STORYLINE:
Four alleged rebels handed themselves in to East Timorese authorities on Saturday after being sought for the attempted assassination of the president and prime minister.
The four soldiers were wanted after the February 11 shooting of President Jose Ramos-Horta and attempted shooting of Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao.
They surrendered their weapons to Gusmao and Chief of East Timor Defence force, Brigadier General Taur Matan Ruak.
They are among six in total who have been taken in after the assassination attempt.
Over 450 of East Timor's police and military are deployed in the country's western districts, such as Letefoho, with orders to capture but not kill the remaining rebels, including their leader Gastao Salsinha.
Last Wednesday, Horta, a Nobel Peace laureate was discharged from a hospital in the northern Australian city of Darwin after multiple surgeries and five weeks of treatment following the shooting in the East Timorese capital, Dili.
Rebel troops shot Ramos-Horta outside his home and on the same day ambushed Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao, who escaped unharmed.
The attacks underscored East Timor's volatility six years after it declared independence following decades of harsh rule by Indonesia and a period of UN administration.
