I went to high school with Matt almost 20 years ago now. We weren’t super close, but it’s still cool to see someone you know have so much success and do such awesome work. Keep it up, Matt!
It is even more cool when someone claims to know someone with success and not claim to be their best friends or lovers or etc. I am sure Matt appreciate the accolades
Thanks!!
@@kamurray67 amen to that!! well said
I went to high school with Matt and I taught him everything he knows about street hockey, general relativity and the nature of man.
It would be awesome if Chad & Colten could take pictures in the future of what becomes of these slabs. I wonder how many total years from seed to finished product that would be.
Live edge epoxy river table. what else is there anymore?
14:13 that is one nonchalant, perfect water toss. 👍🏼
That's a great T-shirt, Matt. I appreciate the head scratching portion of the video planning out the slab cuts on this log.
The saw continues to do a great job with no blade flutter and nice flat beautiful slabs. A testament to the builder of the saw. You are going to get spoiled having help around. Makes a big difference.
I’ve had Brad here a lot lately for these sawmill videos. Not having to worry about the cameras is bliss
I don't know why I'm so so obsessed with these videos! Every time you cut into a log, you see the beauty that lays within, and is truly impressive.
Someone commented about seeing a slab go from cut right from the mill, and seeing the finished product... I think that is a great idea, I'd be extremely curious to see it!
You doubt correctly, Matt. I have never seen walnut slabs the size of these, and of course, they are beautifully figured. Your vision of building your sawmill has proven itself many times over, and it just keeps going, love it!
Beautiful slabs.
16:46...impressive!!! you almost hit dead-center of the pith from measuring before cuts...Cremona is an ar-TEESSST!
I am impressed! You actually discussed and planned the cuts in advance.
I am struggling with a book on programming. The author knows nothing about planning. He just throws things together and hopes for the best.
Beautiful stuff. Would love to see what some of this becomes someday.
Landfill most likely.
After the live edge/epoxy fad is over , yes, a landfill it is.
Placing a block so that you can get the forks under the slab is such a simple task. But I have never seen it done so well. Amazing!
I said it in the last video and I have to say it again. That is some stunning Walnut guys. Simply beautiful !
Anyone remember Victorian furniture? You know where they used beautiful walnut like this at 1mm thick as veneer? These Fred Flintstone tables seem so wasteful a use of trees. Yet they are beautiful.
Finally getting to see this thing get sawed up!
Thank you for all of your hard work
I am VERY GLAD we aren't doing Matt's Drinking Game
here! Every time Matt says "crotch" or "figure" a shot.
Every time he says "crotch figure," a Boilermaker.
steve
Tree illiterate here; the wood is beautiful to me. Looks like you have your work cut out for you. God Bless you all!
Enjoy the channel Mathew, you made this 71 yr old man laugh "" Swoopy Swoop"" love that saw mill terminology LOL from SE Texas Bear Beautiful log... much money in that log. :) Keep up the good vids Bro.
Great video! Thanks for wearing PPE
Man standing those slabs up makes them really intimidating… but gorgeous!
Beautiful wood! Thank you for sharing! 😊
Outstanding slabs, thank you Matt
Beautiful wood grain and colors. Walnut is an amazing wood, evidently.
Greetings from the BIG SKY. We have a snow alert this morning.
Hey Matt, many of us are curious how you work things out with those who bring big wood? Do you split up the slabs, or charge a fee, or just do it out of the goodness of your heart (which wouldn’t make a lot of sense, but it is content for the channel)?
Option 3
AMAZING LOOKING WOOD SLABS.
Please show us some of the finished products that are made from these slabs. They are beautiful!
I would as well. We see the slabs but never anything finished from them. Maybe someday there will be a conglomerate video of the cuts and then finished goods. That would be nice.
@@sithus1966 Sorry to disappoint but what’s not gone/going to pen-blanks is used as firewood. [Matt: Prove me wrong!]
@@sithus1966all my project videos reference the sawing of the wood
Impressive urban veneer slabs. They will become a fitting tribute to the CEO seated at the head of this conference table!
I'm not sure but is that about 100 b.f. apiece?
I would love to see these slabs finished.
You developed a new water discernment style. Prety darn fancy, Bro.
Lee
Still at awe with how big the log is that you can mill.
Matt, those were the biggest one piece slabs I've ever seen !
Great slabs of walnut. Matt now you have serious competition on water splashing .
Storage workshop is important and so is sleeping comfort while the weather is ok you can cook out side
Good Morning Cremona Family
Amazingly beautiful wood! I wish I had the facilities to make something out of a slab like that. I notice you're wearing a respirator, which I don't think I've seen you do before. Was it something about that particular log?
The dry shell produces fine dust
Unforgettable slices of wood
Those are gorgeous amazing walnut slabs!
Living vicariously, tools and equipment I’ll never have
What would look cool is cutting like 1" from the scrap parts and mount them on the outside the barn as a show & tell from cuttings you done !
Some really good looking slabs. Some high splishy splash scores. 😂😂😂 thanks for sharing
I really enjoy your videos Matt, I have been watching you for years. I have seen some beautiful wood on your channel. Timothy
Matt,
Have you ever thought of adding some sort of drip lubrication to your saw blade?
Might even prolong the blade life.
BTW, that was a walnut LOG! Zowie!
The parts are still in the drawer
Great use of the word zowie. You just don’t see it enough either.
that log you're using for a stand is freakin gnarly
We have Goby Walnut here in Oregon, so yea I've seen slabs like this.
