I love how every reactor unanimously is like "don't diss Jack Black."
i was just thinking that but also i don't think it was a diss on Jack, just that he plays goofy comedies; so if he's in your film, you're a joke
That was almost like the Super Jam diss from Michael Jordan vs Muhammed Ali lol
All my homies love Jack Black.
Don't disrespect jablinski
i feel like that's a rule of the Internet
"bring the mammal in to nurse your films back to health" One of the defining traits of mammals is that they nurse their young, whereas lizards don't. Great writing.
As a biology major, you're on the right track, but that's not really the case. I get no one really asked, but behaviors like that are absolutely not "defining traits" of mammals. Mammals *generally* are more involved with their young than all other tetrapods apart from maybe birds. This is extremely variable however, and there are plenty of mammals that have little to no involvement in the development of their young (like rabbits for example).
Perhaps what you were referring to is the presence of mammary glands in all mammals. This is in fact a defining characteristic in nearly all mammals, even the ones that NEVER nurse their young (so even the animals that literally don't use them). The only exception to this of course (because biology hates me, and there's always exceptions to our silly rules) being monotremes like echidnas. Monotremes produce milk like most mammals (there's non monotreme exceptions to that of course), but just not through mammary glands like everybody else. I would LOVE to dive into why that is, and excitedly explain to you the evolution of mammals, but this is already way too long.
In truth, those characteristics you are taught when you're in 5th grade aren't even how we identify mammals in real life. They are really just general trends across all mammals, and ones we've found to be useful indicators of an animals evolutionary history. However, when we really want to identify a mammal (like in a fossil especially), we use literally none of that. I'm not gonna go deep into how we identify mammals bones, because genuinely I don't care, but in short, it's comes down to the teeth, number of holes in the skull, and the mandible.
tl;dr because of course you fucking didn't: Nah, that's not a defining trait of mammals, but it is common enough of a behavior to make a good bar.
@@crappyanimations9992r/iamverysmart
@@crappyanimations9992too long, read anyway very informative thank you 😇
@@crappyanimations9992yeah I was about to say, the best way to tell apart living Sauropsids (reptiles and their relatives) and Synapsids (mammals and their relatives) is through the number temporal fenestrae they have, with mammals having one and reptiles and birds having two (except turtles, which eventually evolved to have none).
@@Duckular I did not know that about turtles, and now I feel really fucking stupid.
23:49 (Iron) man and Thor(ium) are also part of the periodic table, so a nice addition to the whole atom-scheme
Right over my head. Absolutely fire
It could also be playing into the Jeff Bridges thing. According to the comments Jeff Bridges was in a King Kong movie and if I’m remembering correctly Tom Hiddleston was in Kong Skull Island. Bridges and Hiddleston played villains to both Iron Man and Thor, respectively
I figured it was also a reference to the fact that Goji has tussled with both Marvel and DC, and is winning
These bars are fucking insane, I can't even
I noticed that most people also seem to miss when he said "I'll destroy ya" that's a referance to another monster called Destroya that Godzilla fought a few times
23:32 if you listen closely, he says “the beast, the beast from 20,000 fathoms couldn’t fathom.” It’s not Zilla dissing himself, he’s dissing the beast from 20,000 fathoms.
its not even really a diss either, its Godzilla hyping himself up saying like yeah im so tough even he couldn't comprehend it
@@ashkavinchi8497 Or referring to the time he stomped the kraken.
See that's what I thought too. 20,000 fathoms sounds like a reference to the novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, where the iconic monster is a giant squid. And Kong in the previous verse claimed that Godzilla was second to the Kraken, which itself was a kind of giant squid/octopus monster. All in all, it felt to me like a hype-up rebuttal, as ash said, like "those giant squid couldn't measure up to me".
Also Godzilla was also slightly inspired by that movie.
@@Bulldogg6404It was a reference from "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms", not 20,000 Lagues Under the Sea
Godzilla's snoop reference was his first line: From the depths of the sea, which was the first line of Snoop's "Who am I (What's my name)"
With how much he catches, I was surprised he missed that one.
I was shocked Knox didn't mention that, but the line fits so well with Godzilla that it doesn't come off as a reference.
He didn’t go back to the very beginning when he rewinded the first verse
The distance between the two lines makes it more difficult to catch.
Up from the depths is also the first line in the 70's Godzilla cartoon
The "rabbit fur flambe" line refers to the fact that the stop-motion model used in the original King Kong was covered with rabbit fur.
Thank you, I was wondering how rabbit fur fit into Kong!
