The atomic breath scene in theaters is still one of the greatest moments I've ever experienced in theaters. The entire theater was dead silent, and that breath sound was so loud, it was just amazing.
Godzilla minus one is even better.

If anyone is wondering why Japan can only respond to an "armed attack" and the SDF - Part of Japan's surrender in WWII was they were not allowed to have an Army or Navy, so they couldn't start another War, they were only allowed to have Special Defense Forces that could only be used in the case where they were attacked by another Country. Thus the need to have suffered an "armed attack" before they could deploy "Fighting Forces". To this day this pretty much stands true. In turn, as they became allies with America, we had promised to come to their defense if they were attacked because they were not allowed to have a "Traditional" Military.
That's bs though. America is truly the most hypocritical nation to ever exist.
Just few years ago, japan is allowed to build weapon. This is because China and North Korea is pressuring japan which force japan demanding to armed themself. Japan also announced they will build new gen 6 jet fighter together with britain and italy. They already modifying their ship into Carrier ship.
Japan also announced they will seling weapon within next few years. If you listen to news, current situation of world military is similar to WW2
China basically became japan military
Rusia basically became german military
North Korea became italy
But this time, this 3 countries got nuclear ICBM warhead equipped with solid state fuel that can reach every part of US and europe. Meanwhile NATO is the one Who spread propaganda this time Just like nazi party. According to US ex-general, he predict WW3 will be happen as late as 2027.
So if you live in big city, go to rural place and live there. Even if US and Britain completing laser weapon system to counter ICBM, it's impossible to stop more than 1000 ICBM at the same time
FYI russian ICBM is unique unlike China and North Korea, it's capability to fly lower than radar give it advantage to sneak into NATO countries
The Constitution of Japan.
CHAPTER II.
RENUNCIATION OF WAR.
Article 9.
Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes.
In order to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained. The right of belligerency of the state will not be recognized.
※Under current legal interpretation, the Self-Defense Forces do not fall under "land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential," and are considered to have the minimum necessary right to self-defense.
Amendments to this Constitution shall be initiated by the Diet, through a concurring vote of two-thirds or more of all the members of each House, and thereafter shall be submitted to the people for ratification, which shall require the affirmative vote of a majority of all votes cast, either at a special referendum or at such election as the Diet shall specify.
Exclusively Defense is the basic stance of Japan's independent defense strategy since the end of World War II.
"Exclusively defense" is described as a passive defense strategy that follows the spirit of the Constitution, in which defensive forces are only used in the event of an armed attack by the other side, the form in which they are used is limited to the minimum necessary for self-defense, and the defensive forces possessed are also limited to the minimum necessary for self-defense. This definition has been used in subsequent Cabinet decisions in responses to questions in the Diet.
In other words, threatening attacks, preemptive attacks, retaliatory attacks, and attacks on enemy territory (with the exception of missile launch bases, etc.) are prohibited.
To put it simply, "You can't shoot until you're shot."

I love how youtube removes comments. What a great society we live in.
Agreed. Godzilla -1.0 *should* have been nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Oscars! There were 3 scenes during that film that moved me to tears. A movie that told a moving human story with great character development AND gave us LOTS of Big G screentime & fantastic special effects?!
And Best Score. That score for me is right behind The Dark Knight
i got a tear in my eye when Godzilla showed up in the city with his theme going, it was beutiful. I also almost cried when that atomic breath happened in the city too. It was too amazing.
This Godzilla is entirely CGI, they just modeled the movements to resemble that of a suit actor.
Glad someone (you) pointed it out. Peeps should do their research before spewing nonsense when commenting on a movie.
It’s actually a misconception that they used animatronics. They did build the animatronic, however the Final Cut ended up being completely CGI.
