea. But then on June 25 1950, North Korea Invaded South Korea, Since the North Korean Military become much stronger because of the Soviets and have use Soviet equipment to invade South Korea.
The war had far more incommon with WW1 than it did the recently finished WW2. After the large movement phases earlier in the war by both sides it then became bogged down in trenches, patrolling, night raids, artillery and frontal assaults on narrow frontages usually up hills and spurs. Night time was fighting patrols in No Mans Land between opposing lines, dodging minefields and trying to snatch prisoners for intelligence. A very brutal and forgotten war by many.
@@tedmccarron At least the US complied with the 17th parallel drawn by China in the Vietnam War, right? Otherwise there would have been two forgotten wars, lol
One of the reason how South Korea and its allies were able to strike back towards Seoul (The capital) was because of the plan by the United State's General Douglas MacArthur to executive Incheon landing. Which was a port city that the North side held. The success of this landing allowed South to push them back and it can be seen in the video.

The only time China and US led forces came face to face, and it was a stalemate which resulted in 2 Koreas. This is the only war also not romanticized by any Hollywood movie. This was probably the toughest war the US faced, probably more grueling than Vietnam given that this was conventional warfare rather than fighting guerillas in the jungle. Both sides fought valiantly, there is no losers or winners in this war.
@@baconsir1159 I think so, but not directly. They trained Vietcong soldiers in China especially their generals, but mainly facilitated the transfer of arms from USSR to Vietnam, since China had land borders with both countries. Majority of the Vietnamese troops had Soviet training, because the Soviets had boots on the ground. In terms of the VN CN war, I wouldn't call it an invasion, Vietnam was gobbing up islands that belonged to Taiwan (ROC), and VN was invading Laos and Cambodia, as well as trying to gobble up some border villages within Chinese border. China only captured their capital then retreated but what China did and US failed to do so was completely destroy their heavy industries which primarily located in Northern Vietnam. That's why to this day Northern VN is still less developed than Southern VN. However, China suffered heavily from this war, probably on par with US losses. Another interesting thing was that in China there are declassified docs saying that Deng only attacked VN to get goodwill from the US because at that time, China and USSR had already fell out, and the war helped US gain some face.

Damn, everybodys geandfather was in Korea. Mine was Military Police stationed in, I think, Seoul. I inherited his photo album from his days over there. Wherever he was, he said he could see and hear the burst of artillery shells, constantly, over the mountain day and night. He said he would see new units going in ready for battle and watch them come back beat down and battle worn.
My Grandpa fought in Korea, he died when I was younger so I never really talked to him about it. He was on the front lines for a bit. The one story I heard was that they were defending an ammo depot, and they had to blow it and evac in helicopters. Apparently his commander liked his cooking so later on he was able to work in the kitchen and he was able to survive.
my Grandpa was drafted and served. He was a medic, never talked about locations, or really anything all that much. He didn't allow anyone to watch the show MASH, said reality was nothing like that, and it shouldn't be made into a comedy. also said he ate canned roast beef for 9 months straight, so he didn't allow that in his house either.
The Battle of Inchon truly was a stunning turning point for this war, incredible how the map is reshaped by that one victory. It and The Battle of Unsan literally changed the momentum so drastically.
There is a behind story in the Battle of Incheon carried by sacrifices of high school studens. The Battle of Jangsa Landing was a military operation during the Korean War in 1950, carried out to support the larger Incheon Landing Operation. South Korean forces, including 772 student soldiers, landed on the coast of Jangsa-ri to divert North Korean attention. This diversion played a crucial role in the success of the Incheon operation, though it resulted in many casualties among the student soldiers. It is very story. War is always brutal and I feel grateful for those who sacrificed themselves.
The People's Republic of China was founded on October 1, 1949. On October 19, 1950, the Chinese army went to fight in Korea. The new regime had been established for only one year. At that time, China had just ended the war against Japan and the contest between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party at home. The new regime was built on ruins. It had no air force, no navy, and was insufficiently equipped. Under such conditions, the Chinese People's Army and the Korean Army together drove the United Nations forces from the Yalu River, where North Korea and China border, to the 38th parallel. China suffered heavy casualties and the United States also suffered huge losses. They all realized that no one could truly conquer the other and gradually began negotiations.

It was a war on the scale of Europe's WW2, and a historic clash of hegemons in which both China and the United States experienced their limits. People think of the Korean War as one of those conflicts that happened in a small country and often compare it to the Vietnam War. It wasnt that kind of war. That's why the Korean War is called the forgotten war. This was not that kind of war, it was an apocalyptic war. General MacArthur was fired by President Truman for pushing too hard for permission to use nuclear weapons.
MacArthur wanting to use nuclear weapons is a myth. The MacArthur Memorial with other organizations went through their archives and found no evidence that he wanted to use nuclear weapons. When you think about it, if he really wanted to use nuclear weapons there would be at least one document, telegram, etc saying so. And that evidence would be featured in every Korean War documentary. Also documentaries about the nuclear bomb - they would say "the bomb was used in warfare in WW2, but it was almost used again in the Korean War when MacArthur wrote this note..."
@@ironsm4sh That was not my point. It doesn't matter whose number is big or small exactly. As far as China is concerned, this war is a contest between China and the United States and the United Nations. As soon as China was founded, it defeated the power harassment of the United States. It means a lot to China. In modern times, before 1950, because of the Qing Dynasty, China never defeated foreigners, and Japan surrendered because of the atomic bomb. China beat back the world's first United States as soon as it shot, because China doesn't go to YT very much, so you rarely see Chinese remarks, colleague YT, Twitter and others have censored and blocked China's IP, resulting in few people willing to speak. The Korean peninsular is mostly mountains, so there is almost no extra space for strategic maneuvers. This results in extremely intense close combat in division size, making thousands of casualties just for advancing a few miles. This is why most casualties are caused after the front line got stuck around 38 parallel, not during blitzkrieg all the way up and down at the early war.
in the latter part of the Korean War, the war pattern becomes similar to that of World War I in Europe.

