@@dstrome I dunno. There are a number of examples of muppets having their faces rearranged, including the eyes, so some of them would probably be pretty blasé about it. See the "Vendaface" episodes, for example.
1:08 - "You have to shout Noise before you do it" Ohhh!! That's adorable! That's exactly what I have taught my family to do, when they turn on the garbage disposal! Cuz otherwise I jump outta my skin from the nasty surprise, really bad for my blood pressure lol. Once they understood why I asked, they do it now, and I really APPRECIATE the warning! I hope more people and places take this route. It's SO helpful for those of us who don't like surprises, and such a small thing to remember to do
2:41 - I have to believe Adam has a half-dozen ideas rolling around his head about how to make a storage cabinet for these. It'd make a great One Day Build video.
Wow, that brought back some great memories of when I worked there! The drawer of eyes was one of my favorites. And those mallets! I can still feel the weight of them, running around the halls, wielding them like Thor 😂
I hadn't realized realized that style of mallet was uncommon. I've used them at a couple of different jobs and I see leatherworkers use them. Way heavier than they look.
How very neat to be able to visit, vicariously through Adam, the space where Muppets and the like start their life journey. When she held up the “eyes” to Adam’s glasses I was all smiles. So cool, thanks for sharing, Adam.
That large punch they found is around the right scale for the pupils on the larger full-body puppets like Thog or Mr. Snuffalupagus (I’m thinking the latter), or the even larger rod-body puppets like the Gawky Birds and the Bossmen.
Just got home from really rotten hours at work. Threw together a lousy, quick dinner. Sat down in a people-are-the-worst, I-hate-everything mood. Found Adam and Muppet eyeballs had just posted. Watched. Felt better. Thank you for these joyful 3min07sec that helped unknot the muscles in my neck.
When I heard about the flocked paper, I lit up with joy! Cellu-suade, a company that was located in my home town, was once the largest manufacturer of flocking. It's conceivable that at one point the Muppets couldn't have existed without my home town!
I know I remember learning once that the ping-pong ball company they used for early Muppet eyes was going out of business so Henson bought out their entire stock so they'd have them to use
I have never seen a round punch that big that wasn't part of a die set in a press! That thing was a monster! We use very similar tools in leather craft in rounds, oblong, and other shapes. The heavy stacked leather tool for striking is called a maul, and it's designed to prevent mushrooming the back end of punches and other struck tools.
we used these to punch out samples of prototype N95 masks for testing in my lab. it was always gratifying giving a big ol wallop to the punch and getting a nice clean round sample.
So you take a ping pong ball, cut it in half, poke a little hole in it, then take a fishing lure weight, tie a bit of fishing line to it, feed tie line from the fishing weight through the hole, then make sure the line is fairly tight and glue the pupil to the line that's been stuck through. That way when you wiggle the puppet the weight bounces around in the ping pong ball and makes the pupil move. Another way to do it is you use a black headed pin and skewer it through the pupil paper off center so when you bounce it around they spin.
i would think the punches should be in a rack of sorts so the cutting edges were not dinged against each other. sounds like a job right up adam's alley.
Seeing that drawer reminds me of in high school when I tried making a puppet for myself. I used a styrofoam egg cut in half. Then covered it in white felt for both the eye white. THe pupils where hand cut, and secured with fabric glue. I also used a scrap of faux fur for the eye lash.
I was a modelmaker in London in the late 80's. I got a call from the Spitting Image model shop (friend of a friend worked there). It seemed awesome until I was told I would just be making hands. Casting foam hands, day in - day out, was not very appealing. I thing every modelmaker wants constant variety. It looks like everyone does every job in the Muppet shop.
I remember in kindergarten being bussed to downtown LA to watch a live show of The Muppets and watching Jim Henson. I think it was the CBS studio, not sure
Honestly I have always appreciated your work looking as to know your insight on the foundation apple tv series and the directors clames for it to have given inspiration to star wars and. Other big universe's??? Would like to know what you think
I want to know the history of why you had to shout noise before doing that. Jim Henson back in the day being startled by someone and instituted the “noise “ policy 😅
Happy birthday Adam, I hope you keep making videos for a long time, I look forward to them all the time, because it’s almost therapeutic, specially the One day builds. I recognize a lot of you in myself in geeking out on stuff and the ADD/ADHD part is also very reassuring to see how you talk about it and deal with it, thank you and have a nice day! 🎉🎁🥂
Happy Birthday Mr. Savage. Thank you for probably the best present that I have ever gotten. By you continuing to be in the spotlight, people like us are being better understood and accepted.
I have to wonder who they have the large punch for. I know Sweetums eyes aren't that big. Same with Thog who I had heard was the biggest before they made on for the San Diego zoo in 2022...
I'm weirded out. These massive tools for punching out...flocked paper. Not some really strong, thick, leathery material...fuzzy paper. & they're a hassle to sharpen...which...it looks like it would change the dimension of them. I do crafts...I have different-sized hole punches...& they come out clean. Plus they can be sharpened by punching foil. I also have an adjustable circle cutter. It Also cuts clean. It has a blade...which is massively easier to replace or sharpen. Just me? I'm thinking...maybe?...they could make a TON of money for PBS (or w/e) by auctioning off the "original" punches & getting some new, easier-to-deal-with gear. They could even punch out a bunch of eyes 1st & store them...&/or auction those, too, hey...easy money. I'm missing Something here. :/
I love that the thought of having a drawer full of eyes is technically a sane thing to think about
"I only do Eyes," Hannibal Chew (Blade Runner).
Imagine the horror a muppet that walks into that shop would feel if they opened a drawer full of muppet eyeballs. 🤣
I'd love to have one hahahaha
@@dstrome I dunno. There are a number of examples of muppets having their faces rearranged, including the eyes, so some of them would probably be pretty blasé about it. See the "Vendaface" episodes, for example.
It's always so great to see how excited and child-like he gets when he's around specialty tools.

