The least scary rated R horror film you can find LOL!
You missed the extended ending.
No! You must react to the original! Of course it's necessary to watch the original first!
I really wish y'all would watch the remake of 'The Haunting' from 1999... especially since you have already watched 'The Haunting of Hill House' series.
Plus, it has a stellar cast - Lili Taylor, Liam Neeson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Owen Wilson, Bruce Dern, Virginia Madsen
Just remember, the house isn't haunted. The hill is haunted. The house is perfectly fine.
The original with Vincent Price is a lot of fun.
THAT one's a William Castle flick!
The original is better.
@@Shadowman4710 the original feels like an unfinished movie
The Rifftrax version of the original movie is pretty funny.
Fun trivia: the nurse in the Price hallucination scene who says "you've been sick Mr Price" was played by Slavitza Jovan who played Gozer in the original Ghostbusters.
I had nothing to do with this. I WAS ADOPTED!!!
A guilty pleasure of mine!! I watch it at least once every October! They don’t make scary movies like this anymore!
Awesome movie. Much scarier than Event Horizon even imo.
I know. I didn't realize the actor that plays the camera man is spike from Buffy the vampire slayer. 😎
this is a weird movie for me, it's a shitty and great movie :> First half is awesome, but by the second half it starts to get cheesy and....bad especially the ending, but so much is great.
The opening fakeouts, the girl in the basement, the crazy spinning room, the fakeout with the wife. Just really hate the ending hehe. Where it goes from good, to oh god it hurts bad cgi and silliness.
Did it ever say why the ghosts didn’t kill anybody before that night? Wasn’t it converted into a private residence? Maybe I’m an idiot and missed it (adhd likes to adhd) but I couldn’t figure that part out.
Because all the people there that night were related to the spirits
The fact that pritcherd is so freaked out with just having to walk in the door should have been a big clue to run to everyone
Or they thought he was a hired actor, there to set the mood for the night.
THE CELL ! With Jlo And Vince Vaughn if you wanna see Weird 😂
Great movie.
"WHO ARE YOU??!!"
Holy shit was the killer played by Vince Vaughn In that??? I had no idea or didn’t remember that
Vaughn was the cop, D'onofrio was the baddie
@@jasongrajales8982 I definitely need to rewatch it, I barely remember
One of my fave movies when I was a teen. Super underrated. The set pieces and costuming are beautiful. Trippy as hell too
The cameraman on the rollercoaster, is James masters played the vampire spike on Buffy the vampire slayer and angel, brainiac on small bills and a slew of other rolls.
I still wished we got more of him in this because I felt he was a wasted character. Saw him and said oh we get Spike, 10 minutes later when is Spike coming back.😥
I guess they haven't watched buffy
Isn't it James Marsters?
And the reporter was Lisa Loeb whose 1994 song "Stay(I Missed You)" and trademark cats eyes glasses were IT. 🤩🍿👍
He not the only Buffy actor to be in the film. Max Perlich 17:14 was in the Buffy season two finale Becoming playing Whistler the demon who first showed Buffy to Angel.
Bridgette Wilson was Sonya Blade in the 90's Mortal Kombat movie.
Lisa Loeb, the singer, was the reporter at the beginning interviewing Price. Never saw the opening credits for this movie, so this is the first time I saw the name, then her face clicked.
Also, Doctor Vannacutt was played by Jeffrey Combs, a big horror icon. He starred in a couple Lovecraft adaptations.
"No talk! Money now!!!"
Chris Kattan is killing it! He's my favorite part of the remake, with Geoffrey Rush's sublime Vincent Price impression close behind.
Rush's character was supposed to be called something else but after seeing him in that pencil moustache, they changed his characters name to "Price".
This movie like ghost ship is a guilty pleasure of mine. Except for the CG at the end ia actually pretty fun
This is a good remake. Remember watching this as a kid and finding it super creepy.
Didn't this movie launch Blumhouse?
Out of all of these dark castle films from the era, this one is my favorite.
It's the best one.
Ageee
the best part of this movie is evelyn and stephen.... their hate/love is more amusing and entertaining than the deaths hahahah
Ngl, I would compare these two to my relationship with my ex gf when it was coming to an end.
It's weird. We started out like Peter Parker and Mary-Jane and ended up like the Prices...