So they weren't cooling godzilla, they were doing the opposite. Godzilla is a nuclear reactor, so it doesn't use blood to carry oxygen, it uses blood as coolant like the water in a nuclear reactor or the antifreeze in the radiator of your car. They applied a blood coagulant to make its blood clot and stop circulating, so it couldn't cool itself. In order to not overheat and die, its body did a SCRAM, an emergency instant shutdown of his internal reactor. He basically pulled the plug on himself in order to stop his body from melting down so he could potentially restart himself later.
Then why did he freeze.
@@Tattle-by-Tale Looked like it turned to cement
Shouldn’t Godzilla have matched the ambient temperature of the area? How did he freeze?
Maybe Godzilla froze himself so he wont rott alway while restoring his blood.
They did cool him down, they stated that explicitly several times. The biology behind the plan is nonsense, but so is everything else in the movie.
By the way, the blood is because every time Shin evolved, he had to shed "unused" cells and tissues. This manifested as the "blood" in the opening tunnel sequence, and pouring out of his gills when he first comes on land.
Or the fact that his body's temperature was skyrocketing while his body was still soft that his innards basically bursted and regenerated repeatedly in order to adjust and adapt
Wasnt it that he needed to cool down so he expelled the super heated body fluids to ensure he didnt have a melt down?
I can't wait for this one. Shin and minus 1 and the first ever godzilla are my favourite
Likewise!
Truth!
Same bro
This is certainly the most unique Godzilla movie I've watched (not counting a rocket Godzilla or flying kick Godzilla). I respect the effort here a lot.
Laserbeams...out of his friggin back (and tail)!!! 👀
Has anyone requested the 90s Gamera trilogy yet?
I did also what's up man. Long time no talk 👍🏿👍🏿
Undearrted for sure. Also maybe the new Gamera anime after the fact?
Gamera is really neat. He is filled with turtle meat.
Let's bump this request! Those are great movies!
@@TomahawkYTYou RHYMED that statement!
The closest Godzilla got to a true horror film, especially if you think about what would have happened had they not stopped him in time.
The original is a horror film.
In my opnion i think minus one is the more impacting
@@sorryiforgortoputaname5883 minus one is pure tragedy instead of horror type
This is by far the most terrifying Godzilla.
I'm going to go against the flow here and say that "Shin Godzilla" is the best Godzilla film of the series. This cinematic iteration of Gojira is just otherworldly and Lovecraftian in nature-a perpetually evolving abomination that reciprocates every possible destructive threat that is hurled at its path.
Can definitely see why this won best picture in Japan
As a die hard Godzilla fan, I was so excited to see you guys do a Godzilla movie. I saw this movie in theaters with my family when it came out for a limited time. I've been watching Godzilla movies since I was a kid and let me tell you, these movies are awesome . I will say, regarding the CGI and visual effects, they did have a upper body animatronic of Godzilla, but they didn't like the results they got with it, so they decided to go with CGI. Also, there were two deleted scenes from this movie that I just found out about last year from the UA-cam channel Dangerville where they talked about the deleted scenes and I highly recommend checking out their video on these deleted scenes. The first deleted scene ( which was an unfinished visual effect shot), is during Godzilla's first rampage scene in Tokyo, just as the helicopters line up to attack him, he vomits blood, and as the blood hits the ground, it becomes acidic and it pops car tires and damages train tracks. The second deleted scene takes place after Godzilla destroys Tokyo in his fourth form, where they find chunks of his flesh with eyeballs and teeth growing from it. If I remember correctly, the reason why these scenes were cut, (at least the second one), was because Toho thought it would be too much for audiences to handle. Like I said, highly recommend checking out Dangerville's video talking about these deleted scenes as they go in depth. And as far as Godzilla's design goes, it's definitely one of my favorites. The directors described this Godzilla as the stuff that nightmares are made of. Hope you guys do more Godzilla reactions, because these movies are so much fun to watch. Also, love when Mr. Movies pretended to roar like Godzilla, he added in one of the roars from Godzilla 2000. Also love that your dog showed up for a little bit. He looks so cute. Hope you guys have a great Easter weekend.
The blood wasn't acidic I don't know where people get that from, it was just extremely hot thats why it was bending the metal and poping tires and was boiling the water earlier in the movie.
