I've been through this on many old cars. Corrosion sets in, the wiring gets warm from bad grounds, someone tries to repair the melted mess with butt connectors, and then I buy the mess from them.
Nick thanks 71 yr old disabled homebody really looks forward to giving us a glimpse of your abilities, which are amazing thanks again Nickster DantheMan
The dash and its components fascinate me. Imagine draftsman and engineers laying this out, on a drafting board no computer, the pushbutton transmission pod, it looks one piece but it has to be a casting, right? Even the right side panel is so intricate, all the different shapes, must have been quite a die to stamp that. Really nice work Nick.
You can run an ammeter with an alternator, but you are absolutely correct about the fire hazard. Voltmeter is the better way. Also loved those Xcelite nut drivers. I have had the same set for over 30 years!
A very nice episode. Understanding how spring back works comes with experience. I see you are using yours to your best advantage. The final fit up on the dash is superb. Because you did not cut it no one will know that it isn't the original stock layout. Your modifications and tweaks will be hidden from the casual onlooker. The fins turned out real nice too. The fit and finish looks stock. The restyling on this car is hidden so well that you are truly creating automotive art. Kudos to your efforts. This is what makes your channel such an interesting watch. Thank You!
nicely done as alays ! There are just so many things that have to be done that most don't really know about so I'm really glad that you're showing all the little steps. Plus It's nice that you take time to show the features that were really smart for the time ! Personally I like redoing the wiring and detail things because like you said it's never enough time to get the battery unhooked ! I've seen too many rat nests of wiring that made you wonder why anything but dumb luck was keeping it going. I guess it's because people thought it was easy ... I guessed they learned or you hope that they did ! Well until next video have a great week !
Nick if this car look anything like the 50s shoe box car body that was fitted to late model car this will be perfect(a56 era car shortened and made into a 2door and a shorten roof tilted windshield)This car be perfect and look pretty much factory from the past Nice video
I find with a friend like fat Jack you can do just about anything ... most radios of that era had the pull and set buttons ... the real cool onea were the wonderbar radios ... nuthin says cool like fins ...
If you look at the dash of a mid seventies Cadillac the idiot light says GEN. The boys at Cadillac maintained because the output terminal was DC current that it was a generator.
@@iNVisionPrototypes An ammeter’s coil measures the voltage across a low ohm resistor within the meter if there are heavy gauge wires running to it. By placing an equivalent resistor in both ohms and watts across the terminals the meter will read half value. A 30 amp meter can easily handle a 42 amp alternator and still give an indication of charging and discharging.
@@iNVisionPrototypes I have Deuteranopia colorblindness with some red visibility, it’s sort of a weird one. Honestly had no clue till I tried to join the army as a kid and the optometrist start laughing at me during my physical 😂🤦🏻♂️

A supporting roll Oscar for Jack.
Maybe this comment will not be book length. The saying..... Its the littlest things in life that make the biggest changes. Great as always.
So true!

Details for the parts are amazing!! That's why we're taking the 56 in the direction we are. Thanks for watching!

My first car had a "valve" radio that took ten minutes to warm up before any sound came out. The good old days?
Or as my Dad use to say, "Good old days, Hell".
Don't you mean a tube radio?
@@chrisallen2005 Yes, but I'm in the UK
@stephenwhite5057 lol!
The fin is looking fintastic!
Great!!
Nick i think you should give Jack a bells🥃🥃
Great idea! 👍
Jack can be a good stand-in for Yah-Hootie (mythological Norwegian helper). I notice you work without background music.
What do you mean no background music? It's there... all the time... in my head LOL! Yah-Hootie, gotta remember that one. Thanks for watching!!

“ Not a big fan of cutting things apart “ Have you looked at that car??😂
LOL!!
Those cigarette lighters were also good for melting small circles into the vinyl seats
or skin... saw it in a movie once
Great work
Wow. Better. You than. Me. Hood. Luck. Thanks ❤❤❤❤
A round of applause for Jacques!
Most of those light sockets come apart and new wires can be soldered to them. I have done it to a couple of cars I had when I was young.
Thanks for the tip!
Nick u can unsoder ternal inside light socket to replace wire did this on 55chevy
Hi Scott, Thanks for the tip !!
It probably wouldn't fit with the build, But, wrapping that dash in carbon fiber would look amazing!
Hi David! Might do that for the upcoming 74 Charger build. What were you thinking fabric or a vinyl wrap?
@@iNVisionPrototypes I was thinking hydro dipping. Cheap and effective
Nick, work ! I like that you're using the old dash pieces. It will make it fit the time period more.
Thanks!
Nice!!!! Hope you make Jack a permanent addition to the channel!!! LOL!!!
Ok. As a matter of fact his relative will be making an appearance this coming Friday!
napa has replacement pig tails with the spring for your dash lights
Thanks very much for the TIP! Gonna look into that.
excellent
Thanks!!
👍
Nick thats not alu. its white metal or pot metal like they made window crank handels out of
Thank you for the info. Thinking back, guess I should have done a 'scratch test'.
Don't worry everyone calls them idiot lights.
Gotta be careful on the Tube. Even though it's May still get snowflakes. 😂
You mean the old TVs didn’t have fly back transformers. They had dual channel power supplies which were deadly.
Flyback xformers generated a high voltage that was used to control the horizontal movement of the electron beam in the old CRTs.
@@iNVisionPrototypes No, flybacks replaced dual channel..These days they are both old.
If you look at the dash of a mid seventies Cadillac the idiot light says GEN. The boys at Cadillac maintained because the output terminal was DC current that it was a generator.
Interesting!!
Just the sides?
@@iNVisionPrototypes The ends too I guess.

Dash sounds like metal use a magnet, it does not sound like aluminum.

Oh god a colorblind car guys most dreaded UA-cam video… wiring! 😫😫😫😂😂
