"you're my penicillin, the one who saved me." penicillin is an antibiotic thats used to treat a wide range of infections, and was actually discovered after a doctor left a petri dish with a certain type of bacteria on it (i cant remember what exactly) and came back after a holiday to find mold that was preventing the bacteria from growing around it. " i am your calico cat, the one who came to meet you." a calico cat is a tri-coloured cat and interestingly, male calico cats are a genetic anomaly, so most of them are female. jimin is a male, so he's telling the person in question he feels as if he is special to them, and that the the rare occurrence of the two of them meeting is the universe's doing. both of these references are serendipitous ( 😉) in that they seem to be the universe, fate, destiny, coincidence, whatever you want to call it's, doing.
-this is just me spit balling lmao im just remembering from when i analyzed this song years ago so some stuff might be a bit off but of course everything is open to interpretation-

❣JIMIN, born October 13, 1995, at age 11, started studying, performing, & competing (winning every competition), in hip hop, popping (excelled), & street dancing, while attending the renowned Just Dance Academy in Busan where he's from! He was so good that an instructor even had the high tuition fee waived at one point! This was while also attending middle school, where he loved sports, being quite athletic, joined the football team, excellent at track, great at basketball, & billiards! Jimin also, all throughout his schooling, was known as a top scholar, achieving perfect scores, especially in math & science which just always came easy to him! Jimin was even class president for 9 yrs in a row! Jimin, all throughout his schooling, was also quite good in art class, as well as calligraphy.
Jimin, then also took up contemporary dance. The media, after seeing a performance of Jimin's performing at a huge Busan Festival Event, called Jimin "The rising star of Busan"!! JIMIN also studied ballet & traditional Korean dance while attending Busan High School of the Arts. Jimin still went to Just Dance Academy to take hip hop classes whenever he could because his first love has always been hip hop, even though he was now majoring in contemporary! JIMIN even had an offer to dance overseas, but declined because he also wanted to become a singer since the 2nd grade, to the dismay of one of his dance instructors who said "The world of dance was going to lose a great artist"!!
So Jimin then went and auditioned for BigHit Entertainment, (company BTS is signed with), being the very last member to join, being a trainee for only a few months (which is unheard of for most Kpop idols), as opposed to the 2-3 yrs of being a trainee the other members had! But Jimin was so good that he was assigned the official title of one of the two Main Dancers, as well as Lead Vocalist. Jimin was even assigned most of the high notes since the very beginning, because even without all that training in the beginning, he was that good, a natural born singer who, just like his dancing makes you feel every emotion and feeling he's trying to convey!
JIMIN, also, for 8 yrs, since a quite young boy, trained in various forms (4), of martial arts: Taekwondo (Blackbelt), Hapkido, Kumdo (Korean form of Kendo), & Chinese martial arts. He even won a scholarship, the only student to do so, to study more extensively in China for awhile! All the martial arts training has given JIMIN his phenomenal inner core strength, as well as his amazing flexibility, which has enabled Jimin to achieve all those breathtakingly spectacular gravity defying dance moves! JIMIN has found a way to incorporate all his various dance disciplines, as well as his extensive training in martial arts into his unique, ever so special, outstandingly amazing dancing abilities!!
JIMIN, has been called 'Stage Commander', known for his amazing, so mesmerizing stage presence. Lovely reaction! This song was written by RM who is a genius cerebral poet for his beloved brother Jimin. The two of them have a beautiful loving bond and support for each other. The song can also be interpreted for the Army. It asks if people meet and relationships are by chance or fate? The way the cosmos move to put everything in place and if we think it is by chance. The inference to penicillium and the rare male Calico cat is about rarity and almost against all odds of a good and beautiful thing happening. Jimin is a gifted performer with a mezmerising stage presence. A counter tenor with an angelic and unique voice. An accomplished dancer that is the best in kpop. Every single work of Jimin's is a masterpiece and work of art.

This song is from Love Yourself: Her, which is the first of the Love Yourself trilogy. To sum up LY: Her in a sentence, it is about the honeymoon phase of a relationship when you like each other a lot and see only the good in each other. So yes this is song is definitely about a romantic relationship imo.

Sorry to be late to the party, but this is the first song on the Love Yourself: Her album, which is about the giddy joys of new love. This is where you get JK's solo Euphoria, Dimple, Pied Piper, DNA, etc. The next in the series, Love Yourself: Tear, is about the collapse of that love if you don't bring your authentic self to the relationship. So you get's V's Singularity, Fake Love, and Tear. Finally, Love Yourself: Answer has Jin's Epiphany--you have to accept and love yourself first before you can love someone else honestly.
The performance was from the absolutely incredible Osaka concert. Worth watching in its entirety.