It ended ugly. But I'm kind of desperate to get a new one. It's been like 5 years now...
Not so fun fact: Chris Kattan broke his neck doing a skit which ended his SNL career around 2003(i think). The skit was a Golden Girls parody and he ended up with a spinal injury that required 5 surgeries to repair. NBC paid for 2.
How the hell did he do that while being a Golden girl?
@stripe801 In the sketch, his character and the other girls are eating cheesecake around a table, and he starts to fake choke. To sell it, he flips backward out of his chair and accidentally hits his head hard on the ground, breaking his neck in the process.
@@snewsh Goddamn 😳
3:01 If your ear gets torn off, you can lease a lobe.
Never clicked so fast. Damn, this movie, is a rare gem that got lost in time. I was 12 yo when I watched for the first time and really left a mark on me, hadn't watched Jacob's ladder by the time, so the effect of the ghosts were fresh and scary to me. Sound design is amazing too, you can hear random grunts, laughts, twitches and all freaky sounds in the background, the whole time. The imagery and the freaking Vanacutt walk were a new level of scary for me back then, ghost today are lame, this one is vicious, graphic and crazy. Thank you for unlocking great memories.
The stop motion used on the ghosts was unmatched at this time.
It wasn't stop motion for Vannicut's ghost. Jeffrey Combs did the scene backwards and they reversed the footage giving it that jerky motion.
Geoffrey Rush is also fantastic as Casanova Frankenstein in Mystery Men.
Now that's a fun movie!
Probably the best super villain name I've ever heard
I love you guys so much... but Mr Movies using the phrase "turn of the century" to (accurately) describe the time period just before and after 2000 made my stomach turn 😅
I'm not even 40 yet and had one of my kid's friends casually say something about me being "born in the 1900s" that cracked me up for some reason. Like I just got lumped in with Al Capone and WWII and the moon landings, it's all a blur.
Definitely an underrated horror remake, it’s fun and has a great cast
I never seen the original however I love this remake. The cast does their best and the creepy factor is at 10/10
I watched this movie and the sequel about 13 years ago, and liked them both a lot.
Also, fun-fact: The lead ghost doctor is played by Jeffery Combs, AKA Herbert West from Re-Animator.
Omg, he was AMAZING on The 4400!! 🥹😍

This movie has a direct to video sequel, Return to House on Haunted Hill which was released in 2007, back when making low budget direct to video sequels of big blockbusters started to become a common practice.
Is it any good?
I remember, The Lion King 2 was pretty decent... 😅
@@chanceneck8072 it is good..... for direct to video standards
@chanceneck8072 its not good. It creates some really weird lore that doesnt feel in linenwith the first movie. It also did this weird interactive choose your own adventure feature. Wasnt my favorite
Yeah, not good. No budget, dubious plot, none of the original actors or locations (FYI, in this film the entrance door exterior and drive up to the house are actually the back of the Griffith Park Observatory).
@@kinokind293 Jeffrey Combs DID reprise his role.
Jeffrey Combs has a very understated role as the surgeon. He's doing it brilliantly.
i believe this movie and 13 ghosts take place in the same universe… i believe the Jackal was a patient in the hospital when it burned down
Would have thought he was way older
The scene where Jeffrey combs is walking on camera weird he did the scene backwards and then they reversed the film to achieve the awkward movements
24:08 Poor Mrs. Movies, but we are grateful to you for your terrified reactions!
Now if you watch the sequel it answers a lot of the questions from this movie. Did everyone notice James Marsters from Buffy and pop star Lisa Loeb as the reporter and her cameraman?
The Vincent Price omage was unintentional. If I remember the DVD commentary and bonus features correctly, Rush put on the mustache/costume and his own version of Vincent Price came through. The production then changed the name of the character.
This, 13 Ghosts and Ghost Ship were all early projects/remakes of William Castle films that kicked off Dark Castle productions. I believe William Castle's daughter may have been involved in the company. William Castle was big on gimmicks and stunts in the theatre. In the original HOHH, when a skeleton emerges from a vat of acid, the ushers would fly a skeleton over the audience on a pulley system. You can see that referenced in the beginning of Scream 2 with the Ghostface dummies flying over the theater. Sometimes seats would shock the audience, sometimes the audience would need to sign a death waver before going into the theatre.