I love how he catches each bar, most reactors just give a facial expression but the way he splits each bar is genuinely impressive
And his retainment of mass amounts of knowledge. KH really is the best UA-camr to break down bars.
Agreed. You should check out Scru Face Jean
Don't you admit the possibility that he watches this beforehand, does the research and then films a reaction?
That’s why he’s my fav
@@ionaskualexander1255It's possible, but he's gotten things wrong before and even if he does it's still cool to have a source where you get all the bars broken down. His reaction is usually secondary to me personally.
20:15 i think the "left your balls on the cutting room floor" line could also reference the emmerich movie, where a major plotpoint was that godzilla is female/hermaphroditic
Shit I forgot zilla was female... Now I have to give the win to Kong as well. It's fine we all know Kong is all talk Godzilla still stomps him out lol
I was going to point this out if someone else hadn't 😂😂
In the 1950s the g-man was a metaphor for the dangers of nuclear war and similar themes, which Hollywood censored in the newer movies ie "Hollywood left your balls on the cutting room floor cause Gojira was way more maliciously destructive back then rather than being destructive for a reason like he does now 😊 yours makes sense too don't get me wrong tho :)
I came to see if anyone else pointed this out.
Wasn't Zilla an "unusual he"?
The "the beast from 20,000 fathoms couldn't fathom"
Means that that beast would be terrified by how unfathomably monstrous he is and how he is so much better than it
Yeah I think Knox missed that
He says, "the beast the beast from 20,000 fathoms couldn't fathom" for the flow, and what he means is "the beast that 'the beast from 20,000 fathoms' couldn't fathom"
I came here to say this. Godzilla was acknowledging that the other beast came first but also saying he is far superior.
Nah, its a reference to the Kraken from Kongs verse. And 20000 leagues under the sea.
It's a good reference to how Godzilla was more of a true beast awakened by atomic bomb tests, which is also what the Rhedosaurus was awakened by. They didn't think of anything like Godzilla when they made the Beast from 20,000 Fathoms.
"Bridges" -> Jeff Bridges in the 76'KingKong movie ;)
Jeff Bridges was in Iron Man as well, so if you reach a bit there's another in there.
@@billbill6094yeah I forgot Jeff B. was in the first IronMan👍
OHHHHH
No. It is about him playing in "The Big Lebowski".
@@johnsonaxel8784 yeah good reference too, I didn't think of that👍
But I think the first reason that they mentionned Jeff Bridges is for the 76'KingKong movie
But yeah "Bigger than TheBigLebowski" is cool
The Code Blue bar is so good though. "Code Blue" is medical terminology for someone who is suffocating, as in "O2 Destroyer" making Godzilla suffocate or choke on his own words.
Code blue is "needs resuscitation". It could be respiratory, but it's usually used for cardiac arrest.
Code blue is also code for a nuclear meltdown, so he's saying that godzilla's gonna have an emotional breakdown after he hears kong's bars.
@KnoxHill
Godzilla actually quotes Snoop Dog in his first line “From the Depths of The Sea” which is Snoop Dog’s first line in “Who am I?”. It’s Godzilla’s very first verse.
The "Shin of Godzilla" line is a reference to Shin Godzilla (shin means new in japanese), a reboot of Godzilla made in 2016
EDIT: Oh and, quite literally, the 2017 version of King Kong is about three quarters of the height of godzilla's lower leg, so he indeed doesn't measure up to the shin of godzilla.
shin can also mean true or god depending on how it's written
@@Skywolfhd20 or heart
Aren't most versions of King Kong actually too small to fight most versions of Godzilla? Showa and Monsterverse King Kong is defintely close in size but pitting the 2005 King Kong against Final Wars Godzilla or pitting the original King Kong vs the original Gojira, yeah, Kong is too small
I thought Shin meant death?
@@Jupiterninja95 no. Shin means new
The “here’s your sign” bar is literally signed in ASL. Baller.
*Fun Fact:* Due to the film Clash of the Titans, it's a common misconception that the Kraken is from Greek Mythology. The Kraken is *actually a monster from Norse Mythology.* The name of the monster that Perseus slays in his story is named Cetus. Pronounced See-tus
WOW! God bless you guys for the likes!
It's promounced that way in English, that is
Came here to say this
You made my ancestors proud, and saved me some typing. Thank you.
I feel like the "Oh, you shouldn't try to talk about the atom
With the beast The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms couldn't fathom" line is supposed to mean that Kong shouldn't talk about the nuclear message to him, since Godzilla's original movie did that, and it did it better than The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, which is why The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms couldn't fathom him (Godzilla).
