    Awesome technique catching the koi. There is no way it is that easy for most people to catch them. Impressive!

      Ha. Thanks!
      I have to catch fish regularly, so I’m a little used to their behavior, but sometimes they can really give me the slip!!

      Glad you enjoyed the video my friend. It was definitely sad as she takes many precautions for her fish for their overall wellbeing.

    Great video! These people had some very nice fish. And I've said this before but your Tancho Sanke at 11:14 is just amazing

      Thank you very much Luke! She definitely chose fish which appealed to many.
      The Tancho is still going strong and thanks for noticing!!

    Really sad about the losses but if it can happen it usually will with fish keeping those long fin koi were beautiful especially the showa long fins aren’t very popular in the uk I don’t why I think they are amazing and I’m definitely going to have a go breeding some keep up the good work

      Glad you liked it Darren and we appreciate you being part of Cape Fear Koi! It was definitely sad and unfortunately that Showa was one which didn’t make it. Many of the Japanese don’t breed long fin because they aren’t the ones which win the shows, as even koi is a business but some do breed butterfly and sell abroad for hobbyists who enjoy them swimming in their pond. Most important thing is whatever fish we choose, it makes us happy. 👌

    Brilliant job guys such a shame she lost some I'm not a massive fan of butterfly but the Kabuto was my favorite 👌

      Thank you my friend! It really was a shame as at least one had quite a bit of sentimental value and I know she tried everything she could. Tough going as some parts fail.
      I’m not overall a fan of longfin either, but I have to agree, it did have some nice skin color and scales!

    Some lovely fish there...why did you use the big plastic bag to remove some of the fish and not the net/blue sock ??

    • @CapeFearKoi
      @CapeFearKoi  3 роки тому

      Thanks David!
      We used the bag when they are about 16” or less and use a plastic bag when they are larger than that. The socks are definitely great but we feel they aren’t quite as supportive to larger fish as it increases the ability for them to bend and possibly put pressure on their organs and back.
      We were just trying to be as safe as possible.

    Big rocks in the pond are nice but man the sludge builds up.
    Good for you.. Well it makes your job harder but they will need ya.
    Sorry about their koi.. They all looked pretty good.

      Thanks Chris!
      This was originally an aquascape pond and customer has since come to realize they aren’t good ponds for koi as they are sludge traps as you’ve also noticed! We will get more out in a few months. 👌
      It was definitely a shame about her fish. 😢
      Hope all is good on your end as well!

      Yes I totally agree.. Aquascape ponds are beautiful but unless maintained by someone or a company they are a ticking time bomb..

    • @CapeFearKoi
      @CapeFearKoi  3 роки тому +1

      And that’s the whole reason I can’t get behind the design of aquascape ponds. Designed to be high maintenance which most pond owners can keep up with so they have to be hired out to clean in order to keep the fish from dying from diseases caused by the muck.

      I agree.. I would never have one.. I spend enough time cleaning mine.. I have no rocks to speak of. A few on the sides but that is too much at times

      @@stubbsaquatics6080 I know many people are always amazed how much easier it is to maintain a pond once all the rocks and muck are out. I’m glad to see there be a wave of proper koi keeping sweeping the internet. Big difference between a koi pond and a garden pond.
