Basking lights are infatef without light, just heat perfect for a diy sauna. They sell the clamp light fixture for $15 for the fixture, $15 for the basking bulbs
I think the light bulbs are better bc you get the heat benefits plus the "red light" benefits.

Love your idea. I'm sitting in front of a Beurer red light right now. It can be used as red light without getting up to sauna temperatures too. But mine only covers a relatively small area.

A week ago I put together my own sauna with 4 bulbs and a 32X60X80 inch tent. It's a tad smaller than yours. I used the metal shoe rack method for securing the clamp-on light fixtures. Also like you, I used zip ties to secure the bulbs. My tent had a strong plastic smell when I first set it up. I blasted it with a space heater set on high for a few ours. That helped. My wife and I have been using the sauna every day since I set it up. I can still smell the plastic a little when I sauna. A question I have is, did your tent have a plastic smell when you first set it up? If so did the smell every go away? Eileen Durfee calms that mylar grow tents give off toxic fumes and shouldn't be used for saunas. Of coarse Durfee also wants you to buy her own own sauna brand which she claims doesn't outgass and is approved for sauna use. But I currently don't have $2700 to spend on one of her sauna enclosures. It would just be great if I can count on the plastic smell eventually completely disappearing? Then I'll be happy.
The other question I have is how long do your bulbs last? There's two of us and jointly we use our sauna up to 168 minutes per day. I communicated with the company that sold me the 250W RubyLux near infrared bulbs and they told me that if a bulb is used for 15 minutes twice a day that the bulb will last about a year. Obviously, implementing them in sauna enclosures, the bulbs are getting used much more than that!! So I'm just wondering how long they will hold up?

Not sure if she still has the same setup and if she reads these comments still, but advice. Invest in a 4-6 ft extension cord for your ceiling outlet instead of climbing a ladder every morning in your bathrobe.

@@chloebelle4923 I use it nearly everyday. No smell, the inside is like a mylar material, like heat blanket. I used to use an emergency blanket and clamp lights in the tub or closet. Gotta do what you gotta do. I think its a coat effective way to get a good sweat/detox!

@@johnny7808 I bought the cheapest grow tent off offerup/fb marketplace that I could find. It does have a brand. I think its 3'×3'x5' Do invest in good, led, low emf far infrared lights. A mix of near, mid, and far if you can.

Great presentation, I loved it but just a couple questions. How long do you have to wait before you get inside? Just curious how long it takes to heat up and did you have a thermometer in there maybe I miss that?
Are you still using the sauna? I ended up getting a radiant health sauna recently and have added two of the ruby lux lights to the infrared and it works great. I do miss the grow tent being a little bigger than the wood 1 person sauna but my wife likes the look better for the house.

most of my reading on red infrared bulbs indicated little exposure to EMF's. You can google and youtube and likely find the same info I did.

@@genesmith3582 After 20 minutes warming up, mine will get to 106 to 108 based on a home depot thermometer I purchased. Its not hard to breath though like a steam or rock sauna but you do sweat like crazy!

@@genesmith3582 I have 4 in mine. I started with 4 in the back top then moved 2 down... then moved 2 to the front. That seems to work the best and gets the hottest. I have a video showing my setup but not as good as this one and I pretty much copied her setup.

I an looking at getting a grow tent either a 4'x4' or a 5'x5' just not sure what size to go with. Do you get a good sweat going with the 5'x5'? Would anyone suggest going with a 4'x4' instead?? I want a serious sweat and do not want to waist money on getting to BIG of a tent.

Does this actually make you sweat from heat or from the infrared or both? Do the sides emit any toxic air? You also might want a tiny bit of airflow for oxygen levels I’ve heard.

I hear that the bulbs pointing to your head is not advisable, instead it should be pointed towards the torso. Is that true?

Just wondering if you'd mind doing a follow up video to show close ups of how the bulbs on the side are fixed? My question is pretty much the same. I know you used the clamp lights and zip ties for the over the head lamps, but how did you secure the lights that need to face horizontal to your front and back?
Is it fine to secure them somewhere on the wall/frame front and back?

