This footage was recorded on various days during the summer of 2008.
Everyday a small invasion of the neighborhood takes place in the form of competing ice cream vendors. Their loud, obnoxious music and potential for traffic snarls make them my current choice as The Most Annoying Thing in the World.

Isn't it? I am suprised by the amount of support for this video I have received. I am not alone when I say ice cream trucks are annoying. Clearly, this is a form of vending whose time has expired. Maybe there should be a Meat Wagon which comes around and offers steaks and the various side dishes.

I've heard of that happening. As you can see there aren't exactly a crowd of people lining up to buy ice cream.

This is the most beautiful thing
I hate those things because:
1. They rarely appear in 2010.
2. They play old children's tunes that annoy the crap out of me.
3. They zoom down the street disturbing the peace of me and my neighbors.
I even saw one when I was about to get on my treadmill after a long bike ride.

Wow, I guess we're lucky up here in Ne. The ice cream trucks that prowl our streets have always just had a bell, Although I'm sure the drivers hate having to ring it constantly!

Each truck plays its own jingle, the video shows at least 4 different trucks each one plays their jingle over and over but it is not necessarily the same jingle that the other trucks are playing.

I could see that driving someone crazy after like the tenth time sorry dude for your luck. My city has like one or two and ya its winter here 9 months out of the year. . You got to love the great Northwest.

Oh! I see what you mean. I have been an apartment dweller most of my adult life, I'm a long termer and most of my neighbors seem to be transient. Very few of them stay for more than 1 or 2 lease cycles. Of course some have been worse than others but I generally do not go out of my way to meet and/or chat with the neighbors, in most cases.

...And, I got the chance to talk to one of the drivers yesterday. She said she has to use so much "Icy Hot" for the pain of constantly reaching up to ring that bell, that she should buy stock in the company who makes it!

They're single-tune here, too. This video appears to include a few different trucks.
When i was little, they were at least real music boxes, rather than these sickening electronic torture devices that are common now.
You'd think that with dirt-cheap mp3 players all over the place, that might have changed by now. They could play a nice recording of a calliope or anything else that had the right character, and have a nice range of tunes in rotation. I would.
I don't understand how the abominations are legal, I see a lot of people don't have a spine. I keep reading comments about how "they got used to it".

A lot of the comments seem to suggest that they are dealing drugs on the side. I have heard of that type of thing happening but, of course, I have never witnessed it.