This was one of the best bars in erb history
for the "for a social primate, you sure seem lonely" line, Godzilla is digging into Kong's childhood. When Kong was born in the comics, it's revealed his parents were instantly killed by skullcrawlers, seemingly being the last Kong alive, he ruled over skull island when the skullcrawlers returned to the Hollow Earth.
The discipline and lack of mercy of Godzilla and Kong's more casual charisma are portrayed really well in their verses, massive props to ERB
This one hit me about the 10th time. Watching the battle straight through. Godzilla has very direct and powerful verses both in what they diss and how he delivers them. His most subtle lines in my opinion are to do with film styles in the haiku and his lines about the atom. Which is great because the atomic part is the more subtle messaging around Godzilla. On the other hand, Kong is not quite as punchy per se but has fantastic clever tactics and is more human.
@@jamiewarren2307Goji fighting with his mind and Kong fighting with his heart
I think (correct me if i'm wrong) the "I'm bigger than Bridges" line is a bar referring to
1: Godzilla 2014 when he is shown to be much bigger compared to the Golden Gate Bridge
2: Jeff Bridges being in the King Kong of 76'
It is about Jefd Bridges playing in The Big Leboski. "Bigger than Bridges".
@@johnsonaxel8784 Oh I missed that, thank you
Probably both incorporating a double entendre
Shin also referring to the 2016 movie "Shin Godzilla".
Jeff Bridges was in the 1976 King Kong movie.
Great breakdown, Knox. I think many people would pay to see you Godzilla victory dance on Benzino's grave.
Shin is just Japanese for "new" by the way in case people didn't know, like Shinkansen (bullet train) literal translation is "new main line"
@@stumilesyt the word has several meanings leaving it up to interpretation, one of them being also "king" from what I remember
Great reaction Knox! Another line that’s pretty dope was when he said “…come at me with Iron Man and Thor, I’ll still destroy ya”; one of Godzilla’s greatest enemies was a monster named Destoroyah
Glad someone else caught that
I think godzilla was also tearing apart comic book heroes. I don't know if he went to marvel but I know he beat up superman.
I think it's a reference to that along with destroyah which is pretty cool
@@viproductions2410 He did beat up the avengers. they had to shrunk him down at some point and he still got away unscathed
Marvel Godzilla is a thing and is canon to Marvel.
I'm shocked Knox didn't notice the triple for "Sea G" aka CG (computer graphics)
Was looking to see if someone commented on this before I mentioned something. Well done
I caught this too but I wasn't sure it's full ref, I even tried to google but their AI bullshit algorithm things is making their search results and feeds worse and worse. All I got was "West World" and "vertigo" was the first movies to have CG by certain measures, and the definition for what a "monster movie" was.. not when was the first time CG was used in a monster movie.
@@ShadowTeller I think the bar wasnt meant as the first CG monster, It was meant as the Kraken is better and more popular CG monster but I might be mistaken with it.
@@stkop1186 Exactly, basically just low key trashing Godzilla CG lol..
I think the “come to New York” bar also references the 1998 Godzilla movie where Godzilla came to NYC and was killed
One of the lines that slips through Godzilla's double-time/chopping third round is "Destroy Ya" can easilly mean "Destroyah" as in Destroyah the Oxygen Destroyer which was one of Godzilla's most powerful foes. Leading the Destroyah oxygen destroyer rebuttal (I already beat the oxygen destroyer, what are you?) into Ghidora was smooth.
Also, another cool thing about the "chopping" verse is that it started off as a rebuttal entirely to atoms/oxygen. Atom splitting is the source of nuclear fission/power/bombs. He literally "chopped" his "atom-splitting" lines. A very nice touch!
Fun fact, whenever king kong says " so go ahead and glow blue, imma make you code blue" code blue is the code given to any persons lacking oxygen/having troubles to breathe in hospitals. So the fact is. That was a triple right there. Very clever
Rampage is a game that came out for the arcades. And there was a character called Lizzie. She was the female character from the game.
Fun fact, whenever ling kong says " so go ahead and glow blue, imma make you code blue" code blue is the code given to any persons lacking oxygen/having troubles to breathe in hospitals. So the fact is. That was a triple right there. Very clever
Oh damn, I just caught the "rap Godzilla" "pray to me" bar 😆 this shit is just 🔥
Godzilla stomped Kong in this one. "Saddest death since Harambe". Damn... damn...