The best design choice they made for this film was to have Big G's CGI look like suitmation.
39:53 Goro Maki didn't just wake up Godzilla, he fused with it (Goro Maki's head is literally in Godzilla's tail and he may be the reason to why an aquatic creature like Godzilla evolved into something more human-like), there's canon material (Goro Maki's Journal) that shows how he created a previous Godzilla while planning on starting the events of this movie.
thats a theory
@@firmak2 literally is in Goro Maki's journal.
One of the coolest but also saddest thing abt shin goji is that canonically he is in constant pain
They actually didn't use the animatronic at all in the movie. The only practical shot of Godzilla is his frozen tail at the end of the film. Otherwise, most close-ups of building destruction were all practically filmed with miniatures. But the animatronic Godzilla was scrapped altogether and only appears in bonus footage on the Japanese blu-ray releases. So the scenes where you believe it to be a practical animatronic, is actually just very well executed cgi. All comes down to time and budget.
40:50
A simplified version:
"Through the power of ORIGAMI, we've figured out our SCIENCE! Now we just need to inject Godzilla with all of our sweet, magical SCIENCE JUICE!"
I love how this whole series has the feel of "I'm making my wife watch movies she would never watch on her own and asking for her positive takes on it"...kind of like in my house.
The artbook for this movie really gives somethings away for what they had in plan with what you saw at the ending
14:34 in Japanese 'shin' can mean a couple different things including 'new' and 'God'. Simply put the title means 'New or Different' Godzilla.
Kami
by "word of god" it means the three things at the same time, it's a new godzilla movie, a different godzilla from before and god incarnate due his adaptability potential and destructive power
新(New)
神(God)
真(True)
芯(Core)
心(Mind,Heart)
身(Body)
深(Deep)
進(evolution)
審(Judgment)
侵(Invasion)
All of these characters are pronounced ''shin'' in Japanese.
There is a theory that character Mori experimented on himself, jumped into the sea and mutated into Gojira/Godzilla.
According to other comments, that's exactly what happened.
In Japan, it is a tradition to leave your shoes neatly on the site of s**cide like 3:15.
So happy to see you two reacting to this amazing Godzilla movie. This is one of the most terrifying versions of Godzilla to exist.
Beyond being a commentary of government inefficiency, the film also uses vivid imagery to reflect the effects of the devastating tsunami and nuclear power incident Japan suffered in the 2010s (to my recollection). So, to answer your question, yes, Japan has nuclear reactors.
America: "I hate the humans interrupting the kaiju action"
Japan: "Here's a Godzilla movie about bureaucracy."
World: "IT'S AWWWWWESOME"
@@ScreamingScallop I mean... godzilla has always had bureacuracy shots, sure shin has a lot more than the usual but, having goverment heads sitting around talking this and that is always a thing.
@@ScreamingScallop The human scenes serve a very vital purpose for the story, like they did in the original Gojira, plus the humans are interesting.
No, that's propaganda. When any government properly funds something (like the military, social security, and infrastructure) it is perfectly efficient. When they're neglectful, use resources for nefarious purposes, and/or don't regulate properly (due to lack of funding), they're inefficient.
A blend of practical effects and computer-generated imagery was considered (the former tested) for Shin Godzilla; however, Toho settled on a completely CGI monster. Mansai Nomura portrayed Godzilla via motion capture.
Watching Godzilla evolve throughout this movie is fantastic. Sadly, one of the best examples of Godzilla's evolutionary capabilities was in a deleted scene. There is a team sent into the city around Godzilla when he first goes dormant, and in one of the buildings is a chunk of flesh blown off of him by the bombing. And in the middle of this red mass, it's growing an eye.
Coincidentally, this Godzilla is the most fun to read the lore about, because it's wild.
They built a suit for this movie but I believe the only shot of it is when he roars after getting hit by the bunker busters, just before he shows off his breath.
They built a huge animatronic puppet, but it was unconvincing, so Shin is pretty much entirely CG.
