    M270 MLRS are Himars on speed. Using the same ammo and missiles as Himars, but M270 have 12 missils and Himars 6 missiles. One M270 same firepower as 2 Himars. Norway delivered 3 fully upgrated M270 to Ukraine in middle Juli, but later i have read they now have sent 9 more. I doubt it, but i know Norway in fact had 12 of them, so maybe. It would be extremly important for Ukraine. 12 M270 same firepower as 24 Himars. M270 death zone 1000X1000 meter and Himars death zone 500X500 meters. A lot of hits credited Himars in fact was from M270 MLRS system.

      M270 is good, but HIMARS is easier to use. Now that the rockets can be guided you may not need to launch the full Monty of 12 to take out a target (back in the day -- target meant artillery unit, HQ, SAM site or battalion in the open)

    Finland should upgrade all of 'em to the highest standard, double the amount and get ATACMS and M30 DPICM rockets well as more GMLRS and ER GMLRS. They should be protected by one NASAMS 3 per 12 M270's, with one NASAMS launcher per 6 M270's and one STARStreak Rapid Ranger per 3 M270's. So one main unit is 12, further divided to two units of 6 and further divided to two units of three.

    • @omegaz3393

      @Ari Lehtiniemi
      ATACMS are of very limited supply. They haven't been manufactured in years nor will they be.
      They are being replaced with a new rocket that is much better with a range of 499km+.
      They are smaller. Fits 2 to a pod instead of 1. And they are much cheaper. Possibly 30% cheaper then the GMLRS rockets the U.S. is providing to Ukraine now.
      One thing not mentioned in the video. All these rockets warheads are being redesigned. No more bomblets as to many don't explode and become a problem later both for friendly troops and civilians. They will now use 1000's of shards and be able to set the point of air burst. You can take out a lot of troops with these even if they are in trenches.
      Note in the video.
      Norway is retiring all their M-270's. I'm guessing that rather then upgrading older units, they will just purchase the newer version.

    We sold ours over a decade ago due to the anticipated resistance to the submunition used and high maintenance costs due to low numbers. We are now looking into the double launcher on a local truck together with the MARS systems and subsystems so we can do joined maintenance with the German army. But the likelihood of this is low we will probably end up with more PzH-2000 as those have a lower operating cost or possibly even the Boxer RCH 155 mm.

    Most interesting to learn more of this weapon system.
    Several years ago, I had begun to build three of the Dragon 1:35th- scale kits of this vehicle. One would be completely buttoned up for firing, its rear housing elevated, and one missile away.
    Another had its driver's door open, showing the cab interior, which I had super-detailed. Its weapons system I would turn 90° to the left in preparation for replenishment. Revell AG had re-boxed Italeri's 1:35th-scale kit of the Oshkosh M-977 Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT), the 8×8 10-tonne armoured transport; this one included the trailer adding additional packs of the missiles. I would incorporate this second kit in a diorama depicting the MLRS receiving new munitions. I also would add to this display Italeri's 1:35th-scale kit of the Oshkosh M-978 Armoured Fuel Truck, based upon their HEMTT kit.
    A third I had planned to be under- going field servicing with a support vehicle in the process of extracting its engine and transmission (combined with the radiator into an integrated whole), a replacement powerpack close to hand. This would include Italeri's Oshkosh M-977 HEMTT kit, modified with an aftermarket conversion kit to make a replica of the MMRS Heavy Recovery Vehicle.

      500km with the newest missile and the older ATACMS has a range of 300km. A 1,000-mile missile would have to be the size of a Tomahawk, which the Marines are now mounting two each in armored box launchers on the back of a semi.

    • @gruntusmc8922
      @gruntusmc8922 2 роки тому

      @John Pennington; Sir, the HIMARS Weapons platform should be complemented with a couple hundred Tomahawk Cruise Missiles.
      Although it can be "a double edge sword" for having a range of aprox 800+ km, if Ukraine use them wisely and not to target Russian cities they'd be ok. Mr. Putin will use the attack on his cities as a pretext to use Nuclear Weapons against Ukraine, putting in danger the whole planet and 3 Billion+ lives. But I think that 200 Tomahawks & 250 Harpoon Anti-Ship Missiles will be of great help to Ukraine and while the Tomahawk loiters for a good target a couple Himars may be also launched to keep the Russians
      "off- balance" and also Tomahawks are very effective against The Russian Fleet that's threatening the south of Ukrania and if combined with Harpoons antiship missiles it could be the sinking of the Black Sea Fleet. In the meantime keep hitting their supply depots and troops concentrations.
      To the Ukrainians:
      Never give up!, "To give up it's NOT an option"!. "The harder the fight the sweeter the victory". Our prayers are with all the people Country of Ukraine and they've earned the RESPECT of the Free World Countries.🙏🙏🙏💪💪
      Keep up the good job!.

    M-270 versus HIMARS.
    M-270 is a tracked vehicle that is all terrain and because of the tracks can carry 12 versus 6 rockets. But it is slower.
    The HIMARS is a 6 wheel vehicle and can only carry 6 rockets because of this. It is limited terrain and primarily a road vehicle.
    It can shoot and scoot much faster.
    Beyond that, they both perform the same tasks.

    while the MLRS is tracked - therefore truly mobile, not limited to roads.