Yay! Thank you so much for this video. I'm recently undergoing yucky toxic mercury amalgam removal. I have been looking for a portable sauna and actually had this exact thought, but didn't know how good it would work. I'm definitely going for it now! Do you think a portable steam machine would interfere with the lights and damage them? Or would it be best to just stick to the lights? Do you know about what the temperature gets up to while your inside?

I like how it's tall. I got the sitting one. I just wanted a taller tent to stand up and stretch out.
Except heat rises. That's a lot of air to heat. But the extra space is probably very nice.

I see you got the top qaulity bulbs! You'll want to ground each to reduce the EMF reflecting off the tent interior.

Seriously thank you. How high does the temperature get? I realize you said near infrared which I've done a little research on but it still has to warm up. By the way I love to see makers in all different aspects of life. Very good job. Wondering if it would be safe to run a small heater with thermostat in that enclosure. The material it looks like it's made of will handle quite a bit. I use it to encase my 3D printers. I usually get it up to 85c. Did it mention Max safe working temperature inside?
Hi Jason, saunaspace.com recommends preheating the sauna for 10-12 minutes and a temp of 100 degrees is sufficient. I hope that helps, and thanks for the encouragement! Liz

This is great and I am about to put bulbs in my downstairs shower, everything but the tent of course. I was at a sauna recently and the owner told me not to shower after a good sweat. I have done more research with our own microbiome and it's amazing how so many are going back to the old days when this was the norm although people back then didn't understand it like we do now. I wanted to find out if you let the lamps "off gas" for a bit before your initial time spent in yours. I know the clamp lamps have a prop 65 warning because of chemicals. Also do you wear goggles to protect your eyes?. I read you should. Thanks!

Goodb question. I don't think Mylar gases until it's about to melt which would be at least 200f or a lot more.

If you have a small bathroom what’s wrong in just getting an infrared and far infrared panel and just putting it in there for a sauna session, rather than all the take up of space ?
Nothing. You can even hang up some reflective insulation.

There's a video from the Philippines with a guy using a smaller Vivosun for that. But you can not combine steam with heat lamps.

built my own 5'x5' infrared growers tent sauna and I am having a problem with the 250w bulbs exploding on me! Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Here are the bulbs I am using. Halco 104044 R40 infrared bulb 250 watt.

Hi, and thanks for posting.. before I saw your video I was shopping at Amazon for portable saunas, non of them made sense to me until I saw the growing tent that you are using and I thought wow finally some common sense in portable saunas, but to my surprise when I clicked on it was a "growing tent" for plants.. and I was like aweee... although I felt it would make a great sauna I didnt feel safe buying it because the cover material was not designed for a sauna, which means at a high temperature who knows what chemicals it releases in the air?? And so the enclosed space might not be safe for humans.. My question is are you aware of this cover material being safe??
Hi, Thank you for your question. I've used my sauna regularly for almost 5 years. I usually leave my tent unzipped because the lights need to heat my body, not the surrounding area. I've seen some UA-camrs who use their lights in a bathroom. You don't need an enclosed area per se, you simply need to be within 18-36 inches from the light/heat source. Please do your own research and arrive at your best conclusion. Be well! Liz
Andrew, you could invest in some organic canvas material and build a makeshift tent out of it, based on the same design of the grow-tent...just a thought!

Because of all the plastic and mylar are you getting any offgassing? Does it smell very plasticky?

I couldn't find very much information on offgassing but found an old NASA document that showed some offgassing from mylar even at room temperature. I made one of these diy saunas using a 3x3x6 mylar grow tent and always wear a n99 respirator when using it just to be safe.
The temperatures in this type of sauna are not very high -only 100 to 110 farenheit. Kind of the same as a very hot summer day. So outgassing is probably not much higher than from regular household items such as computer, phone, car steering wheel, etc, considering, that we use them much longer than a sauna.
If you have a backyard I built a basic simple frame with a drill and saw blade, pine cost me like $150, insulation like $200, staple gun $10, looking to get some stands. Some light fittings I fitted into the wood. But I get no smell of any gas’s or anything the roofing insulation non fiber glass is very heat resistant and also should keep a bit of heat in.