@@Ferropexola1996 yes... I read somewhere that they only used it for the one roar just before the atomic breath.
They shot several scenes with it but like you said it was unconvincing.. too much of a difference between the CG and practical effects.
I like the fire breathing and lasers Dan he just stand there wipe everything out don't need to do anything lol
Shin Gojira is in constant pain and doesn't know why some little creatures are attacking. Its body is just responding to the environment and will keep evolving. And yes at the end that should be the next evolution since the enemy is an army of tiny little creatures, so the best way to fight them is becoming an army itself.
Shin Godzilla Dr. Goro Maki
After a few viewings of this movie, I have come to a theory regarding Godzilla's origins. It seems no one thinks about the beginning before Godzilla is shown. The boat that the scientist, Dr. Goro Maki owned is found abandoned right where Godzilla becomes its first evolution. Does this mean anything? Perhaps, did Dr. Goro Maki commit suicide for the turmoil Japan put his wife through? And if so, what happened to him? We don't ever really get any information as to where he was and if indeed he did throw himself off the boat.
My theory is that he might not have even committed suicide. Maybe he dived overboard and swam down into the bay and possibly the radiation contained in that area made him merge with fish and other sea-life which became the start of Godzilla...? Going over the movie quite a few times, I have never heard any explanation as to why the boat was abandoned and where the scientist is. It's implied that he committed suicide. But I have been thinking that Maki began Godzilla's birth. Willingly, or accidentally? I'm not sure. But that is my thoughts.
I love Shin Godzilla and the creepy design, the attack on Tokyo at night is one of my all time favorite Godzilla sequences. Minus One is incredible and has my favorite Godzilla design of all time.
I bought a Shin Godzilla figure after seeing the movie for the first time. The tail is so long, it's in two pieces, even before it attaches to the body. Looks great on a shelf, though.
That's not red goo or excrement coming out of its gills. That's BLOOD.
Such a great re introduction for Godzilla. Just fantastic. Also that's not a man in the suit it's CGI also don't get this version mixed up with the Monsterverse version they're two different continuities. Also y'all should watch the 90s Gamera trilogy they're fantastic.
13:07 "Yeah, that's a bummer."
Honestly, this movie would've ended so much sooner if they just accepted the small chance of casualties instead of holding out like they did.
Those helicopters wouldn't have been enough to kill shin
He'd simply regenerate any damage done in seconds, especially to normal machinegun fire
Incase you didn't know, NONE of those shots were an animatronic, that was actually scrapped somewhere in production.
16:53 How cool is that? That used to be my mom's job, too. Caused her no end of hassle should traveling to utter the words "I'm a Disaster Planner" and then have to explain that to some twitchy looking TSA folks. 🤣

Paper documents are also used in large quantities in the US FDC during the Covid-19 pandemic.
funny thing as i recall Shin Godzilla eventually does reach his finale stage and becomes immortal and the ability to travel via flying as he gains wings in that stage and in said series of comics made for it, Shine Godzilla conquered that galaxy being unable to be destroyed.
Shin was a fun Godzilla movie and I can't wait for you guys to see Godzilla Minus One
Godzilla - sometimes king, sometimes foe, but alway cool
27:53 I hate this mistranslation. He's saying "Launch all Hellfires!", which means launching of all AGM-114 Hellfire(Helicopter launched fire-and-forget) missiles. "Give him hell!" is such a cheap and corny line.
25:11 🤣🤣🤣🤣 the little t-rex hands
Lasers out of the back was a weapon in the NES game.
10:13 funniest reaction to Shin’s first clear appearance I’ve seen
I love this movie. Great reaction, as usual. The fluid they pumped into Godzilla wasn't a coolant, but a coagulant. By stopping the flow of blood they stopped Godzilla's ability to regulate it's own temperature, forcing it to shut down rather than to suffer a meltdown. Kind of like when a car radiator stops working.
Gotta love that Akira Ifukube "Godzilla Theme".
