Probably one of the greatest protagonist introductions in film history. This kind of introduction is usually how you establish the villain of a movie to show just how formidable they are. But this movie does the opposite of having the villain introduce us to how powerful the protagonist is.
Michael Nyqvist (1960-2017) was brilliant as the Russian crime boss Viggo Tarasov. Very expressive and intense even - or particularly - when using few words.
Which is delivered by 2 different characters. Father AND son. Viggo Tarasov when Aurelio hits his son Josef and then learns why. What else could he say BUT "Oh." Then Josef says it again here, echoing his father's brief chat with Aurelio. So it's one great line? Said by two characters.
The build up to 'he will come for you' is great direction - the oscars would underestimate this film because its popular - but its so much more than that.
Everyone asks, "isn't that mayhem from the commercials?" Yes he is. Also he was on Season 1 of Law and Order SVU until his character saw too much and went over to homicide because SVU was too much for most cops. Living victims are way harder to stomach than dead ones.
Fun fact. After the movie was made. Some time afterwards that gave the character of john Wick a comic book mini series. It reveals some history and birthday of the character of September 2, 1964. The birthday of Keanu Reeves is September 2, 1964. In the comics they honored Keanu Reeves by giving the character his birthday. What's funny is the astrology sign of Virgo dates are August 23 - September 22. Many people don't put much thought into that Astrology stuff. Which is understandable. However the way the character is write and Keanu Reeves as a driven person. A sheer force of will in his acting and training for movies like The matrix and John Wick. The read things about the sign virgo. It will make you wonder.
Infinite thanks Keanu Reeves to create the perfect antihero: a man with a criminal past, a killer reedemed by love, forced back to business to destroy the same organization he once defended when he realized how it destroys everything, even the most precious memories of his wife. We need see John against the High Table. We need John Wick 5.
Iosef is a stereotypical character: the Punk Son of a Mob Boss who thinks he's untouchable because of his father. There's a 1991 movie named "Run" which had the same type of character. The Punk Son walks into a bar and acts like he owns the place and can do whatever he wants. Wick reminds of Deadshot from the DC Comics. Deadshot doesn't care if he dies, but there is one thing you never do: threaten his family. When someone kidnapped his son, he went on a one-man murder mission, killing everyone who stood between him and his son.
Underrated detail in this scene: Viggo gave his son vodka before punching him in the gut, making him throw up. And with vodka being the way it is, that's gonna hurt something fierce coming back up.
it's also the cheap stuff, which is why Vigo doesn't drink after salut, but instead pours himself another glass from another bottle (presumably the good stuff).
Actually? He kills at least a few guys with a pencil in Parabellum. Also with at least one book. I always found it surprising that nobody mentions the fact that John literally makes the guy he kills with a library book? Eat his words. Felt like I was the only one who caught that. Anyway. Maybe it's only a joke to me because I'm the only dork to get that reference. "I'll make you eat those words one of these days." (Also why I liked Alpha Bits cereal as a kid and even now as an adult: Every time you ate/eat it? You're eating your own words. But then I'm a writer so I'm probably the only dork who got that joke, too. Hm.) And that's John's first kill in Parabellum.
In John Wick Chapter 2, he actually kills at least 1 guy with a pencil. Sorry it wasn't 3, but you see HOW it does it. And, just a reminder, IU said this years ago. It is VIGGO'S fault for not telling his own son who John Wick is/was and NEVER mess with him. But, if Viggo had done that, then we would not have an AWESOME movie to watch. 👍👍
Here's my question. How long ago did John get out? Let's say 10 years at most? Probably 5. He didn't know the son back then? Seems odd. I would love a prequal to this, assuming it's done properly.
@@chucknorris5141 4 1/2 years. The son should gave known about John. Personally I think that is a movie mistake overlooked by viewers because that is probably the only mistake in this movie. (IMO)
"He didn't hear a f**king word I said!"
Every father of a teenage son knows exactly how that feels.
Have said about both my son and my daughter. 😅
"You know you are a bad dude when a bad dude says you are a bad dude."

All praise to Michael Nyquist. The man played his role so good. And just as we were starting to know him, he sadly passes away.
“You will do nothing, because you can do nothing!” Is a terrifying line. 💀🥀🪦
"He was the one you sent to kill the fucking Boogeyman."
Gotta be one of the best lines in action movie history.
Concur. It didn't just make John sound more dangerous; it made John sound more dangerous by a power of 10.

Reactors: "No, You Can't!"

Greatest line in the movie. "Oh..."

The baba yaga part is so amazing. In plain common words... he was not the hitman. He was the one you sent to kill the hitman.
No. Boogeyman was the one you sent to kill Hitman. And John wick is the man you sent to kill Boogeyman.
Nah fam. Boogeyman is the thing of your nightmares. John Wick is the guy you send to kill that thing which is fear. He becomes the fear.
@@mav4031 and what do you think a mobster fears most?

"Oh." The two-letter syllable that launched a four-movie franchise.

I honestly blame the dad for never mentioning John wick to his son at all. Definitely someone who should be talked about possibly.

Yes it is Mayhem. The actor's name is Dean Winters. In addition to Mayhem? He used to be on the first 2 seasons of Law & Order: SVU.

Wow Mike. Insecure much? Overcompensating much? You wish John Wick had bad dreams about you. In your dreams dude.

Little did the High Table know that when they made John Wick into the emissary of death, they made the one who would put them on their knees.
