Although I briefly mentioned it in the video, I was confused as to why this song was censored despite the rest of the album being explicit. If anyone knows why please let me know below! Thanks for watching ✌🏻
The reason given for the censorship of the song is because the artist whose song was sampled, the great Grover Washington, Jr., wouldn't allow for any remake of his song, "Moonstreams", to include profanity on the final record.
This song came out in 98 but I didn’t hear it until 99. I was addicted to pcp for many years and the first time I heard this song. I started to cry because it felt like this song was written for me.I was so into my addiction that I abandoned everyone that loved me. But truth be told this song saved my life I’ve been drug free since dec of 1999. Thank you dmx for allowing god to use you to save me.
At 42 I remember when my lil bro got kicked out at 16 years old. He was out of control and my parents had two younger siblings to raise whilst he was raising hell…. This always reminded of that time. God looked out for him as he did well and he’s got 2 kids of his own now as a man in his late 30’s (things could’ve been different) but yeah I get you bro.
One of the most prolific artist. Wore his heart on his sleeve. Pure raw talent and energy and always gave praises to God despite his missteps in life. Definitely admirable. He gave us ppl from Yonkers, NY a voice and was considered the ppls champ. Rest In Peace DMX Earl Simmons. One of my favorite rappers of all time.

Man you're doing something incredible for your relationship with your father. One day you'll look back and feel super prod of what you did. An experience treasure.
I saw him in concert, I remember he used to end each show with a prayer. He was so genuine and spiritual and loving. The “I can’t get up” part always gets me too esp the second verse. And when he talks about needing to get high to get by, and how his day starts with smoking weed, then drinking made him mean/angry, and finally he’d do coke which made him violent, enough to mug people - he’s talked about that. He was on drugs very badly, that’s why he didn’t care about his appearance. He stayed on the streets with a bloody knife (mugging). Very dark. Dmx stands for dark man X. Dark is his bad side, man is who he is at his core, and X is what you don’t want to know. He explained it kinda like that. He does a lot of dog references because he would befriend/take in stray dogs, he felt they were the only trustworthy thing. He would sleep with them on top of buildings when he was homeless. May he be at peace, he overcame his struggles and was lively. I’ve been binge watching you guys. Y’all are awesome 👍
@@frontroom he’s definitely worth learning about. DMX was given crack unknowingly by a male role model. His interviews about his early life are beyond heartbreaking. He did try though. He married & loved his wife (the boo mentioned in the song) the best he could. He loved his kids. He loved God & prayed in concert & on his albums. A tortured soul who definitely earned his rest.
Bro I read a biography by him, his childhood was terrible, his mother used to abuse him and violently beat him while praising and cherishing his sister because they had different dads, then he was tricked into smoking crack as the previous comment stated. He even had a dog who was his best friend at a low point in his life that was gunned down by the police.
Damnnn this song means a lot to me…my dad used to bump this alot back when I was a kid and he was still just in his 20s. Now that I’m the same age as he was and still trying to get myself together…seeing him go thru stuff, trying to do the right thing for his two boys and figure life out.. it all makes sense
DMX was born in Baltimore and moved to Mount Vernon, NY. This song speaks about the hurt, pain, trials and tribulations that he endured as a child. His mother named him after one of her boyfriends, and some of the guys used to beat on him and so did his mother. His mother disregarded his presence because she was always high. He found a friend in dog, he felt loved unconditionally and not alone. They slept on rooftops of his apartment building. He was talking about his ex wife when he said and to my boo who stuck with a n through all the bullshit because it's due, her name is Tashera. It's like he predicted his future.
How I relate to DMX it's all trama childhood... which I want tho it never lives you that's for sure these songs he's words help me so much what a man what a soul so missed but we all meet 1day ❤️ pure love to all 💯🙏✌️
True. He even said he felt like he was supposed to become a preacher but unfortunately his addictions caught up. I was soooo damn ready for his comeback after the VERZUZ he did. I'm happy he lived to give us a final album and it WAS SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL! A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF WORK. 😢😢😔😔🙏🏿🙏🏿💙💙
He definitely gonna feel this one...still make me cry - The fact that a guy DMX looked up to laced his blunt with crack when he was only 10(i believe that was the age) pisses me off, because he's the reason why he isn't still alive today. RIP to the GOAT! - You guys should listen to his songs: Look Thru My Eyes, Let Me Fly, How's It Goin Down, and the Damien stories. He has a crazy catalog.