I like how in American Godzilla he’s a Allie cause we made the nukes and in Japanese movies he’s the “villain” but they still make you feel for him playing that song about him longing for something more than pain not understanding why he’s being attacked when he uses his atomic breath
Finally someone who sees the American and Japanese
@@KyuuDesperation I just saw the newest one and it was just funny he was the “good guy” causing just as much destruction only difference is American movie vs Japanese movie
"Is a nuke going to hurt something that grew up eating radiation?"
I grew up drinking water, but I can drown. A LOT of people use this question to claim he could survive a nuke. To date, the only Goji that has ever been nuked is Legendary Goji (at least twice). We have no idea if any other Goji would absorb the nuke, or get overloaded and melt down or just outright die.
I will say that this version is a great interpretation of the iconic King Of The Monsters, but that split lower jaw during the first atomic breath scene was honestly super creepy to me. It was like Godzilla had a love child with the Predator and a Graboid from the movie Tremors. I recommend watching the original Japanese Godzilla movies from 1954 to early 2002 to get a better sense of what makes Godzilla iconic, despite the English dubbing being supremely cheesy and the action in the 60s and 70s movies being corny as hell.
I definitely agree, Godzilla Minus One should have been nominated for more.
Awesome reaction of my favorite Godzilla movie!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
this movie does have good use of akira ifukube's music score from godzilla's previous films
That dog is so cute!! 😍 such a good boy!!
Great! of course there is the Godzilla Minus One, but, I really want to suggest the rest of the Shin series: Shin Ultraman and Shin Masked Rider (Shin Kamen Rider), pls!!
Hope you two are having an great and awesome day ❤
Just wanted to point somethint out, there are no shots of Godzilla in this movie that aren't cgi. The puppet was scrapped in production.
Best Godzilla imo
Return of the Kaiju Cowboy
Has anyone requested the other 2 Shin movies?
Visited Tokyo for the first time this past September, wonderful city. I grew up near NYC, Tokyo is a different beast, huge tho. Hope you enjoy when y’all go!
This is part of a series though... There's Shin Ultraman and Shin Kamen Rider and Evangelion 3.0+1.0
They're connected in the same way the Cornetto Trilogy is connected
Shin kamen rider is huge dissapointment, evangelion is mixed
Shin Godzilla is to date one of, if not, my all time favourite movie. The acting is great, Godzilla actually looks like a mutated abomination and is not just fighting other monsters or is an angry beast, but just a animal in pain, still trying to fight for it's own survival. But I think the best part must be the combination of classic Godzilla tracks and sounds, and the original works of Shiro Sagiso, especially "Persecution of the Masses" and "Who will know", both beuitiful in a haunting way.
Possibly my favourite creature design in any Godzilla film.
Shin was directed by hideaki anno who is one of my favorite anime directors/creators he made neon Genesis evangelion which is my all time favorite anime
"If Godzilla is defeated by committee, he will become a committee."

Oh man, this movie is in my top 5 for sure! 💯
'The people there are pretty sensitive about radiation'. Gee, I wonder why?.
His name is "Gojira". It's a compound of the Japanese words for gorilla, and, whale.
Like and Comment for Howdy standing off against Godzilla.
In regards to all the papers, Japan loves hard copy for some good reasons
24:12 It's kind of hard to get the first time around, But they basically use a coagulant to overheat Godzilla, forcing his body to turn off the reactor and freeze itself
Yay after watching somebody watching cloverfield its cool showing people pov and hiding the monster and only hearing it fighting the military now get to see monster vs military yay they have no chance lol
I very much enjoyed this reaction.
1:45 Curain moves, then a shadow between the light and the stars... WHAT WAS THAT ?????? Nevermind, I just saw Howie. LOL
"Why do you have so many papers? We're living in the 21st century here!"
Japan was actually pretty slow to adapt to the digital era in that regard, even by 2020 I'm pretty sure many places still used fax machines and other old tech. When it comes to some technology, a sizeable portion of Japan seems reluctant to adapt to new things or abandon the old.
