Kidthump this may answer your question please read to the end I hope this helps You can’t build anything on a landfill for 40-50 years because the ground has to settle from the garbage buried in the ground the cement and road tar ground would crack from the ground settling you also have the methane gas vents in the ground after the landfill closes so there is no methane gas explosion the point of the methane gas vents is to vent out the methane from when food waste decomposes when buried the methane gas vents go all the way to the bottom of the landfill they are installed after the landfill closes there is a shopping complex that was built on a old landfill in Garfield heights Ohio look it up it is called the city view center :)
Can landfills be reused in the future, could you ever grow trees on them? Also wouldn't a biological process be beneficial in the system.