I believe China also directly supported Vietnam during their war with the US, right? They also invaded Vietnam themselves after said war, but still.

The Korean war was huge, but the European world wars were significantly bigger.
Bro it wasn't even close. Check how many troops were e.g on German - Russian frontline
@@pawlakpppbut number of troops per kilometer was more. Making it a worse meat grinder field. The horror must've been hell.
The Korean War could have been much worse in terms of casualties, but President Truman was a wise man and understood the lessons learned from WW II. As a Korean, the armistice was heartbreaking, but I believe he made the best and right decision.
The frontline being as mashed together as it was, combined with the sheer difference in the size of Communist forces to UN ones. Korea is something that is not talked about enough in terms of horror of a conflict

I always think his strategic brilliance was much better demonstrated @ the Korean war than in WWII mainly due to the surprising flank landing plan from the sea @ Incheon.
To be fair, no other nation(including USSR and PRChina, let alone N.Korea) possessed the combat logistical capabilities to pull off an amphibious op in such a scale during that era.....most likely still the case today.
@@felixli5279well, today it is much easier to detect, which makes landing operations almost suicidal.
@@heyhoe168 Depending on:
1) if such 'detection' assets today are wiped out or not by long range weapon systems in advance of the landing ops itself - I.e. typical NATO-style strike sequence.
2) A significant % of a U.S. 'landing force' today will be delivered 3dimensionally /airlifted from the sea. Shooting at slow landing crafts in the water is much much easier than at fast-moving choppers/tilt rotor aircrafts when SEAD(Suppression of Enemy Air Defense) ops is done in advance properly from the air.

My father was inducted into the US Navy to fly jets during the Korean War. He Stayed in the military till 1974
wait like stayed by his own will or it was entirely a conscription/obligatory military service period?
My grandfather was in PLAAF during Korean war, the forst group who received jet fighter tranning and went to the battle field, retired 1965 due tu cultural revolution, farewell
@Alfred-Barkhorn
Why was he retired during the cultural revolution
@khediveabbashilmiiiofegypt9475
Conscripted… but being in the military was better than living in west Texas at that time

I would like to thank all the veterans for their help in a small country that I don't even know where they are. Thanks to you, Korea was able to develop into an advanced country with the world's 10th largest economy. And 30 years after the war, Korea hosted the Summer Olympics and has since become a country that hosted the World Cup and Winter Olympics. Thank you very much. Thank you very much
아름다운 영상 감사합니다.
Fascinating. I've never seen the numbers before. Be intersting to see a breakout of S. Korean, UN, and U.S. forces deployed and casualities.
majority of the casualties on the allied side were the south koreans
이 땅을 위해 싸워주신 모든 분들에게 감사합니다

Well it was only in Korea
silly American people always pay taxes for other countries war, always die in another place, not for America, just for politicians.😂😂
Its amazing how the war started with little more than 100.000 troops and reached more than 2.500.000 troops near the end. 😀
Because in the later stage, it is a game between China and the United States, which has nothing to do with South Korea and North Korea, but now it is publicized as if they are the protagonists.
Well imagine if the chinese won, we eont have black pink and psy😅

These vids are great! I was wondering perhaps you could do the Iran-Iraq War and maybe the gulf war and Iraq war 2003? Those could be quite cool to see.
Iran-Iraq would be quite epic (and horrifying).
Fun fact:The first united nation to actually arrive before other country do are the phillipines you can actually see the first united nation there
And another thing at 8:29 you can see that there's only one united nation and that nation is still the Philippines because even they were surrounded they know that if they were push the other side could get overwhelmed or getting flank by Chinese/N.K/USSR and so that they had just no choice and stay there were many attempts to actually flank that the Filipino were holding which did failed when trying to take over the hill the Filipinos held
(It was 1,000 Filipino defending against 40k or more Chinese)
This war doesn’t get the attention it should.
Ngl, there are some good films to make about korean war.
(Lowkey i want to see the exploits of the Philippines expeditionary forces here. They're really epic)
@@AnimaRandom wonder if you can see the U.S. ' intent to genocide the population and actually going trough with it.
China is the one who pays attention to this war
Pilipino's is the big contribution to the freedom of south Korean
This shows that a genius move (Incheon landing) could turn the tide of a war on its head. MacArthur is indeed a legend.
agree! also japs god he is
If you have enough battle ships, carriers and planes, but your enemy has none of them, you can also be a legend🤣
To be fair, the Allied side would likely have still succeeded as they did without it, it just would have been taken longer and been a fair bit costlier.
