You said it right, the tires are so important. In these conditions I always recommend winter tires. If someone slides through an intersection you have much better steering and braking with a winter tir, and that can make the difference in hitting them or avoided an accident. The all season tires can look to be okay when driving in a controlled manner as you showed but when traffic is around you there are a lot of idiots and they do stupid things. This is where the difference will be enormous. You will also see a bigger difference on steeper hills that you see in Camas, Washougal, and parts of Portland. My daughter has a Rav4 Hybrid with the all season tires like yours and the difference in her Rav4 and mine with winter tires, Bridgestone Blizzacks, is very noticeable. I live east of you where the hills are much steeper than what you showed and I always prefer to have a best possible tool for the job. In this case, a winter tire. 😉
Thank you so much for the video. I just bought a 2024 Rav4 XLE Premium with AWD (gas), and was wondering for well it would do in the weather. I used to live in Troutdale and I know how nasty it can get in your part of the country when it freezing rains. Thanks again.
I cannot believe the Tacoma moved like that. I guess you need legit blocks. We just had a significant (for our area) snow fall in my area. My wife's 2013 FWD Camry and my 2014 FWD Camry handled it with no issue (for unavoidable slow driving). We have new (within the last year) all season tires that definitely helped. But I was impressed with the FWD only. There is such a small amount of conditions that would require AWD. So we stick with FWD. Love your videos of the 2023 Rav4. Keep them coming.
Man, that ice storm was not fun! At all...! Glad to see another PNW'er with a RAV running in this weather! I'm currently in the build phase with my RAV. So far I'm loving it! Great vid!
hi, I have exactly the same car, a silver Toyota Rav4 LE 2023, only Canadian assembly. I have heated front seats and body color silver mirrors. I have one question for you. What kind of roof rack do you want to install? It is no longer possible to install from RAV4.
Glad that awd system is decent. I recently found out that the lower rav 4 models have an inferior awd system compared to the higher models. Torque control vs torque vectoring
No the lower rav4 don’t have inferior awd. the hybrid awd is inferior due to its not connected to the engine or transmission. The standard awd is connected to the engine and transmission.
Next time you have ice storm like that, when its over, try throwing some sand on top of the ice surface very close in front of the wheels(or behind, depending on how you parked it) and my guess is that ice is not gonna be a problem anymore.
i am super impressed at the awd capability of the car! I always think you need some kind of super handling awd or quattro to tackle stuff like this with all season tires.
For grip on wet ice like that you need studded tires. Second best would be ultra-soft rubber tires like the Bridgestone Blizzak tires. After that, regular winter tires like the Michelin X-ice Snow is not as good, but still better than the stock all-seasons that come with the RAV4.
Having good tires on vehicle helps also on the driving conditions to go along with brakes, abs and AWD systems. If you have cheap Chinese tires … doesn’t matter what type (All seasons, snow etc) you wouldn’t make it through any of this 😂🤣
You don't need awd for those roads, look at the other cars around you that don't have it. The sand does all the work. If you had hard ice a 4 wheel drive wouldn't work.
U are driving way too fast on pure ice. What if a kid runs out in front of you. U will not be able to stop in time. You are thinking that the anti slip can help u if the car gets into a full slide down hill. Nothing stops a car on pure ice. Watch what the hell you are doing!
I just bought a Rav4 xle awd 2024. I bought it because I watched your video. Pick it up in a few weeks.
How is it so far?
Yakfish, you're a brave man!😂 The '23 Rav4 is impressive!

Wow this has to be the best video on youtube for seeing how these cars work in bad conditions! Side note, there’s a nice square body at 8:33!
Very impressive. We recently purchased a 2024 RAV4 XLE AWD hybrid and have been quite satisfied. After seeing this video, I'm VERY pleased. Thank you!
Hybrid should be even better than gas trim.
We had ice down here too. Power went out just about everywhere. Glad its over!!!!

I purchased 2022 Toyota RAV4 LE AWD a year ago and I loved it. Reliable that what I'm looking for and this car has it.

Nice video. Thinking of purchasing a Rav 4. Seems like it did great!
GREAT REVIEW. Your the only one doing videos on the LE AWD. 👍
Great video demonstrating how safe the Rav 4 drives in dangerous conditions.

The AWD works from a stop by default as well, slip or not

Stay safe driving out there yal.
Good performance. What is the city you live in?
Love wintry weather and nothing in Atlanta this year but 2 weeks cold

@@fallguy4209is the standard AWD system good in winter weather?
Good video👍👍
Nice driving! Better than most people!

Those are good tires!!

I love my RAV4😎👍
Impressive!!
Stay safe❄️🚗 I have the same vehicle in FWD.
Nice ride

Are you going to get wheels for the RAV?
Rav”s are amazing!
He is a brave man
Do you notice any difference (perhaps improvement) when you turn on the Snow mode in these conditions?
@Yakfish, Nice phone holder! got a link to buy it? :)
lol, I got it for free, from my right hand 🤣
@@bebe0928 haha, nice one. I meant the aluminium one in your vent next to the steering wheel
nice video
Great test thanks
What state are you in? Guessing Washington
Yes
Did you do all of this in normal mode or did u choose snow /ice mode option? Good video
All normal mode
Thanks for a great video. I am getting more confident in buying a RAV4 based on your input. Toyota should pay you.😂
For your car that slid, did you have your parking brake on?
Absolutely
Yakfish needs Yaktrax😁

All wheel drive is amazing. You would have been stuck with front drive even with the best winter tires.
I have a Forester. I wonder how it would handle in icy condition.
I had a 2017 Forester, and it handles like a dream in this condition as well.
RAV4 is a good Suv

WHY does the ABS make such a loud grinding-like sound when it is working?
That’s the motor and brakes pulsating faster than any human could hit pump the brakes
@@fallguy4209 That grinding noise just sounds like something is going wrong in your car….even though it’s not.
Meanwhile theres a firetruck doing 360 spins in someone's neighbourhood
Spay pam or oil around the rubber on the door than it wont stick
can i hav it? how bout the venza would it b the same?
Different awd system. The gas is superior awd system. The hybrid used electric motor 54hp in rear- which is weaker than mechanical awd gas model.
Why would Anyone even Attempt?
Some like to live on the edge. Staying home is boring.
which state in us?
Washington
Taking a chance. Be careful by hit black ice you’ll lose control buddy.
👍

Stay home, dude!
Ive seen a car that from other state that has snow. Car got so much rush in it. Not like in california no rush.
snow tires save the day. 4wd is an performance equipment, not safety. 4WD does not make a car stop in shorter distance.
Hello from Peru! I like you accent it seems you living in USA but where you were born? Your ethnicity is? So curious 👀 thank you ^_^
What is your ethnicity? Mien, hmong, Lao? Chinese-Cantonese.