Remember watching it in 2022, when Corona (measures) was still pretty recent. I’m pretty sure this film aims at Fukushima, but it’s not too far off from Corona in Germany
Look up the song lyrics when he goes ham.
Someone pay them to watch Big Man Japan ! The best Kaiju movie ever 😂🤘
LOL to this day, Japan still uses sooooo much damn paper, everything is still paper there lol
Recently, there's a talks about digitalization of japan. Goverment want younger generation only use digital while letting older generation to use paper until 2035. Meanwhile every developing country already moved to digital because of lockdown in 2020
Yes! I was hoping you were doing this one!
The best thing about Japanese Godzilla movies is that they stick to the true nature of it, a menacing beast that is destroying anything in its sight and it looks awfully horrible as well, unlike American Godzilla that sometimes sort of teams up with humans or other creatures, sometimes even smirks too..with a lesser menacing design to it .. : /
That's only if you take into account the most recent ones and the first ever Godzilla movie.(Maybe even the first few ones)
However even in some of the subsequent classic Japanese Godzilla movies he very much becomes a protector figure.
Look Mom, a weeb!
Like Godzilla *never* teamed up with other creatures in the Japanese releases. 😏
Tell me you haven't watched that many Godzilla movies, without telling me you haven't watched many of the movies
Poor dude never watched anything other than Shin and Minus One. 😅
A lot of people prefer a Minus One to this movie, and while I understand this, and the story behind it is immaculate, I think Shin Godzilla is now my all time favorite. They both are very unique and you can’t compare them: in Shin you feel terribly sorry for the poor creature in agony, it’s only fault was being born and consuming nuclear waste, and it is shown as a manifestation of a failure of humanity; in Minus one Godzilla is an unstoppable force of nature. In both movies you hope for Godzilla to die, which is an incredible contrast to American Godzilla where he is portrayed more as a superhero.
I find Japanese movies show Godzilla as a true titan, a god-like creature we can’t fathom, and I find it the best version.
Still love King of The Monsters and Godzilla 2014 tho, but for very different reasons.
Godzilla vs King New Empire was for me an extreme disappointment. One of the worst movies, not even just one of the worst Godzilla movies.
i hope they revisit the minature godzilla concept along with something they said earlier Godzilla could sprout wings and fly
Much of the sublime original score from 1954 is played throughout the film. The OG Gojira is a phenomenal movie (not the U.S. version with Raymond Burr though I love Perry Mason) with a distinctly Japanese POV. Akira Ifukube, composer. The Godzilla roar was created using a leather glove on a standup bass.
Don’t worry man, I laughed at the “armed attack” joke you made 😭💀
Definitely my personal favorite Godzilla movie. I think it's the only one of the bunch where Godzilla is shown as the pure biological horror that it really is. His multiple evolution stages were also a nice idea and makes me sad that we'll probably never get a sequel to this.
Of all the Godzilla adaptations, the Shin Godzilla looks like a lava lamp.
Kudos to Mrs. The Movies for pronouncing "Gojira" correctly with the L sound, not the R sound that most Americans improperly say.
Since heisei era, Japanese were told to pronounce L and not R. Problem is what happened when they need to speaks R and L at the same time. Why japanese didn't create L word is mystery.......
Showa and era before that, there's no L sound in japanese so every old People still saying gojira. For example remember that japanese in 2014 Godzilla movie and he said gojira because he born and gew up in showa era
@@boboboy8189 What happens in our real life is irrelevant. In the Japanese dialogue of all the Japanese films, Godzilla's name is only ever pronounced "Go-gee-lah" [gee as in gee-whiz]. It's never said with an R sound. Since Godzilla is a motion picture character, how his name is said in the films is the correct pronunciation. There is a real French name "Clouzot" [clue-soh] but one would never spell Inspector Clouseau's name that way. So you shouldn't say Godzilla's Japanese name with an R sound since they never say it that way in his media of origin.