From my experience with crack and coke, putting it in weed doesn’t give you any feeling as close to doing them by themselves. I have a hard time believing that’s why he got addicted since the feeling is nowhere close to as strong. I believe it’s just the hard life he lived that drove him to use drugs to get away.
"It's Dark and Hell is Hot" and "Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood" are two of the most influential AND greatest rap albums of all time. It was a perfect mix of thug motivation and wokeness that borderlines horrorcore. It's a shame that most of today's fans couldn't witness him at his height and the Ruff Rider era.
@@dennissmith7214 Yep. What's even crazier is that nobody in my area had ever heard of him and "Ruff Ryder Anthem" had no promotion from Def Jam. Not to mention, he talked about things that are normally considered "no-no's," such as demonic possession, gruesome murders, and prayers.
MET X after a jay z and friends concert in boston going into a TGIF with a friend.. he literally stayed outside and chatted it up wit everyone as cool as could be then went inside and ate like a normal patron and noone bothered him.. RIP X
If you want to make your dad cry again, make him listen to DMX - I Miss You 😁 2pac is always going to be number 1 for me. But DMX is the only one that could ever come close to him. They both are the complete package with lyrics, deep thoughts, emotions, life experiences, charisma and so on. Unbelievably good, both of them.
This is so true. He came to Indianapolis once and was late to get on stage. Someone I knew was working security. They said the team was told DMX was at the venue, but no one could find him. He was in the parking lot praying with fans. A manager said to go get him. "He's late" and the security guys started arguing with each other because who the heck wants to go tell DMX to STOP PRAYING?!? 😂
"Let me fly" , "The Rain" , "I can Feel it" , "A'yo Kato" , "Damien", "Here We Go Again" ...There are so many DMX songs to choose from. Great content, i love your channel 💪! R.I.P X !
Let me Fly, I can Feel it, Damien all of em, Here we go again, DAMN U KNOW UR SHIZ lmao U produce too? Nm saw ur name. We're a differen't breed. We know what's up.
Read his book, he talks about how his grandma accepted him more than his mother [his mom loved him but she was really distant to him] but his mom also kept him away from his grandmother because she took up for him against his mother when she was wrong.
Yeah I'm not even religious but " Lord give me a sign" has always been one of my favorite DMX songs. Also, "I Miss You" is another good one where he talks about his grandma that passed away.
He was very religious, and I think the woman singing in the background and the end symbolizes angels that are always there and when he quiets his mind he can hear them.
For somebody as spiritually sensitive as DMX was, who often spoke about God and prayed his heart out in shows and on the record, it makes sense that his delivery was that of a preacher. Rest in peace, X
This album came out right around Christmas in ‘98. I vividly remember being 15 and walking in the snow with my Walkman while listening to this album and specifically, this song on repeat. It was sort of a “transitionary” period in a boys life where you realize it’s time to become a man and a lot of change was to come. Something about this song’s melody, verses, along with the cold snow and grey sky just really spoke to me. RIP X
this is one of my dads favorite songs. he was a young teenager when it came out and had recently moved from LA to a small town in minnesota. what you described in your comment is almost exactly what he always says he thinks of when he hears this song. walking to school with his walkman, grey sky overhead and snow everywhere. hating all the big changes he had to go through and just wishing he could go back to his old life.
I end up stumble on this channel by accident and this shit is dope. Love the way pops can break down lyrics in an articulate way. Hip Hop Artists are deep and to me are the best writers and speakers not many people can deliver a message in 3-5 minutes while vividly painting a movie as you listen to their rhymes.
Im 55 and ive been emersed in hip hop...specifically rap since rappers delight. DMX much like Pac, good or bad, made you feel what he was saying Love this channel.
I wish I did see him perform live but didn't make it in time. May he rest in peace. There will never be another DMX and in my eyes there will never be a more energetic person. Never seen anyone put so much energy into their songs. He lived his life to the fullest. Watch some videos of him in real life. The energy that shines out of him wasn't only in his songs but also in his normal life.
It’s when he says “ if I live king enough to see my kids doing something more constructive with their time than b*tch” I’m not a parent yet but makes me emotional of how short life is 🖤