This remake really captures the demonic fun house vibes of those gimmicks. It's such a fun amusement park ride to watch.
I also saw this in theaters when it came out. It very likely seemed better because, at the time, the gore pushed the envelope for what would be shown as a pop movie in theaters. Of course, movies have continued to up the gore in the last 25 years.
Watson looks like a grown up shady Harry Potter
Annabelle is pretty tame compared to what she was in Goldeneye
EVELYN
Check out the movies House Of Wax(2005), The People Under The Stairs(1991), and The Faculty(1998).
For sure The Faculty. That movie rules.
32:57 "B****es be crazy."
You made me actually LOL. 👍
9:00 BLABS LOL
It's Bridgette Wilson Sampras now. She married tennis great "Pistol" Pete Sampras the year after this movie came out.
This is one of the few horror remakes of the time that actually surpassed the original and was able to cast several credible actors. Geoffrey Rush just won the Best Actor Oscar in 1997.
They did Bridgette Wilson dirty in this one lol. After they watch the camera footage and she gets dragged, there's that creepy laugh before it cuts off. They should have done more with that. Vannicut when he walks by the camera all creepy like as if shot in the silent film era. That gave me chills back then...nowadays I try to walk like that for real but end up feeling like I'm doing the Conor McGregor walk.
Forgot James Marsters is in this.
This is a good one if you havent you should watch the remake of 13 Ghosts from the same studio.
It’s on our channel
@@YouMeTheMovies Awesome now I must go back and watch that reaction lol.
I've never heard someone say a "breathy talker" From now on, you have to say movie names with no breathing lol
😆😆
24:13
That look of shock was so real.
I've loved this film since i was a kid. My brother used to scare the shit out of us with the Dr. Vattican walk and face movement.
I can't think of anything more scary than being forced to continue working the same soul crushing job in the afterlife that you had in life.
Urban Legend y’all shall watch and Jeepers Creepers
1999 was an insane year for movies. Ah, right, when i saw the title I thought it was the other 1999 movie The Haunting, based on The Haunting of Hill House, upon which the recent(is) Netflix series was based, and neither which has anything to do with of course The House on Haunted Hill. 1999 was indeed a crazy year for movies. So like Armageddon and Deep impact the year before in 1998.
Oh, and Chris Kattan's performance reminds me of an older, earlier Ezra Miller somehow. Their faces just, I don't know, do the same, similar mannerisms.
24:05 was the best. 😂That scared the absolute hell out of me as a kid. Along with the hallucination locked in the chamber with the naked chick underwater with no face. No thanks. Definitely a fun guilty pleasure of mine.
You should have watched the original
Vincent Price, Elisha Cook Jr
I love this movie. Creepy and fun, with neat f/x, a fun cast, and an internally consistent mythology. A Halloween favorite of mine.
This was the movie that cemented my hatred of the "ghost flailing around in fast motion" visual that seemed to be all the rage in horror movies for a solid decade.
This is one of the movies I watch every Halloween Holiday season. House on Haunted Hill, Frighteners, Alien, Aliens, The Terminator, The Thing, The Thing, and Event Horizon. Others are kind of sprinkled in but those are the mainstays.
Edit: The inkblot was actually a mirrored image. The left side is a mirror image of the right side of actual images.
The movie I was thinking of was Virus from 1999. Would also love to see Ghost Ship. Two great ship Horror movies.
Absolutely love Virus. A seriously underrated and unjustly maligned film.
Another great one was Deep Rising. Super fun film with plenty of intentional camp.
I remember watching this movie in 2006 when I was 9 years old and it was Halloween and, AMC movie channel in Canada was playing a Halloween marathon, let's just say I couldn't sleep for at least two weeks without the lights on in my room.
I’ve had it! I’ll walk! Now!
You give me my god-damned check right now! Because I want it! So you give it! Pritchard steals the show for me
This movie is a classic. I absolutely love this channel. They can make every movie you've seen a hundred times more enjoyable than the first time you watched it. Keep rocking you guys! 😎👍🏽
It’s been over two decades since I watched this movie, and it’s difficult to tell in the YT edited video, but I remember there being a mid-credits scene wherein Price and his wife (or their ghosts?) are tormented by the Psycho Doctor and his staff in the operating room - supposedly for all eternity.