    • @mtaylor44
      @mtaylor44 2 роки тому +4

      HIMARS is NOT limited to roads. Why do you think that? It has excellent cross-country mobility. The tracked MLRS can handle rougher terrain because it is tracked, it is better protected, and has twice the firepower. But HIMARS is much quicker to deploy because it is lighter and it is wheeled. So yes, it is indeed "high mobility".

    • @mtaylor44
      @mtaylor44 2 роки тому +2

      @@hardtackbeans9790 HIMARS is too heavy for that. It needs a C-130 or larger aircraft. The CH-53 is barely rated to lift the weight of a HIMARS but I think it is far too close to do it safely. I don't know if that has even been tested anyway, as everything I have read only lists the C-130 or larger. The US Marines tested a new doctrine to rapidly move HIMARS (HIRAIN missions), but they are using C-130 type aircraft and not CH-53s, so that should tell you that it just isn't or cannot be done by helicopter. The Russian MI-26 is another that could possibly do it, but Ukraine does not have that helicopter and I seriously doubt the US has tested it (even if they have one or have access to one). I would not consider the HIMARS as air-transportable by helicopter.

    3:59 Wrong. Cluster munitions like the M77, which were used in the Gulf War, are banned (even the USA has committed to not using cluster weapons). If you are interested the reason is that they constitute a threat to civilians because of the spread of the munitions (around the military target) and because the failure rate leaves many dangerous and unexploded munitions after the battle/conflict which can and do kill innocent civilians. I have mixed feelings about this: it is good to protect civilians but also cluster weapons are much more effective in degrading the opposition (nine times or more than unitary warheads).

      Not quite so fast. US is not a signature of the cluster munitions agreement. The cluster munitions were to be destroyed but Trump ordered they be retained and used. @@kaptainkaos1202 What you say is largely correct but look at when the US has recently used them: a single attack in Yemen 2009 (Iraq, 2003 before that).There is a justifiable fear that the use of what are now generally (and possibly unfairly) agreed to be "indiscriminate" cluster weapons could be grounds for war crimes charges - regardless of the fact that the US, as you correctly say, is not a signatory to the relevant agreement. The US "ban" is tacit, rather than explicit or legislation based. I think we are on the same page.

    The defeat of Russia will change the life and fate of its neighbors (Forecast of the philosopher Mikhail Aroshenko, the city of Dnipro, Ukraine)
    *Geopolitical anatomy of Russia: head in Europe, heart in Siberia, and ass in Asia. Contradictions between head and ass inevitably lead to war... The historical genetics of Russia is the permanent seizure of foreign lands and property, the recognition of someone else's as one's own. The karma of Russia is the source of its troubles and defeats. When will the war in Ukraine end? The ancient Greek philosopher Plato argued that only the dead see the end of the war...
    * Roll call of centuries: .After the defeat in the Crimean War of 1853-56. The king abolished serfdom. After the defeat in the "Crimean War" 2014-2023. Russia will lose the status of "great military empire".
    * Just as the Stingers changed the course of the war in Afghanistan and led to the defeat of the USSR, so Excalibur, X-weapons, drones ... dramatically changed the situation at the front in favor of Ukraine. The Armed Forces of Ukraine received a unique experience in combat. As Mahatma Gandhi said: “One gram of your own experience is worth more than a ton of other people's instructions.”
    49 thousand soldiers and officers of the Russian Federation, 11 generals have already died in battles ... The flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, the cruiser Moskva, lies at the bottom. In the Crimea, at the airfield near Saki, in one day on 08/09/22, 23 aircraft and helicopters of the 43rd Sevastopol Aviation Regiment (half of all fleet aircraft) were destroyed or damaged. This high-tech attack will go down in the history of wars. There have been no such losses in the USSR-Russia since 1945. Russia has already lost 440 planes and helicopters. This is a blow to the ambitions of the Kremlin, which lost out to the new technologies of the war....
    * 51 countries of the planet supply Ukraine with effective weapons, equipment, ammunition, equipment, means of communication, money, food, medicines, modern technologies... The American billionaire Buffett came to Ukraine at the age of 92 (!) and sat at the helm of a harvester. Gave 50 combines and 50 tractors!
    * "Why do we need such a world if there is no Russia?" - said Putin. In the Caucasus, they answer: “Why do we need such a Russia, because of which there will be no peace? Russia is waiting for cardinal changes. To avoid sanctions, the USSR-2 will be created - the Siberian Soviet Social Republic with its center in Novosibirsk. Independent Tatarstan and a renewed Chechnya will receive support from Turkey .
    * Russia is waiting for years of rehabilitation and retribution for the manic desire to rewrite the history of the twentieth century, because the Kremlin has long suffered from imperial "political schizophrenia" - megalomania and persecution delusions. When everything else is lost, a person and a people still have a Future! A new stage of perestroika and renewal of Russia will begin. From the period of fear - to the world of curiosity, creative life, freedom of expression, creative economy and politics!

      its only in one place for a very short time, it moves once its fired, goes to replenish, again a very quick process about a 10th of the time of Russian systems. so unless its already being targeted by a Russian drone it's not there when counter battery fire arrives, as for the Russian Airforce it is conspicuous by its absence.