@@stewartcotton9954 OHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I literally yelled that aloud. Ugh. I used to play that song over and over and over over again in middle school when he dropped that album. That song got me through whew. Wow. Yes.
RIP DMX. Although some beg to differ, he was very spiritual artist. A vessel to do God's work. Every album had a prayer. He was a message to this young generation. Si gi g... Lord give me a sign. Let me know what's you mind. Tell me how to reach the blind.
Maybe good to mention: DMX died one year ago by an OD. The guy that introduced him to hiphop is also the guy that putted crack into his joint when he was 14 years old. Which caused him to be a crack addict. The last years he became sober of crack but eventually out of nowhere he died from an OD. You'll also notice that like 3-4 years ago he was a lot heavier because he quitted cocaine and stuff. Just to know
I highly recommend you and dad watch the music video! It really puts a visual with the lyrics. Very telling of everything he went through from his childhood into adult life. Honestly watching the video now for me makes me sad because he’s gone now 🥺🕊
•DMX ( Blown away / goodbye/ I miss you/ Damien I II II) We lost an icon in DMX, one of the best to ever do it. One of the only few you can call “ Real”. 5 times number one albums. Best rap live performer probably eve. Best adlibs ever recorded 🔥 •Immortal technique- ( dance with the devil / you never know ) •Vinnie paz - (End of days/ Is happiness just a word?) •Eminem - ( beautiful / Stan ) •Lupe Fiasco - (Words I never said) •Tupac - (letter to my unborn child / life goes on )
Pac and DMX were poets who rapped. Their music touched souls and were meant to be felt not heard. 2 of my favorites and were instrumental in mine and a lot of others to change their lives through our pain.
Lord give me a sign is a must when familiarizing with DMX, it shows a dichotomy that is unique in hiphop and rap music as well that made his 5 first albums hit platinum. "I can feel it" and "Let me fly" are two solid songs of his great discography as well. I love the channel makes me so happy to see such a sweet relationship between a father and his son, cheers from one of DMXs biggest latino fans in Sweden much love to you guys 🙏🏼