Considering that “The House” invited the descendants of the 5 survivors of the 1930s massacre, the implication was that CG Black Ooze Creature was the gestalt evil spirits of the criminally insane inmates who died, and they wanted to finish the job. However, the Psycho Doctor and other staff members were clearly also haunting the place, so I don’t understand why in the mid-credits scene they were shown tormenting Price and his wife after they were devoured by the CG Ooze Creature, instead of being attacked by the mob of inmates.
But I don’t think the movie is supposed to make sense - it’s just a hacky horror movie with some decent jump scares and a few gimmicky twists. It’s not the worst horror movie ever but definitely not a classic.
If you want to watch a better horror movie starring Famke Janssen I recommend Deep Rising (1998).
for a better version of a movie in an abandoned hospital i recommend grave encounters and gonjiam: haunted asylum
Or "Session 9", which takes place in the actual Danvers State Hospital in Massachusetts. Very creepy.
The original with Vincent Price is a classic and a must-see! I hope you react to it.
I like this movie for it's own thing but was somewhat disappointed in the final ghost. I loved the music and casting, though!
Kris Katan or however you say his name lol the SNL (night at the Roxbury guy) is amazing in this film. My favorite of his.
Used to love this movie as a kid. Scared me to hell. Don’t recall it being such a head trip like this lol. It’s so weird lol
This is a good remake imo
There’s a post credits of the Price’s being tortured
One of my childhood favorites
16:21 The scene is downright funny for so many reasons. #1 The Sig Sauer P228 has a plastic frame so how would you even begin to "weld" the magazine into it. #2 Just like any semi automatic you can still eject and load the shells manually. Not a single one of them knows how to do that to tell if it's loaded with blanks or live rounds. #3 The weight of the gun especially with a plastic frame lets you know if it's loaded or not. #4 The P228 has a "round indicator" showing if the chamber is loaded but it's true this wouldn't reveal if it was loaded with blanks, and also this was offered as standard by Sig Sauer on the P228 in 1999, it has to be added later so these guys likely wouldn't have a round indicator in 1999.
One of last movies ever showed at Harlem Corners Theaters along with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban before it closed down, if anybody here is from the Southwest suburbs of Chicago you know what I'm talking about.
Not me watching this at Disneyland eating dinner sitting by rivers of America lol😂
this takes me back, Friday's in high school, went straight from school to the movies, send 2 or 3 movies, get home around 12, from the age of 16 onward...the only way to start a weekend, saw this one at the theatre, loved it then and now (i am old school in preffering practical effects, and not a fan of haunted house movies, mostly meh, but i do like this) the "Inkblot Ghost" or the Insanity Ghost, which is why Chris Kattan wasn't controlled by it, everyone possessed by it was either clinically insane or possessed a personality or mental disorder.....Clinical Sadist, Sociopath or Psychopath, etc
And Geoffrey Rush will always be a favourite of mine
I can't defend this movie as "good," but it's one of my go-to background noise films. If I ever need something playing in the background while doing dishes or cleaning up the place, House On Haunted Hill is one of my favorites. Just good, dumb fun.
Right what I love about is Jeffrey Combs character Dr. Vannacutt
I saw this at the theatre back in 99.
It’s a good ghost movie.
I love the way Doctor Bandicoot stopped walking motions and swinging that surgical. knife . Hey Mr. Movie. Why do you always scaring your misses? Watch House on Haunted Hill 2. It's just as crazier as number one.
LoL!! It's Dr. Vannacutt😆
Looking back, I should have not been watching this when I was 9 😅Really good movie though! Lol
This movie scared the shit outta me when I was young. Especially the thought of them being tortured and worked on for eternity.
Glad to return to your channel for another BANGER!!
I used to watch you for your Lost reactions! 😅
But seriously, this movie is just so fn awesome... I can't even describe it with words.
I would just say, there are movies, that are just TOO fn awesome... 🤩🤩🤩
And this is one of them.....
There is an after credit scene you missed.
Oh, yeah, I forgot about that. It's worth going back to look at.
I went and looked at it.. Wasn't really worth it.
7:55 This is either The Hulk, or The Constructicons roller coaster.
