    People say you're either a Friends or a Seinfield fan. But the greatest sitcom from that era was undoubtedly this one.

      Never watched Friends, seldom watch Seinfeld, never miss Frasier. Today's writers weren't paying attention. In fact, most of them hadn't been born when these shows were written. It's reruns for me!! "Frasier" Rules!!!

    What I think was a great part of Frasier that we don't see these days is that in the show, there was never an unassailable person. Everyone ribbed on everyone and whilst it might have strayed a bit into mean, it was never cruel.
    Take Big Bang Theory, where Leonard screwed with Sheldon's experiment in the Arctic. That was cruel.

      Or in Parks & Rec where everyone ganged up on Gary/Larry/Jerry. Other shows did that, and I hated it. Like you said, on Frasier, everyone teased the other and nothing was cruel.

      Sorry I'm late to the party, I just found this jewel. Agree; another example is on Friends. I never cared much for the show to begin with and the scene with Chandler and Monica did it for me. I don't remember what season or episode; long story short, she wanted him to go jogging and he was too lazy, and he insulted her to the point of tears. I know that it's a sitcom,just an act, yada yada. It rubbed me the wrong way.

    Not a huge fan of Frasier, but there were some good zingers here.
    I think what has always bothered me about this show is that Fraiser could easily have been a closeted gay man...and maybe even been funnier for it. While Niles character seems gay, but he doesn't exert as much effort to hide in the closet. Ironic, since David Hyde Pierce is actually gay.

    • @eduardo_corrochio
      @eduardo_corrochio Рік тому +3

      Just my opinion but I don't see much humor in a gay man living in the closet, hiding his true identity by living a lie in front of family and friends. It's probably already been done on sitcoms (maybe not the main character). But I did it in real life from my youth through the end of college (back in the late 1980s) and it was the furthest thing from fun. Essentially, one is pretending to be someone else, all the time. Very squelching. Mind you, I am not a flamboyant gay man by any means; but it was stifling not being myself.
      Also: maybe Frasier Crane actually _was_ a closeted gay man for those eleven years. Anything's possible. ;-)