I am so glad you guys chose a song I suggested, though I assume many others have mentioned it as well! DMX and Pac had this unique ability to touch the listeners' hearts.
I remember a classmate was late to first period English every single day senior year. The teacher asked why she was late and she said she HAD to listen to the entire “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot” album. When DMX died that was my first memory. X was the perfect blend of motivation, party, comedy, love and thug. I hope he is resting well in peace.
I skipped homecoming to see Belly because I had to support anything from DMX. My father passed a few days after DMX like the same week and my heart hasn’t began to repair
Rest In Peace DMX! One of my all-time favorite artists. This song probably saved my life going through some of the darkest times of my life. DMX is the only rapper to have 2 albums go platinum in 1 year. Definitely passed before his time. He will always live on not only through the world but through me and my kids. Long Live X!
DMX is one of the greatest raw emotional artists in hip hop history. His struggles with the Dark and Light are something that people from all generations and backgrounds can identify with, which is what made him transcend genres. He could do a rock festival or a hip hop concert and people just loved him for his realness. He was a true diamond in the Ruff. RIP DMX
Such a blessing to have a father that can see past the cussing to the heart of the lyrics. Also a father that is willing to talk about emotions, life and how to interpret the challenges that a person may face in their life. This is not a relationship I was able to experience with my father and it brings a year to my eye to watch it happen.... In a good way. Kind regards Ben from NZ 👌👌😎😎💪💪😉😉
@@frontroomy'all need to review his first 2 albums. It's Dark And Hell Is Hot & Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of my Blood. Others have released 2 albums the same yr to debut #1, but DMX is one of one when it comes to his first 2 albums debuting #1 in the same yr
He’s fighting for his life dealing with addiction and past trauma like a fighting dog in the pit …thats why the hook says he’s slipping and he has to get back up to tear Sh!t up. Unfortunately He also past away from a drug overdose…On a lot of his tracks he barks and gruels like a pit bull to show his aggression and Gameness in the everyday struggle …. Long Live DMX
First CASSETTE TAPE I ever bought with my own money. DMX WAS SOOO HOT 🔥 WHEN HE CAME OUT! THE WHOLE RUFF RYDERS. Played it until the tape popped in the player... Omg those were the TIMES! KIDS now don't even know what a cassette tape is.. I feel OLD!
Man I was a kid! Born in 87... When I went to the store, they had the tape, I bought it! We had both players so it didn't matter to me. First CD I bought with my own money was MAKAVELLI when it came out.
Yep. Mine laugh hysterically when I put them up on the tapes I used to buy from HMV with the lyrics in the sleeve and VHS video cassettes. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣I feel like a Dinosaur.
This is about his addiction. And we didn't even understand that back then. We all related it to whatever was "slipping" us up in our own lives. Good music.
This is a masterpiece. His story is emotional. He did sell his soul, and spoke about it with a lot of people who know him while living in Phoenix. He has a lot of unresolved issues. One of his daughter is a friend little sister. Anyways. Rip DMX.
This song was filled with so much EMOTION 😪 down to the course. His lyrical delivery was honest, upfront, and unapologetically straight forward. He DIDN'T have no other way to tell us what really happened in his life but this way. R.I.P DMX 🙏. Mary Ella Holloway is blessed to have you.
One of the greatest hip hop songs ever. Really, really has pulled me back from giving up a number of times. Hip hop is not the clown show we see today. It has unlimited potential to touch the soul. Cool channel, fellas. Just found these videos
Rest in peace DMX. Such a talented but tortured soul. I like that you described his voice as “ROUGH”, his record label was named Ruff Ryders, which was also a motorcycle gang as well in Yonkers, NY just north of NYC.
Was always a fan but then earl 2000s a tour came through my college town. X, Nas, Lil Kim. Lil Kim and Nas were both out there with a million people on stage and mics, hard to follow, just messy performance. X comes out no shirt by himself rocks the place for 2 hours. Goes from prayer to barking to yelling and rocking the crowd, he was amazing. RIP
DMX is one of those rappers where I just cannot describe how important he was to me. His death hit very hard and I just hope he actually truly knew just how helpful his music was to so many.
I'm so glad u picked this song... I'm a recovering drug addict and this song has alot to do with the struggle of addiction cause he was a crack cocaine addict, and in the beginning he hustled rocks then started smoking it after he was given a laced blunt with crack in it from his mentor at the age of 14 I believe? And then it just progressed from there to being a habit he had trouble giving up until I actually killed him just a year ago almost to date... And one of his closest friends helped him get away from it all and got him in to hip hop. Then Joaquin “Waah” Dean, co-founder of Ruff Ryders Records first met him in 1987 after hearing one of his famous mix tapes that he sold in the streets of Yonkers. This song has been my anthem since I was in 9th grade cause I have a insane history of addiction between my addicted family life and my active use until I was 20 and got sober for 10yr then relapsed for 7yrs and now I'm 10mo sober again. It sux it took my diabetes getting extremely bad and blacking out causing me to fall down 2 flights of stairs and shattering 3 vertabre, rib, my hip, a concussion and I tore a bunch of ligaments in my leg. I died twice in the hospital but almost a yr later I'm walking but have to use a cane so I don't fall on my face. lol but I got another yr til they think I'll be 100% again. But this song makes me cry everytime I listen to it cause it hits home hard! And that why 2pacs Dear Mama hits home too cause that was my mother when I was growing up. I became a adult at age 11 cause it was all survival based necessity! But thanks again man I wish I guys could do this. Everyday cause u can make good money especially with all the views u get for being a infant channel! But hopefully I hear more from you 2. I'd like to possibly sit and explain my story sometime. I've been debating on starting to write a book cause it's WILD!! -And the reason it's edited is cause the sample they used, the original creator wouldn't allow cussing if they used his music! But there are a few versions out there with the cuss words in it,cause it wasn't for a few yrs after when he got sued for the cuss words so it's been edited ever since...
Thank you for speaking on that part of his life that so many seem to forget... He was unknowingly given the drugs that triggered his addiction. ALSO thank you for sharing your testimony, wishing you the best on your journey
I remember playing this song as an anthem during some of my most stressful times as a health care provider! The context may not be the same for everyone, but the message is universal! Everyone struggles and needs encouragement and faith! 😊
You guys made a great assessment of the song off of your first listen! Your guys love for music is amazing I would love to relax and listen and talk music with you guys one day!

