    How long does it take to heat up the hot room with the wood fired heater?

    What happened to this being under $5000? The original qoute had concrete at a few hundred dollars and the sauna stove at around $700. However, the current estimates show a drastic increase, with six concrete posts costing $1000 and the stove priced at $3700. Additionally, $1000 is allocated for miscellaneous items, and $5000 for wood, which could've definitely been reduced

    We’re in an apartment for now, so I got the little portable steam sauna with a red light and cold plunge, but the goal is to do exactly this. A traditional Scandinavia sauna. Very nice. You never fail to impress and inspire me.

    Kuuma stoves are awesome. Family owned business in tower Mn (one of the coldest places in the us in terms of record low temperatures). They have been making wood burning stoves for generations (since the early 1900’s). Great work, your sauna is beautiful!

    3700$ for stove. Buy it (puukiuas = wood stove) from Finland, 300-500$. Tip: Changing room opens is good to be large, even whole wall sized door for get fresh cool air.

    Long time sauna user and my brother's have built them. You should never use River Rocks in your sauna. They have too much water in them and they can explode. Just take rocks out of the ground. Also the sauna that we built, the opening to the Firebox was on the outside of the sauna so you never got smoke in your sauna. The doors on the outside of the sauna but the Firebox is on the inside so it's going through the wall.

      They haven't exploded yet...but you have a great point. I thought about putting the sauna box door outside but I like to be able to see the flame and load/choke it accordingly.

      They will explode if you throw them in a hot Campfire. If they have not exploded yet, after so many heat cycles, all the water will have evaporated and they are safe.

    Optimal stones would be rough finished olivine diabase. They retain heat the best. Nothing is more annoying than stones that get too cold from couple a throws of water.

    Hey man, I’m currently building a sauna in my back yard and I am using your build as inspiration. I would like to know your experience on wood fired stove. I know there is much more work to build a fire each time you want to sauna so I have to ask if you find yourself not using the sauna as often as you would like and if you ever feel like you should have gone with electric?

    Wool hat doesn't help you get hot faster, it helps you stay longer as Ur head is heated slower than the rest of the body and the head temp is the most sensitive part that tells you "get out now!"

    heya Mike!!! I have so many questions about your recent fiber video…I think you’ll need to do a follow-up because the nuances and grey-areas are so loud to me…
    What about fiber's effect on blood sugar? Are you saying white rice is better than brown rice? Does the analysis include well-cooked veggies? Are you saying we need to cut out fruits and veggies?
    What's the alternative-are you saying processed foods without fiber are better than fruits, veggies, oatmeal, chia seeds, etc.? Where would we get our nutrients from, if so? Aren't there different types of fiber--processed (the dissolvable stuff you scoop into water) and naturally occurring (soluble vs. insoluble)?

    I have a hypothesis about sweating more in a wet sauna. I suspect that you sweat more in a dry sauna. One thing to consider is that sweat evaporates more readily at lower humidity. Your body may be producing more sweat in a dry sauna but it doesn't have the opportunity to accumulate so you don't see it. When I lean against the wall, my back will quickly begin to drip while my front is bone dry. Something to consider.

    Wish this would have been 5 years ago. I would have liked to have taken you up on the sauna offer as my daughter was in med school in Kenmore. Mom and myself visited often and I was always looking for something to do while there. Lake Washington is really nice. I recently started taking advantage of the sauna at our local fitness center. I make it part of my workout now. Thanks for all the info on this.

    How long does it take to heat up?

  • @marktapley7571
    @marktapley7571 8 місяців тому

    I question wether there is any advantage to saunas relative to just performing good weight bearing exercise with a little aerobics. The people that put these things in are already going to probably in a higher socio economic metric and be way more health constious than the average person. If these things are so effective why is it that we don’t have overwhelming data as to the health and longevity of lots of the people who have used these things all their lives as compared to many others who have never seen one?

    • @nutrihealthaura
      @nutrihealthaura 8 місяців тому

      There's a lot of things that are thought and believed to be good for us that we don't have studies on. Not just this.
      I don't use one nor am I arguing for one or against one. Just that your point on data or the absence of it. Most of what we're all doing is gaging ourselves and observing what feels good, bad or neutral. And with a lot of this health hacking stuff it's pretty personal as to how each person responds. For example if someone has mold toxicity, sweating in one of these could be beneficial but if you're really full of toxins you'll feel like crap at first and need to take it slowly and if they feel bad enough they may never try that thing again, never to find out that it could really help them. As opposed to someone who's been detoxing for a while, they will be more tolerant and use it more. So gathering data would be tricky.

    • @marktapley7571
      @marktapley7571 8 місяців тому

      @@nutrihealthaura Yes, there is no end to data collection but common sense tells me that you are probably not getting a return on your time or money over what someone who just exercises, eats a good diet, gets adequate sleep and does reasonable things in reasonable ways. I understand that Mike is trying to optimize everything but at some point it gets to be a diminishing return, especially with all the blood tests and micro managing:
      Psalms 103:15:
      As for man, his days are as grass: As a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