Gorgeous wood!
More Great looking slabs
That is an awesome tree!
MATTHEW CREMONA:
Never doubt me.
EVER.
Big Red making Beautiful Slabs
Absolutely beautiful slabs ❤ 21:18 dog
I'm really liking the slow motion water toss💦💯👍
It amazes me the size of such slabs, to be made into a phenominal table I presume. Cannot rap my Arms around it!
That is a lovely log
I hope you get to keep one of those slabs. Matt! Keep up the good work
I was wondering that too. But sounds like this is just a cash transaction for labor. Or maybe matt is doing it for free just to get the views. Looks like its going to be a 5 part series.
Payment is their participation in the videos. It’s a significant time commitment
Nice. Surely youll get a small walnut piece to build something for your new house. Hopefully.
Very little cambium my friend, you struck gold! Is that a midwestern log? Huge for eastern walnut.
Yes, western Wisconsin
Matt can we see some of the finished products from these cut that you make for your work and others
20:44 with the bowler's approach, leg behind and everything
Great to see that tree turned into something useful. Did you count the rings?
In your very early sawing videos you used a hose to wet the wood. Now you use buckets of water. I assume because it is more fun!
Spectacular
As I saw Matt looking at the blade, then cooling with water, I imagined Matthias Wandel coming in with a laser cooking temp gauge, and fashioning something to drop the water if the blade got over a certain temp.... the I thought maybe MC doesn't even need a temp gauge, he just knows!!! :-)
Insanely beautiful WOW
Good afternoon Matt that is rare to see you have to chop some of wit of with your big mill but that is defenetly a big log at the crotch i know it was not full of character but still had some style to it have a great day every one
@21:56 It looks like the grain jogs to the right 90° then left 90° to continue upwards! Weird! You'll need a cabinet scrapper to clean out the tear out after you plane it.
Very nice Matt !
Easy there Matt, you're starting to sound like a bit of a wood snob. Not everything can be Sepele Pommele. Just the size of these pieces and erratic grain changes at the crotch make these pieces highly sought after. Want something that you love every time then cut burls on your bandsaw. Saw is working flawlessly!
Beautiful slabs. If you don't want them, someone else I am sure someone will buy them
Beautiful piece of wood.
Have a city near me where there are thousands of Black-walnut trees with 25-30’ straight trunks 2.75 to 3.75 feet in diameter! Are they worth felling for slab walnut demential walnut and 3’10x 4” x25’ ? Did one 35 years ago to make a 30’ x 5’ x 3.5” coffee table with legs for $25,000 not resin filled oil finish
Seems you kept putting down there slabs when i think they looked a lot nicer than ones i seen you get excited about.
Slightly longer slightly thicker wedges to drive between the slabs to save having to pick. Place a bearer, then repick? granted a little more hammer action required for sure.
Im so in love with the grain of those slabs! My kitchen is so outdated. Has anyone used these beautiful monsters for counter tops? They would need an edge of course and I prefer a hard shine. Would it be practical and is it possible to seal it and keep it food safe?
Those walnut slabs are expensive. Im guessing $5000 each for the 2.5” thick slabs. Those giants ones that are 3.5” thick…$10,000 each.
@@Cooldaddio2 Ok, but that did not answer the question.
@@jamesh.maloyjr.6940 would it be practical? No
Any idea how old the tree was. You said urban but it started as country!
I really don’t understand the Luke warm reactions to this beautiful wood! You all are looking for a party going on in the trees!
Maybe you have already done this but in a general number what does a slab like the slabs that were not standing up cost.
Glad to see you got your respirator out. Better safe than sorry. i was concerned on the fist day, but it seems it was windy in your favor.
Yeah and this one has the dry shell which produces very fine dust. Very different than a fully wet log
Using a differential hoist suspended from the telehandler would make it much easier to roll the logs over and position them. (And reduce the chance that they would split in half.)
Yes it’s just not as convenient since you have to rig the log
“Not Cremona grade!” 😂😂😂
20:47 That bowler technique tho
Do they make bi-directional blades? Would they even work?
Put the slab on top of a couple of saw horses, and you've got a $50,000 raw-edge executive conference table. Delivery extra.
You are right sir! but i still dream about it 😅
To all that aren't wood snobs out there this is great every piece would have been used back in the day 👀 I didn't see a slab that I wouldn't run my hands over and thank god for his gifts of life and ultimately death 👍
I miss you and Donovan working together 😢
Dang..... BIG slabs.
Superb timber
Bo approved 👌 🙌
Every time I see a vid where you almost tip that thing forward I about die. Do they make weights for it?
Sawmill wood cutting channel has really big logs , really big homemade sawmill , satisfying when you watch that channel
Small in stature but huge walnuts 🫡
Besides right arm exercise, why do you choose to use a hand cranked mill?
Lots of feedback to make sure the blade is cutting flat
❤ Beautiful!!!!!
Matt, you had to cut the log to get it on the mill, why did you build it. so small?
Many nice gun stocks. In this tree
16:12
Question:
Do you have plans to add motorized controls instead of this manual crank ?
Manually operating the carriage on such a large tree looks painful ....
No plans. It’s only difficult on small logs
I would be proud to have gun stock or guitar made from any part of that 👊
Hi why wouldn't you have this sawmill up at your shop or by your barn/ Not right in front of your garage?
My shop is in the garage
I love crotch too lol thx for video, amazing wood!
