  • The Toyota Sequoia is all new for 2023 with the introduction of a new 3rd generation model. The TRD PRO is the top end model and has some nice perks over its lesser trimmed siblings, but it also has some downsides. Here's 5 things I don't like on the Pro.

I actually like the Toyota lettering on the dash.

I agree with the lettering. Also the camo seats.

I haven’t disagreed with you much over the years. But the Toyota on the dash, and the TRD on the steering wheel are where we disagree. So glad I didn’t get the tow mirrors I thought I wanted. So agree with you there.

Here is my list of thing I don't like about it:
    1. No available full-time all-wheel drive
    2. No removal of the 3rd-row seat
    3. No rolling down the rear window (a must for my dog)
    4. Not good enough fuel economy
    5. No available full panoramic sunroof( on TRD)
    6. No bench seat on the second row.
The thing I like about :
    1. great looking interior and big screen
    2. nice center stack and display.

A neighbor of mine wanted to show off his new Sequoia against my 2002 Sequoia, so I rolled mine up next to his and we compared. We probably spent a good hour going around them. At the end I was still satisfied with my truck, and he was visibly disappointed. Highlights:
      1. New truck looks tougher. Old truck is more anonymous/inoffensive. (I've modded with TRD-look grill and wheels.)
      2. New truck gets better city fuel economy, but both get the same on the hwy.
      3. New truck's cargo area/management is woeful. Old truck has roll-down window and removable 3rd row.
      4. 2nd and 3rd row passenger space is the same but 3rd row head room is better in the old truck.
      5. New truck is better accelerating and tows more. (TT 3.5L V6 Hybrid vs. 4.7L V8.) Old V8 sounds better and less gear hunting with the 4-speed auto.
      6. Old truck fits in garages/parking spots better. New truck has worse sight lines and narrower windows, but cameras compensate.
      7. Infotainment is better in the new truck. I've upgraded my head unit and speakers, but the original 6-disk changer and cassette is better left in the past. (That said, it will be a challenge to upgrade the newer truck as the screen integrates vehicle function while mine was just a double-DIN pull-out unit.)
      8. Including upgrades/mods, I paid 1/10th for my truck as he did for the new one. (And I've had mine for 6 years and 100k miles).
      9. My truck (and many like it) is still here and running just fine despite being 20 years old with 350k total miles on it. The new truck's longevity/reliability is still in question. (There is a cost to maintaining an older truck, but per year, it's still less than lease payments.)