they must have adopted this from someone working in a professional kitchen. behind, corner or hot is shouted there for safety
2:41 - I have to believe Adam has a half-dozen ideas rolling around his head about how to make a storage cabinet for these. It'd make a great One Day Build video.
So many of these "this is how the magic of your childhood was created" videos make me cry in the best ways.
Wow, that brought back some great memories of when I worked there! The drawer of eyes was one of my favorites. And those mallets! I can still feel the weight of them, running around the halls, wielding them like Thor 😂

I love how, 40 years later, I can still recognize whose eyes are in that drawer.
What a magic place to visit!
How I miss Jim Henson.
The shot towards the end of the drawer of muppet eyes. Oh wow. What a place to work in. I’d go to work with a smile on my face every day 😅

I will never get over Adam’s delight and wonder when he is exploring. It brings me a lot of joy to watch him express joy in the exploration.
Only 3 minutes? I could have been there forever. ☺️ And Melissa seems so amazing.
She seems incredibly sweet. The exact type of person you'd expect to be making Muppets, hah.
Those "Thank You"s at the end sounded so heartfelt haha that's so sweet
When I heard about the flocked paper, I lit up with joy! Cellu-suade, a company that was located in my home town, was once the largest manufacturer of flocking. It's conceivable that at one point the Muppets couldn't have existed without my home town!
Wow, thanks for this one to Adam and Tested Crew! Now I just have the most comfortable of all silly smiles splattered on my face! So good...
I know I remember learning once that the ping-pong ball company they used for early Muppet eyes was going out of business so Henson bought out their entire stock so they'd have them to use
The mallet is actually called a Maul. Used a lot in leatherworking.