I’ve been comparing other reactions with yours and I think you’ve caught the most bars out of anyone else 🔥 and on top of that you add so many facts that not many would know about so we could understand it too 👌 expert breakdown
Yo he did a lot of reactors missed or didn't understand a lot of the bars. He's the 1st one to catch the 98 lay eggs line and explained it perfectly
Dude is smashing it. My new reactor
You don't know how much I've been waiting for your reaction, Knox. Love your breakdowns
You missed the "come at me with Iron man and thor" being a reference to the elements Iron and Thorium, which ofcourse ties to the atoms sceme.
Oh shiiit i didn’t catch that one
Oh shiiit i didn’t catch that one
It's actually a double.
Not to mention Marvel Godzilla ran the Avenger’s fade. Thor and Iron Man didn’t know how to handle the Big G
@@TheUncivilizedNation interesting, didnt know that
The '98 Godzilla movie was such a catastrophe ToHo bought the rights to it and rebranded the monster to 'Zilla just to murder it on screen. In Godzilla Final Wars, the 98 'Zilla fights the original Godzilla and gets two-shotted. Jumps at Godzilla, gets tail whipped into Sydney Opera House and atomic breath'd into pieces. Goes out like a bitch. It was hilarious. I'm honestly surprised they didn't mention that.
Tunahead
I think the most hilarious part of the "Kraken" line is that in DC comics right now Aquaman just unleashed the very same creature on Goji and Goji spun his block.
Nah man that Jussie Smollett bar is a round 1 knockout Kong got COOKED
Toho was the company that created Godzilla!! :)
Love the vids, Knox! Congrats on a mill homie. You deserve it.
RKO was the studio that made the first King Kong in 1933
@@brothersgt.grauwolff6716 correct. I think he mentioned that one though.
Godzilla quotes Snoop Dog's Who Am I song in his opening line "from the depths of the sea." That's what Kong is referring to when he says not to quote Snoop to him.
You missed the triple reference with the rap godzilla bar! Yes it references Rap god, but it also references another of Enimem's songs Godzilla
ToHo’s is also a sly reference to “tojos”, a common American slur for Japanese soldier during WWII.
They added a slur in damn🙉
tokusatsu, isn't just for monster movies/kaiju films. It's basically a type of genre combining special effects with practical. many different shows and films are considered to be tokusatsu (toku for short term naming) like Power Rangers is considered a tokusatsu IP.
22:55
He says, "the beast the beast from 20,000 fathoms couldn't fathom" for the flow/rhythm/smoothness/whatever, and what he means is "the beast that 'the beast from 20,000 fathoms' couldn't fathom"
Anyone else think that "brought the Mammal in to nurse your films back to health" was a double? Since Godzilla is a reptile, and reptiles dont nurse their young, implying that zilla is just a baby compared to knog
Love your music and reactions so much
Appreciate you!
I can't believe hes actually breaking this battle down lol love it
That Jussie Smollett bar went WAY too hard
The "Shin of Godzilla" was referencing the moving "Shin Godzilla". It was done in 2016-ish and was the only non-Legendary Godzilla moving for the longest time until Godzilla Minus One.
A little slow, but still a great movie (and arguably the most powerful Godzilla).
What about Novel Ultima?
Shin Godzilla was also the highest grossing Godzilla film (until Minus One)
Shin Godzilla is not the most powerful Godzilla, his adaption abilities are wildly overhyped.
@@philswift8793 Not really. I mean if we take the creators word as canon then shin can grow to universal sizes. Plus it's able to adapt to nearly everything in just days
@@Welcometoyourlocalchannel When did the creators ever say that? Besides, as you admitted, it takes days to adapt, not something particularly helpful in a fight.
the irony that in rampage there is a giant monkey name george
I like your new way of breaking the lines down. The depth of the usual review isn't lost, but you also get to listen to the music in its intended form more. 👍
Bro I gennuinely love your reactions and how in-depth you go. Whenever I don't get a reference or something like that, you teach me it and I'm all for it!
17:13 - The "Shin of Godzilla" dig is actually in reference to the movie "Shin Godzilla"
What I also love about the “bring a mammal in to nurse your films back to health” is that mammals are classified as such bc they nurse their young and reptiles don’t.
professional rapper reacting to epic rap battles of history? my life is complete
You have a lot of Knox Hill videos to watch then...
My hat arrived yesterday. Love your channel Knox.
The Toho line references Kong hating Toho, owners of Godzilla.
And the shin line references Shin Godzilla, the 2016 japanese film
Last post that beast from 20k fathoms line is cold from Godzilla. He is saying he is the beast that the beast from 20k fathoms couldnt fathom(imagine). Saying he is the horror of horrors. Imo respectively
It's funny - you caught way more lines than almost anyone else I've watched react to this, but you totally missed the "from the depths of the sea" line which most other people caught. :P
I like this way better. Listening to one at a time, then going back. All the stopping before was difficult to stay engaged.