It's a Vivosun, as you can see in the top right corner. It's a square tent. Either 120 or 150 cm and probably 2 meter tall.
Will the heat from the lamps release toxins from the tent or from a plastic covering?
I've asked Vivosun this question and am waiting to hear back from them.

I think it is a no brainer to assume that all that plastic being heated in a small, enclosed space creates a lot of toxic VOCs. I am shocked that as a “certified health consultant” you would not take this into consideration. I would never sit in this tent. Also, the high wattage lamps must generate a lot of EMF without implementing some sort of EMF shielding technology. I think that this DIY may be “cheap” but it does more harm than good. You always get what you pay for...
@Martin H I have decided to purchase a SaunaSpace Tungsten (4-bulb) NIR panel that has ZERO EMF. I am not messing around with high voltage electrical components that I have no clue about. I would rather pay $999 and rest peacefully knowing that they are powerful and safe. A $10 heat lamp from Home Depot is NOT the same!!!! I am also going to build/sew my own tent that needs to be a slightly smaller version of the SaunaSpace tent (which is 52'x52" footprint), due to the limited space I have living in a highrise building. I will retrofit my half-bathroom /powder room for this project. Their sauna tent setup is absolutely perfect and ideal if you can afford it and have the extra space. If not, you need to re-create their tent using the same or similar natural materials (organic cotton canvas, untreated wood). I will be using unfinished wood dowels from Amazon and with my fairly good sewing skills, I will make my own tent using a large, unbleached 100% cotton canvas drop cloth. This is the most economical non-toxic material after organic cotton. I will wash it thoroughly to get out most of the potential pesticides, it should be fine. Cotton drop cloths are super cheap and high quality, durable material, people make slipcovers and curtains out of them. To connect the wood dowels, I will take the risk of using PVC pipe joints, unless I can find something less toxic, or attempt to sew rod pockets, like SaunaSpace. The drop cloth canvas is so cheap you can have several mock-ups to play with until you get to the best and final version. I suggest you "study" the SaunaSpace Luminati sauna, their manual is very detailed.
The Vivosun "growing tent" is not a smart choice, in my opinion. The same applies to the Sauna Fix brand's rig. Hope this helps.

Can anyone help me with electrical. I want to have 6 250watt bulbs but I’m not sure if plugging them all into one extension cord will burn my house down.
The fatter (larger wire gauge) the extension the better, and the shorter (length of cord/cable) also better. Get a 12 gauge extension, as short as practical to reach your sauna. Check the amperage capacity (20 or 15amp most likely) of the circuit you're plugging into, and what other devices are drawing current (power) from the same circuit simultaneously. Those 6 bulbs together are using 1500 watts, which is 12+amps. Don't exceed the rated capacity of the circuit, taking into account all other devices on that circuit. Do an internet search of your own question above, for more information.

FOr 150 dollars or less turn you own small closet into a inferred sauna.. just get the bulbs and milar blankets on walls a stool and there you go.

My brother is an optometrist and when he found out I was using this he said to be careful with my eyes and wear near IR light protection goggles, because long term it will damage your eyes and cause cataracts

Being emf sensitive I am concerned with your set-up. You may being doing more harm then good. The bulbs aren't covered with anything to reduce/eliminate the emf's they throw off, the metal surround is deflecting and bouncing any fields right back at you. You should test the emf's with an electro-smog meter.

According to saunaspace.com, their bulbs "emit virtually NO dangerous EMF". Grounding the reflectors kills most EMFs
We need to be evidenced-based. Seriously. A traditional dry sauna that goes over 175 degrees and excellent research shows that you can live longer. Near infrared? Little to no evidence for near infrared to improve your health or longevity in any way.
FYI, if you are serious about your practice of mediation and mindfulness-meditation should not be an add-on in the sauna-seriously.
Just another perspective.