Singularity, Serendipity, Epiphany and Euphoria are all written to coexist together and explaining different parts/stages of relationships (not necessarily just with a significant other etc but also with friendships, family and oneself). They are part of the Love Yourself series which is broken up into 3 different albums (serendipity is on “HER”, singularity is on “TEAR” euphoria and epiphany on “ANSWER”) hence why the vibes can be seen as continuous or similar in some aspects musically. Each has its own MV to accompany it - you’ve now reacted too all of them if I’m not mistaken, and as you’ve seen they are by the vocal line ☺

It's not penicillin, but penicillium, which is the blue mould that is used to create penicillin. Fun facts: This was Jimin's intro song, which is why it's so short, but ARMYs loved it so much, that RM wrote an extended, full length version. Also, each album has an intro and outro song... these are usually solo songs, and the members each get to perform them by rotation.

yeah "Serendipity" means "a development of events by chance in a happy/beneficial way". Penicillin was discovered by accident when a scientist decided to test this blue mold that grew on his petri dish. So the song is about fate and how these chance encounters brought us together.

I mean, bts leave their songs open for interpretation but Serendipity is clearly about a couple deeply in love with some very sensual references 😄
i will quote jimin himself talking about the penicillium line: "it's a vaccine to cure a once incurable disease. so it means that you are my saviour and i live because of you"
and then also his own words about the calico cat line: "most of the calico cats are female, i heard. but i'm a man. i exist only for you. i'm your calico cat, i exist only for you and i'm yours"
i find both cases very other person centered, as the rest of the song. you are my savior, my angel, my world, etc. which is sweet for sure, but also dangerous if this is the foundation of your relationship
comeback trailers are like introductions to the upcoming albums, it's the first song you hear prior the release and it gives you the general theme and direction the album is going to head to

in LY:Her we are introduced to a love full of devotion and passion, so assured that it's been destined to be so, you can find such rhetoric through the whole album, the brightest example that comes to mind is the tittle track DNA. the person that is in love is so absorbed in this feeling and in the other person, that it blinds them
so then LY:Tear (second album of the trilogy) is where the love we thought is so perfect falls apart and reveals all the crutches it's been holding on: trying to be who the other person would be able to love instead of being yourself, being untruthful to yourself, neglecting yourself, no being able to hold on to who you've become anymore and losing the other person as a result. you will find this rhetoric throughout the songs: i don't know me, i don't have a voice, i revolve around you but you forgot my name, i am ugly, i am afraid to show myself
the final album of the trilogy, LY:Answer brings us on the path of realization that we have to love ourselves first before loving someone else and that's how one can build a healthy relationship. the key thought of this album is "i am learning how to love myself and nothing can stop me on this path that is so needed, and even my mistakes are what makes me me"
Serendipity as an opener shows us a mindset that we will question and change later. from "you are me, i am you" with three albums it becomes "you are you and i am me and we still can love each other"

BTS loves to leave songs up for the interpretation of the listener. A calico cat is a tri-colored cat, usually mostly white. Penicillium is a blue mold that is very important mold to the eco system. The drug penicillin is derived from it. Penicillin is used to treat and cure a lot of diseases.

let me tell you, it's not uncommon for BTS songs to be layered or has more than 2 interpretations depending on perspective. they rarely mean love as in romantic interest, it's usually the the relationship between themselves, their relationship with fame, or for armys.

Because of genetics, male cats can only be one or two colors, not three. Therefore, other than the rare genetic oddity, all calico cats are female. Male calicos are actually called the "unicorn of cats" because they are so rare. So, Jimin, being a male calico, is saying that he's a very rare and unique type of person. The "blue mold" is the origin for penicillin. One of the first antibiotics effective against bacteria infections and it did actually save a lot of lives. That's what he's referring to when he said that the blue mold saved him. You were wondering which interpretation of the song would be correct but it's doesn't have to be just one. I've seen BTS songs that, when combined with the visuals of the MV can have as many as five different meanings and all of them be correct. BTS is REALLY good and having songs with multiple meanings.

I am mystified that you don't know penicillin, it was the first discovered antibiotic, and saved millions of lives in the twentieth century. Jimin's lyrics always surprise us.
The second runthrough is all mixed up, I believe it is the video that goes with the song Promise. Penicillin was a "blue mould"

I definitely read it as being about a romantic relationship, and in a very beautiful way. I don’t know for sure if I am right, but it seems very obvious to ME who he is singing to and about as the line “You are I, I am you “ is a very special thing he shares with a certain fellow BTS member. But yeah… for now Jimin isn’t in a publicly confirmed relationship with anyone, so it is up to you to decide how you interpret it 😊

The first lyric video you reacted to was not an official BTS lyric video this is an official BTS music video or rather a not really music video an intro video for albums so it's official lyrics. Official lyric videos are the color-coded lyric videos.