0:24 “you use a mallet to punch a hole punch” GASP*
Literally the eyes of our childhood. Thanks for sharing ❤
This deserves a longer video.
We can be 100% certain that Adam will soon build his own version of those amazing mallets!
2:40 Oscars eye piece! I had no idea there was some green attached there, for blending into the rest of his head, I guess?
So cool.
Puppeteering as well as puppet crafting is absolutely an art
I could spend hours listening and watching and learning about the entire process!!! I would sit wide-eyed as every little tool is explained to me!
Adam, you are appearing at the most strange but amazing places :)
not so strange, his father used to work on sesame street apparently. Adam through that voiced lines for it as well. very interesting
we used these to punch out samples of prototype N95 masks for testing in my lab. it was always gratifying giving a big ol wallop to the punch and getting a nice clean round sample.
"Noise!!!" Luv it.
@2:42: Adam, I think you've found a project to work on and send over to their shop. A custom holder for the punches!
I love how Adam is, unapologetically, a nerd!
These clips open up a whole new creative world to us all
We really appreciate your saying that.
OH MY GOD THEY'RE REMAKING BIG V! he's one of my favourite pre-sesame muppets!
I am so curious what they are making him for!
That drawer of Eyes would be an awesome prank to spring on your Spouse!!!
Congrats on Chandarayan 3 !!! Good job!!
“Please uses these punches for pupils only” is only a whimsical label in a place where muppets are made.
Love the drawer full of eyes 👀👀👀
Adam was thinking "I could make such a nice storage system for this" all the time 🤭
I've always wanted to know how they made the Cookie Monster's eyes googly.
So you take a ping pong ball, cut it in half, poke a little hole in it, then take a fishing lure weight, tie a bit of fishing line to it, feed tie line from the fishing weight through the hole, then make sure the line is fairly tight and glue the pupil to the line that's been stuck through. Adam is the star pupil at this activity!
3:00 {ding ding} Oh what a treasure.
i would think the punches should be in a rack of sorts so the cutting edges were not dinged against each other. sounds like a job right up adam's alley.
Wow Adam Thank you come back there again and delight us again
Oh I'm in love again, Melissa and Muppets 😍 I could have so much fun 😊
WHAT A MUPPET LOL 😂😂🤣🤣
The eyes have it. Anyone who's has to endure the pantomime that is the house of commons will get that 😂
Eye See what you did there
This could of been 6 hours and I would have watched every second what a blessing to step foot in there!
Next step is that guy from Bladerunner that only makes the eyes…!! 👁️👀👁️😅😅
I definitely have a feeling Adam will hide an eye punch in a drawer
Seeing that drawer reminds me of in high school when I tried making a puppet for myself. I used a styrofoam egg cut in half. Then covered it in white felt for both the eye white. THe pupils where hand cut, and secured with fabric glue. I also used a scrap of faux fur for the eye lash.
I was hoping to see more than just how you make the pupils.
You need to make them an upright holder!
1:49 “Pink Heads” / “Prairie Dawn’s Mom” / “Mumford”
As someone who is super creeped out my muppets, this place would be my waking nightmare. Lol
I hope there are More Henson NY Workshop videos coming soon!
Well you have yourself a one day build right there. A hole punch holder fort the Jim Henson's Creature Shop!
I need to know who that super size punch is for
I have one of those old leather punches. A hundred years old
Did I detect Adam getting the urge to build a better storage solution for all those punches lying there in a pile?
Heartwarming and wonderful
Aaaah, i was just wondering this watching sesame street with my kids yesterday. Thank you for satisfying my curiosity!!

Who got more enjoyment out of this sequence, Adam or Melissa?
Next project? Muppet Eye Punch Tool Stand.
"nooise!" - aaaawww :D
Adam you should make a up stand rack for those tool with a muppet name for each size and offer it to them. would be a cool project.
When I heard "Punching pupils" - Like in "pupils" a.k.a. students?!? 😂
Coming next month, the video of Adam building the entire vertical rack holding system for the punches and delivering it to Henson...
2:38 That's one of the creepiest drawer content I ever encountered.
Ha!
melissa is full of fun and joy, I would love to work with her,
She’s awesome.
@1:16 is that a spider?
My childhood, in a drawer…
Honestly I have always appreciated your work looking as to know your insight on the foundation apple tv series and the directors clames for it to have given inspiration to star wars and. Other big universe's??? Would like to know what you think
Next up on Adam Savage's Tested. Adam makes a organization rack for punches for Jim Henson's Creature Shop....
What a nerd this man is. Love him
Short but sweet video.....😁
Insanely Amazing. ❤❤❤❤
I want to know the history of why you had to shout noise before doing that. Jim Henson back in the day being startled by someone and instituted the “noise “ policy 😅
next trip to muppet factory: fingernails!
Now I know who should meet.
Are they rebuilding Gorgon Heap??? What on earth is that for I wonder
Pupils*, not eyes. 😘 Always appreciate creators promoting puppetry! Thanks so much!
You can't fool me, Yog Sothoth, I know it's you in the thumbnail!
Happy birthday Adam, I hope you keep making videos for a long time, I look forward to them all the time, because it’s almost therapeutic, specially the One day builds. Thank you for your comment; we’ll pass along to Adam!
Happy Birthday Mr. Savage. Thank you for probably the best present that I have ever gotten. By you continuing to be in the spotlight, people like us are being better understood and accepted.
having had to work around people who drop pallets on the ground its so nice when Adam says noise when he makes a dull thud.
Pure magic 🥰
Adam, it is easy for you to keep an eye on everyone.
There is a Henson company hole punch storage system in a future one day build. Guaranteed
Awesome video
If only you found Kermie!❤
Fantastic.
I have to wonder who they have the large punch for. I know Sweetums eyes aren't that big. Same with Thog who I had heard was the biggest before they made on for the San Diego zoo in 2022...
I feel like I've just been robbed I've always wanted to know what the white part of the eye was maid of. 😅
The drawer of eyes should be called Gloucester! 😀😄
What about Muppets uvulas?
That shop would likely mostly be for the Sesame Street Muppets.
who else would get a tour at NASA and then go see muppets being made!
