Just stopped by because I'm starting a job as one of the guys that monitor and maintain those wells in a few weeks and wanted to get an idea of why the job exists. Kinda neat that, technically, landfills recycle a substantial chunk of the garbage in them into something we can use to heat our homes and create electricity.
I did just that job for ten years for Cornwall council. I monitored seven sites across Cornwall collecting leachates, ground and stream water and monitoring boreholes and gas wells. I also operated leachate treatment plants and gas flare stacks. It can be a lonely time so get used to your own company and you will get to know yourself. Keep warm in winter and wear insect repellent in summer. Carry a bottle of after bite just in case. Enjoy your chosen job. Good luck. Steve. Now lives in Bulgaria 😊
I design landfill gas collection system. We're moving toward renewable natural gas where gas are collected, processed, and sold as green. Many landfill will collect gas and burn it at the flare station, but that will soon be a thing of the past.
SE louisiana at denham springs and watson on i12 smells so bad and disgusting it will make you sick when driving on the interstate. I have no idea how people can live in that area, no idea.
Here’s an idea, what if we just stopped burying our valuable resources? Organic can be composted, metals can be reshaped, as can glass, plastic is nearly worthless but we can figure something out there (stop making so much plastic) Especially metals though
Collected and sold you say.. that's interesting. I'm actually in a landfill right now and what prompted me to look up this video is that this particular landfill who shall remain Walkers, collect the gas and then from what it appears here, simply burns it off. What a waste.
And this is why I wouldn’t want to work in one. My father got Parkinson’s (only one I know from his 8 siblings to have it and he is the YOUNGEST of ALL of them.) He was a garbage truck driver for over 25 years. Not saying it was 100% the landfill’s fault, but we will never know if it was or not because it would be an IMPOSSIBLE fight in court or proven otherwise. I guess companies have their lawyers in order and people who work in landfills are very few compared to other occupations. And it depends on what is being researched. Remember, where there is leachate, there is also TCE. Which is not only known to cause cancer, but also numerological disorders. It also easily can go to organs from drinking it AND breathing air from the soil being wet from rain and heated from warmer days.
If the landfill is flooded with leachate, will the gas escape and cause fire in the landfill ? Is it better to just burn the garbage in the incinerator ?
@@dougrogan379 Don't worry. The modern incinerators are equipped with smoke filters for particulate, acid gas, and, in many cases, dioxin and mercury removal.
Sedementation is key and making somerging chemically on quantam mechanics and bio mechanics where you can turn rubbish into sedemements and back into ground. Those pipes can be used as as a sprinkler system to release a good chemical and turn rubbish into sedementation

Yup we shouldn't waste the methane. Turn it into methanol with catalyst films.
How to deal with corrosive sulfate
Thank you

Methane can be used on a sterling engine from Austria to generate 6 kwatts of power imagine various engines?
Immediately searched to see if Steve O or some idiot has drank leachate lmao

Oh what mankind has done to this poor planet. It’s all about profits.

Is it not also the case that sulphur is produced which has a cooling effect on the climate by reflecting sunlight back into space?

Do you want that pollution in the air?