Did you ever see the film 'Shine' (1996). Geoffrey Rush was almost exclusively a stage actor in Australia before this came along and he won an Oscar for best actor. Not sure if it's one for the channel since it's an Australian movie but it's a compelling story with an incredible performance from Rush.
The original roller coaster tycoon is the bomb. I still bust it out every so often
I know this isn't a very good movie, but it's been a guilty pleasure of mine since I was a kid. The actors, and music of the time are just so nostalgic.
Speaking of those Blockbuster videos as product placement, seeing those Mentos next to the DVD makes me want some. 😅
24:12 traumatized me!!
Both this and the orginal with vincent price are both yearly required viewings in October.
Whoo! As a kid, this was the movie that introduced me to two of my favourite actors, Jeffrey and Geoffrey!
And by extension, it also introduced me to Marilyn Manson, Eurythmics and Vincent Price!
Fun memories. Real love/hate relationship with this movie, as it both terrified and delighted me!
Absolutely my favourite of the Dark Castle remakes.
Skip the sequel. It's not worth it.
The original with Vincent Price is great, too! It is also different enough to be a completely different experience from the remake!
I became a Jeffrey Combs horror fan from this character Dr vannacutt and the rest of his characters are really good too
So much the format of original v remake. Now it's " you dont need to see the original." Ohh-kay. That ended fast. (The original, by the way, has been recently released on Blu-ray in 3D! Be ordering my copy soon.
Oh yea, that Hulk ride is awesome. Went to Florida on vacation when I was in high school and me and my uncle ran from the end to the beginning so we could ride it multiple times. Because they had just opened, I think we rode 3 times before a line started forming.
I built a test version of this house lockdown system on Minecraft, it took HOURS to get the wiring right and I had to re do part of but it works like the movie
Always a good reaction video when Mrs.Movies gets jumped scared 😂
Holy heck I forgot about this movie. This used to be shown on TV all the time.
One of THE best haunted house movies. CGI be damned. Love it
Great reaction, guys! I've always had mixed feelings about this movie. it's great up until the darkness shows up. The weird creatures, the visions, and the ghosts that only show up on camera all make a great psychological scary, but the early digital darkness does kill it slightly.
I wish they showed more of Dr. Vannacutt
@@kaylamiller2024 that single clip of Vannacutt in the cctv is probably the best and most chilling 10 seconds of the film.
@@Agent.Bob58 exactly it really is the best just wish they showed more of him
Liked that one. It was well done keeping the audience in doubt what exaxctly is happening until the end.
Hah!... Could you like not breathe while you talk, that would be great... Such a interesting insight into life as Mr Movies.
anyone else notice that
REAL MEDICAL PROCEDURES
in movies
are more scary than the
horror movie violence ?
I was like, didn't they already watch this? No, it was Thirteen Ghosts, lol
I remember thinking this was a new type of scary. The end is kinda lame.
Depending on where the insulation is failing she could cause those sparks/connection wtihout being shocked.
A version of the sequel's blueray had the option of viewing it as a choose your own adventurer style where you could make choices on what they do or don't do and change things including who lived and died.
Very creepy, much better than The Haunting remake of the same year. I really love the set and sound design and Don Davis' music.
For my money the creepiest credit sequence and theme music, ever. And yes, the sets were the coolest thing in both films, The sets for "The Haunting" remake were great. It was just the acting, script and direction that sucked. The thing is, The original "The Haunting" is a film classic, not just a scary genre film. The original "The House on Haunted Hill" was a campy second rate horror movie with a plot that makes little sense, but had fun performances. It was ripe for a remake, whereas the original "The Haunting" is perfect, as-is. Why try to improve on it? Why do people try to remake excellent originals? How can you win? Why not find a bad old film with potential and remake it into something good?
YOU MISSED THE BEST PART OF THE MOVIE!!! Go back and watch the POST CREDITS SCENE to see Stephen and Evelyn's fate in one of the scariest endings I've ever seen to a horror film.
I very much prefer the original while it is cheesy B horror movie fun Vincent Price really holds it together. It has plenty of jump scares and one of the things it does that this film doesn't is leave open is the house haunted or was this all games by Price's character and his wife. Because there is a big mystery to the original and it's definitely worth a watch. That said I did enjoy Geoffrey Rush's take on Price.
