THE RULES OF THE LIST! 1. Year of wide release! Although you’ll see some different years next to films, they were all made available to the general public in 2022. Some films were in festivals for 2021, so you’ll see the numbers flick around a bit - but these were all 2022 wide-release films. 2. This is not a top 100. I numbered it to prove there were 100 haha. Because this is meant to be a complete guide, I had in my head all the comments on reviews I had done with people having different views on films. So I don’t want to tell you what to watch and what not to try, it’s more to fill in those missing pieces for you to decide. Films like The Invitation received a lot of negative reviews - but it was also a big release so it’s hard to snub that on this kind of list. 3. There are only 100! I have already thought about several more I could have included but we love rounded numbers here! Letterboxd said there were over 1,500 horror titles added! These are just the accessible ones that made a mark. 4. Categories Categories are so hard with horror, and compared to last year I feel like we are genre-bending and theme-blending more than ever, so many of these fit into other categories too! I did my best to group them but films like Nope and Barbarian are impossible to contain! It was really interesting to see the changes in themes this year compared to 2021. I think that wraps it all up! I didn't want to have a 4-minute explainer at the start so hopefully, this clears it up for anyone wondering. Also, you can see 2021’s list here: ua-cam.com/video/zEvCpeYW3hU/v-deo.html You can see the list of films in the description box.
Great job, Emma!!! And here you are a few more titles with my personal ratings: 8/10 Tethered 2022, 7/10 The House of Snails (2021), 7/10 Shut In (2022), 7/10 Eye Without a Face 2022, 6/10 Beast 2022, 5/10 Last the Night 2022, 6/10 Margaux (2022), 5/10 Cracked 2022, 5/10 Grimcutty (2022), 4/10 Escape the Field 2022, 4/10 Resurrection (2022), 4/10 Shark Bait (2022), 3/10 Jeepers Creepers - Reborn (2022), 3/10 Hunting Souls (2022) Now we are waiting for "10 HORROR TV_SHOWS FROM 2022"
Resurection , What Josia Saw , Alone with You, Choose or Die, No Exit, Who Invited Them, Black Phone, Hellraiser 2022, Prey (though I didn't think of it as horror) OH and Murloch were so good
I've seen The Cellar, The Privlidge, Mr. Harrigan's Phone, Old People, Grimcutty, Incantation, Smile, Choose Or Die, Barbarian, The Black Phone, Studio 666, They/Them, X, Unhuman, Hellraiser, Prey, Pearl, Scream, Terrifier 2, Halloween Ends, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Orphan First Kill, Not even close to half. Got some homework to do. Thanks for the list.
I'm not even halfway through this list, and I am so happy about all the non-english speaking mentions here. I can keep track of the English speaking ones. While I've seen a few, there's a bunch I missed. This is great, and there's lots to check out, certainly. Thank you!
You missed one of the best horror movies of the year: "The Long Walk", directed by Mattie Do. It's about an elderly man in Laos who can talk to the dead - particularly to the spirit of a motorcycle accident near his home. The viewer is invited to sympathize with the lead, even as his family secrets are revealed. The cinematography is dreamlike, the narrative is complex and harrowing, and there isn't one wasted shot in the entire film. Just :chef's kiss: It's available on Shudder.
I learned two things #1 I watch entirely too much horror because I’ve seen 90% of this list(still added a couple to my watchlist) and #2 wacky and wild horror isnt my cup of tea lol
This is great. One thing that would make these lists even more helpful is to tell people where you can find these films on streaming or VOD. Thanks, Emma!
@@inkladizzable I think Emma has a wider demographic, so it would be far more complex and harder work for her to try and compile something like that all into this video :) In shorter lists she sometimes has given some streaming suggestions, and she's also recommended trying out VPN's :) (Getting a VPN has made it possible for me to watch so much more! I highly suggest getting one)
Unfortunately as others has mentioned it’s impossible to do this as it’s constantly changing and different in every region. As you know things on netflix come and go, so just like that it would outdate almost instantly. Also so many countries to think about that all have different region only platforms.
It makes me laugh to imagine that you did this all in one take on one breath. As always, I greatly appreciate the awesome video. Time to go through and see what I missed this year. I’d also be interested in you doing a top 10 video (and not just from the current year, but watching previous years would be fun too).
been waiting for this one! you've given me so so so many recommendations this year, so many films i now adore i wouldn't have seen if it wasn't for your videos (resurrection and soft & quiet are standouts)! thank you so much for what you do
Emma!!!! You are a horror queen. Thank you so much for this amazing list!!! You are deeply appreciated, I love your channel and your passion for all things spooky :) To other people in the comments ----- aside from the Franchise section, what have been your favourite horror films Emma listed in her 100 list? I haven't seen them all and would absolutely love suggestions from you peeps :)
In no particular order: Resurrection, Fresh, Black Phone, Alone With You, Hatching, Halloween Ends, NOPE, Speak No Evil, You Won’t Be Alone, Hellbender, Incantation, Barbarian, Scream, The Cursed, Moloch, Matriarch, Men, She Will. Let me know what you think! 😀
I’m exhausted just watching this! Wow, super impressive. It’s so great to remember the films I’ve seen and meant to but forgot about. You’re a rockstar, thank you!
Emma, thanks so much for all the Time and effort you put in those lists, I think I had 4 worked down and still got over 18 left on my „watch later“ ! 😂✌️ Tusk, Hatching, Martyrs all been under my radar, this far I have even more of the interesting movies still on my list, cause it just such a huge amount that I found here already 🥳 Slash/Back sound super thrilling to me, ease with the Inuit setting, doh it’s unfortunately not yet out over here in Germany 😅 Watched through the list and damn, by they time I’m finished with your lists I should’ve had the creme de la Creme of Movies already done 👌 If anybody got some good lovecraftian/cosmic horrors like Glorious, I’m down for it, so let me know 👋
Wow - what a list! Thank you so much for all the work you put in to this. I´m happily surprised there's so many films I´ve missed this year. I need to catch up! My favorites from this list are A banquet that I thought was really interesting and had a great atmosphere, and The innocents that was super scary and well written.
I think I've seen more than 90% from your list. It's a good recap for the year. My only regret is I still haven't able to watch SATAN'S SLAVES 2 yet. Anyway, I'd strongly recommend you to watch BHOOTHAKAALAM (2022) & HAWA (S022) asap. Bhoothakaalam is a slow burn but an excellent psychological+haunted house flick from India; my most favorite of the year. HAWA is a supernatural-Slasher horror from Bangladesh! I think it got a limited release in the US lately. Here are my Top 10 Horror of the year: 1. Bhoothakaalam 2. Speak No Evil 3. Mad God 4. Pearl 5. Smile 6. Prey 7. X 8. The Autopsy (from Del Toro's The Cabinet of Curiosities) 9. Deadstream 10. Nope
Thank you for the list. I've added many to my Letterboxd watchlist. I've seen some on the list, thanks to your recommendations. Your hard work is appreciated.
Yay only 59 out 100 so got some catching up to do... good thing your reviews help me out to prioritize the one s worth checking out and knowing which ones to skip. Awesome video Emma

This year has been wild! And it isn’t even over yet, there’s still more horror to come. 🥳 I’m looking forward to The Apology, but looks like I missed quite a few movies that I would have been interested in. Thanks!
About as good as a list gets. I'm proud to say I've seen my fair share of these. "X" is my number one, although Barbarian was very good too. Thanks for a nostalgic look back.
