But in reality most of it is still good to eat for days and sometimes even weeks. Also distributors are to blame for this aswell. Many fruits and vegetables with small imperfections get thrown away before they even reach the stores.

During the Great Depression in the USA, residents of Chicago would go through the landfills searching for food.
Certain restaurants, convenient stores and grocery stores trash a lot of product once the expiration date is near or passes. Milk is one of those items.

I'll never understand how it's legal to throw food away for example: I use to work at a banana and potato plantation and if the banana or potato doesn't meet the specific size criteria it gets thrown away. And when I mean thrown away, it gets crushed and shredded through this machine. Such a waste of food that could be given out to the poor. Nobody on this earth should be eating out of the dumpster.

Here in the states if companies gave food away that hasn't been approved by the FDA and somebody gets sick or dies they can get sued making it pointless to sell anything bc of the lawsuit costs.

@@darksideorbit8898 it's not farmers. It's the ppl who are in the factories that process the food that come from the farmers. If the company that makes a product sees a blemish then they throw it out bc it makes them look bad. There have been cases though where ppl have eaten food and gotten sick and sued the company from where it had come from.

The sad thing is companies can't afford to give food to the poor. If they give old food, they would get sued to oblivion, so they have to throw it away. The cost of also moving 'old food' would, I assume, cost more than just throwing it away.

It is a real pity for these poor people. It touched my heart within. I always try not to waste my food ever and have never done so since I am an adult. I request people from all over the world please give your food to the poor if not used or the used ones rather than throwing them in the trash and saving their lives from disasters like accidents and diseases and working there for their livings.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏.

Maybe send some of your administration to India. They can learn from us how we are removing our legacy landfills and then implement that in your country.