The beast from 20k fathoms line actually is deeper (pun intended). That movie is the first time that famed effects director Ray Harryhausen was the head of effects on a movie. Harryhausen was taught by Kong effects creator Willis O’Brien. O’Brien’s career sadly went south after Kong so G is referencing that Kong’s creator peaked while his apprentice went on to have a massive career.
Harryhausen also made the Kraken from the original Clash of the Titans hence the line "What's Kraken?"
Hands down best, most knowledgeable breakdown of the ERB. Love it!
I was very eager for your reaction to this. I watched it 3 times to study the bars and then came to you to see what I missed. The lengthy breakdowns you do are awesome dude!
Godzilla absolutely took the first round, and I don't think it was close at all. He had the best wordplay, and 100% had the hardest hitting disses and bars.
21:30 there's another layer to that, code blue is used in the medical field when a patient goes into respiratory failure
Knox .you missed the sea G (cg) bar in King Kings first verse...it makes the Kraken line hit a lil different
💯

Just going off from someone commenting about Jeff bridges being in the 1976 king Kong movie, I guess that's what he means when Godzilla says "I'm Bigger than Bridges and I'm swinging digits...." 24:38
I'm actually impressed how much general knowledge you bring to the table. I got about 35% of the lines in the way you did.
Super insightful and great video overall!
This is not what I expected to see this morning but I’m not complaining Godzilla’s voice is so cool
Godzilla currently has 37 movies across Toho and Hollywood productions.
King Kong has 10 movies.
Just sayin.
Much love and pride from the DMV Knox!
I’ve seen 2 of your battle reactions and you sir are one of the smartest UA-camrs I’ve ever watched your brain retains so much information you’re like an encyclopedia and you’re so good at analysis
I get that no one cares, believe me, but just a tiny correction: Oxygen is not represented by O2 on the periodic table. Oxygen is just "O." We commonly call it "O2" because that's what's in our atmosphere. Just the element oxygen is "O." 8 protons, 8 electrons, and 8 neutrons. The shit that we breathe is not the same as the element, in fact, we would die if we inhaled the element. We breathe two oxygen atoms bonded together. O2 is a molecule, and is not the same as oxygen.
As much as Godzilla cooked Kong in this battle, the "Bing Bong! Fuck ya life!" bar hits even deeper because that also was a reference to Gorilla Nems' BING BONG song.
King Kong, Gorilla. Clever ass double.
I resent the "nurse your films back to health" line because godzilla minus one exists and kong is one to talk.
Just to add to the 02 verse. he was referencing the Kaiju that killed and beat Godzilla before, Destoroyah. Created from the oxygen destroyer, and Godzilla on his third verse also referenced it along with the Gidorah line. "I'll destroy ya".
The Jack Black line could be a diss more to Kong than Jack Black, since Jack Black is a very well respected comedian. Bascially saying Kong is not scary but now is funny
both sides had great verses but while kong had some particularly heavy hits all of zillas were nukes
Knox I love the intro! Your song is just amazing and it’s on my playlist. You’re a an absolute legend fam❤.
Godzilla, no question. The Empire line alone was better than anything Kong had, nevermind the airplane bar and G-man's entire 3rd verse. Kong definitely had more personality, but Godzilla ripped him apart just like the last time they got into it.

Not sure if I'd agree with calling the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki "atrocities"
27:59 In the original King Kong VS Godzilla, King Kong is transported to fight Godzilla at Mt Fuji via a set of balloons.
For the record the berry juice and balloons weren't the original King Kong, they were from the 60s King Kong vs. Godzilla movie, where they "roofied" Kong with a berry concoction and flew him in on giant balloons to fight Godzilla.

This was a great breakdown. Really like the way you did it by listening to the entire verse, then breaking it down.
I’ve been waiting for this reaction. You’re the only reactor I’ve noticed that’s caught the Minilla bar.
33:39 - I saw them once when they came to Belgium and actually managed to get my picture taken with Lloyd afterwards. Absolutely crazy.
You deserve more views. You make an excellent analyzation of each ERB rap song.
Consistently the best breakdowns. Great content.
That sneaky destoroy ya bar was nice a jab at the 02 bar since it was in that movie where it was used, it's nice to see the big G gives a nod to his 2 biggest ememies King Ghidorah and Destoroyah
I've watched a lot of youtubers reaction videos for this battle and hands down you have the best video breakdown 👏👏👏