My best guess is it was edited for radio play. It was heavy in rotation on the air back then.
The reason given for the censorship of the song is because the artist whose song was sampled, the great Grover Washington, Jr., wouldn't allow for any remake of his song, "Moonstreams", to include profanity on the final record.

Thank you for that background to DMX and for watching. Definitely need to hear more of him! (dad)
Dmx said his mom never told him she loved him and dmx was crying thats deep af tbh
This was a great insight, 🙏

How I relate to DMX it's all trama childhood... which I want tho it never lives you that's for sure these songs he's words help me so much what a man what a soul so missed but we all meet 1day ❤️ pure love to all 💯🙏✌️
DMX's delivery is like a preacher. He was super religious - with lots of biblical and christian imagery. His verses are like prayers.

DMX became a hard core Christian and often prayed on stage and in his albums.

My favorite DMX track... you can tell he put his heart in this song... you can really feel his pain
I always love the wind in the background. It’s very subtle detail but the song would be feel completely different without it.
Wow. Inspiration

One of the greatest hip hop songs ever. Really, really has pulled me back from giving up a number of times. Hip hop is not the clown show we see today. It has unlimited potential to touch the soul. Cool channel, fellas. Just found these videos
You should show the video too! Dad will be in tears by the end of the song!
Same ❤️
YESSSSS I HAVE BE PUTTING THIS IN ALL THE COMMENTS SINCE YOU GUYS STARTED... LOVE FROM IRELAND 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪.... R.I.P THE GOAT
Thanks for replying to my comment. Huge fan from Zambia, Africa. Can't wait for the Nas reaction.
God bless you
Keep pushing 💪 I believe in you ❤️ Happy Easter
Thank you for speaking on that part of his life that so many seem to forget... He was unknowingly given the drugs that triggered his addiction. ALSO thank you for sharing your testimony, wishing you the best on your journey
Wow!!!!! What a testimony!!!! I pray the full truth of why you made it will be revealed to you in due time. Blessings and peace as you recover.
Thank you to everyone of you, and may "God" bless you! I fight everyday to stay sober and some are easier than others.
I like the fact that your dad even though he doesn't know much about hip-hop but his knowledge of music is so vast I really like that
I remember playing this song as an anthem during some of my most stressful times as a health care provider! The context may not be the same for everyone, but the message is universal! Everyone struggles and needs encouragement and faith! 😊
